Then Machi notes that if he used a lethal venom instead of paralyzing, Uvogin would be dead already. I don't particularly like him, but he's the only one that legit seemed unfair lol.

I feel like Kastro is greatly underappreciated, yes he created a skill that doesn't match his enhancer affinity, but it's still an incredibly powerful Hatsu. It caught Killua, a trained assassin, off guard, and made Hisoka struggle to understand the ability, going as far as sacrificing his limbs and using heavy deception to be able to defeat him. That HAS to count for something

It would likely have been more effective if he had some restrictions in place to boost it. Many nen users have powerful abilities that use affinities far from their natural one but they also have restrictions to keep them balanced.

I think ikalgo being an enhancer is a fantastic choice. His most dangerous ability is his sniping which primarily utilizes his lungs. He needs to compress air in his head as much as possible. The more tension he can withstand the faster the bullet goes. He’s 60% effective with living dead dolls and as such he’s been identified as a fake every single time he’s used the ability. It ties into his character really well. He wants to be seen as a squid but he’s always instantly clocked as an octopus. His personality also matches a lot of enhancers much more imo but that’s hard to argue objectively. He reminds me of gon a lot tho. Many of ikalgo’s bullets are made from his body and hardened into metal: That’s transmutation. The poison that stops blood clotting is also transmutation. The fleas themselves as well as their twitching are probably conjuration but that’s as far as his conjuration goes. Was this convincing? I feel like this is a pretty sound argument.

Kastro and Netero's powers uses the same application of conjuration and manipulation. Kastro tries to brute force it, whereas Netero has a restriction of conjuring and manipulating his statue through prayer. It suits Netero's personality of choosing the hardest path possible

Choosing the hardest path possible is to make the restriction even more powerful. Harder the cost the more aura you get. Plus the real cost is being only in one spot after activation, which is how he manipulates the statue. The prayer is the cost to conjure.

Netero's statue is actually emission, which is closer to his enhancer affinity. it makes no sense to be conjuration since its a creation of his own and not taken after a real object

I don't think so mate. Everyone could play gungi at varying levels of skill so Komugi is enhancing a preexisting ability to extreme levels but nobody can see stuff they aren't looking at but you can see stuff at much farther away with a camera and what can a camera do receive information and send that information to another device like a screen. Also with merman clairvoyance and Wink Blue Palm has that crystal ball thing that I believe to be the screen the thing receiving the data. I think this technique uses emission to receive the visual information but maybe also to imbue aura into a target to gather information in the first place. Basically Komugi enhances what she can already do while Palm is clearly not doing that and giving herself a new ability.

To be honest Ikalgo being an enhancer does make sense if we look at his biological structure as a Chimera Ant Octopus. Firsly changing body shape.. Ikalgo is an octopus and octopi are known to change their body texture, color and shape to camouflage. Here Ikalgo would use Enhancement to push his physiology into extreme shape shifting, such as making guns out of his body. Secondly, possessing other bodies. Octopi also possess the shells of dead animals or even plants by slighly changing their body and fitting into the said shells. So he could enhanc his physiological ability to change shape to such a degree that he can freely fit and use anyone's body. We humans have rigid bodies that cannot change/alter properties like shape and texture, hence we would need Transmutation/Conjuration (or even Manipulation in case of Illumi). But as an Octopus, enhancing his shape shifting ability is to Ikalgo what enhancing physical strength is to any Human Enhancer.

Wing said that Enhancers are strong enough to not even need an ability. Having one is just an add-on at that point. So honestly, if you’re an enhancer, I don’t see why you wouldn’t create an ability around other affinities to add-on to your already insane offensive and defensive capabilities. Also, as an enhancer, you’re blessed with almost perfect placement on the Nen Chart, as none of your worst affinities fall below 60%, which is still a lot. Add a few restrictions here and there and you can make even something like conjuration work very well. All this to say Kastro isn’t necessarily wrong in his choice to use his worst affinities, because his worst is still better than every other affinities worst; rather, he’s wrong because what he chose to conjure was fucking dog shit for something that took an endless amount of work to pull-off. I could see it working if it wasn’t for combat and instead espionage or something, but the fact that something as simple as dirt brought the downfall of his entire scheme is honestly ridiculous.

Very true And it’s because of this people have a common misconception that enhancers are the strongest Nen users or types Physically the strongest but enhancers usually have very simple techniques than can be worked around or countered with non physical force Chrollo said it best: an enhanced like Uvo is so powerful that it’s almost impossible to overpower him Thus the best ways to beat him were a conjuror that can match his raw power with their own item or a Manipulator to simply end the battle once conditions are met

I think the biggest reason why enhancers don’t add extra abilities that involve congoration or manipulation is because 60% is still aura intensive and thus the men that they have to enhance with will be lesser thus it is best to make an ability that matches there type or at least is not aura intensive

I will maintain that Merman Clairvoyance and Wink Blue is likely some strange form of Emission. I think she sends an invisible bit of aura to act as a portal to see through, which is feasible since teleportation in a thing. Whether or not the statue is Conjured and just always maintained is a different story (it could be a condition), but so definitely think it is some sort of emissive ability.

My headcanon is that it's Conjured because Palm went into the Palace without it, and she had a different one randomly in her head as an Ant hybrid. In the Manga we technically do not see her pull it out, it's just a panel of her having it between her hands. It's a stretch but it makes a lot more sense than it being anything else imo.

I think Ikalgo’s enhancement comes from his ability to change his tentacles into guns. Since Enhancement is the change of the ‘body’s’ physical properties, like Ramoot enhancing his feathers into blades or Youpi’ using metamorphosis

think changing body was confirmed to be conjuration ajecent look at the old woman butler for example. ramoot makes his feathers as sharp as blades but not actual blades and youpis transformation seems to be a natural part of his magical beast so hard to say what affinity that is. I think ikalgos enhancement comes from being able to enhance normal things an octopus can do as they are seen to puppet dead bodies in the ocean he enhanced that into an actual hatsu.

9:13 I think the point about Palm is pretty interesting so here are my two cents If you ask me Palm's clairvoyance ability makes a lot of sense and could easily be an application of Manipulation, Emission, or both. The Hatsu including Emission in some way is the most likely since Emission is one of the categories next to Enhancement on the nen chart. There is also a precedent for Manipulation and Emission having Clairvoyant or info gathering abilities. The most obvious example of this we have in the manga is Sayird's Little Eye Hatsu from the manga. It is a Hatsu that makes use of Emission and Manipulation and allows the user to gain control over a small creature and allows him to gain the knowledge of anything the manipulated animal sees or hears. Which is similar to a clairvoyance in that it allows the user to perceive things from a distance. Similarly, Kalluto's Paper Doll Hatsu only makes use of manipulation and allows him here anything said within the vicinity of a person after he makes a paper doll version of said target and attatches a piece of confetti to them. Shalnark's Black Voice, which makes use of manipulation, seemingly allows him to see some sort of video or pov from a person he is manipulating via his phone. Knuckle's Hakoware utilizes emission and manipulation and while its main gimmick is its debt and interest feature it does also allow him to track the general location of anybody that's effected. As far as more Emission related stuff goes there's the "ultrasound" ability Ging used where he releases aura in pulses that allows him to detect living things or potentially abnormalities in the human body through walls and other such physical boundaries and areas. Emission also seems capable of teleportation and making portals, as seen with one of the random pirate boxers at greed island. Allowing things to pass through it. I could easily see someone using emission to create some sort of portal or similar equivalent to watch people through. This could be especially effective if one mixed manipulation with it in order to somehow mark a target. It is always possible that the ability makes use of specialization, like she becomes a specialist while using the Hatsu, but this is extremely unlikely and is literally like 0.0001% because she is an Enhancer. If I had to speculate, I would assume the ability makes use of Emission to allow her to observe things from a distance. With the crystal ball, the blood offering and the fact that she has to physically have seen the person with her own eyes acting as limitations. Interestingly when she becomes a chimera and her new clairvoyance ability, Wink Blue, only allows her to be able to see the last three people she's gazed upon with her right eye, and the oldest target is displaced whenever she looks at someone else. This version of the ability seems more convenient but also with a huge limitation on who she can observe. So, I assume the scrying orb was probably not conjured and was probably a physical object. Although, I guess the possibility that this object is infused with nen in some way to allow for someone else like Palm to use it is not impossible, and it is also possible that the orb is even someone else's hatsu, I find it unlikely sense Wink Blue seems to be some sort of take on the Hatsu and might have taken its place. My personal conclusion is that while Palm's ability is extremely unexplored and in theory could be just about anything I think that it is a nen ability that is totally plausible by making use of what we know about Emission and Manipulation and while mysterious I don't think it is as confusing or nonsensical as a lot of people make it out to be(but my opinion may change if we ever get a confirmation on how it works).

9:39 Ik what the chart says. But personally I’ve always looked at the 0% Specialist capability for Enhances, Emitters and Transmuters as due to rounding. By this I mean, possible, but so rare and enough standard deviations away from average that after rounding it’s easier to simply say zero. Even if we never get clarity on this, I’d put money on it without hesitation.

I think uvo is in his own tier. Below netero and maha and above S. He was able to spit a part of a skull through an enhancers defense. Kurapika was in emperors time and doing no damage to him with his hits. Then said his enhanced fist is slightly stronger than uvos natural physical strength. Because of the kurapika fight he isn’t given enough credit for how powerful he is.

​@@anon2427 kurapika designed the chains with the sole purpose of beating the spiders. It is more a merit for him than a demerit for Uvo. And he still says that the fight with Uvo would be a test because, despite being a absolute beast, his skills were simple and so was his fighting style. I say that as someone who fought before on amateur muay thai. Sometimes even if your opponent is way more athletic than you, if you have the tools and the skills/fight IQ, you can beat pretty much anyone.

About *Ikalgo,* I think his "Enhancement" and Palm's original clairvoyance share an aspect of Enhancement that I don't think a lot of people realize exists: They enhance corpses to use their abilities after death. Palm's crystal ball is actually powered by the statue that she feeds her blood to. This hideous statue is actually called a "mermaid" and is probably the corpse of a magical beast.

I believe Palm's ability relies on emission. If emission can teleport you, I don't see why it couldn't teleport your ability to see. It's also possible this is an emission/enhancement ability, that strengthens your sight and visual processing before transmitting it elsewhere.

Okay, so here's ym headcanon on Palms ability: The mermaid corpse/crystal ball is an artifact that has (weak)clairvoyant abilities, Palm uses her aura to enhance the artifacts abilities, with blood as its condition for activation.

I honestly think Kastro is being undersold here. He went up against Hisoka and gave him a pretty good fight (possibly the worst shape Hisoka has been in until his Chrollo fight). In fact, if he had better mental, or just used his initial advantage to the fullest, he could potentially have killed Hisoka. Like Hisoka was genuinely confused at the start, and if Kastro used this window to just tiger bite fist Hisoka's head instead of toying with his arms, he could have just... won? Yes, his ability is a bit counterproductive to enhancement, but it's a rather nasty trick when unrevealed and even after the reveal, he can still use it as an "enhancement" of sorts by doubling his attack power (two tiger bite fists). He doesn't really need to disguise the clone per se, he just needs to attack simultaneously with it, giving him two angles of offense, which is a weird but potentially effective way to overwhelm opponents.

My head cannon forthe way Palm's Hatsu works is most likely by enhancing the properties of the creature we see, and by feeding it her blood she gives her the information about who to stalk, and when she becomes a chimera ant her DNA got mixed with merman's DNA getting the ability all to her

I will give this to all of the shadow beasts except Leech. His ability is completely useless in a fight and bad outside of one since you can survive it by drinking beer. He was so useless he got both Rabid Dog and Porcupine killed.

As we can see phinx can throw giant pillars like it's nothing without activating his nen. That means without rolling his arm he can one shot any normal person. Now imagine if he rolls it just twice how destructive his punch is. I think its like a trump card move, disengage, roll up couple times, strike the oppenent at the right moment to kill. Would've have been quite usefull in the zoldyck fight. Chrollo had to keep alot of disengagement in that fight. Imagine if he had phinks ability. Zeno couldn't have grabbed him because his punch would kill him instantly. People forget how nen is still a tactical mechanism. Even phinx knows that. His power might look simple but in battle its really versatile to keep your enemy at distance or just one shot them at the right moment

Maybe Merman Clairvoyance is using Enhancement with the restrictions of the Merman Corpse and Crystal Ball to allow Emmission and Manipulation of Aura to far away targets and see those areas. Heavy restrictions since it isn't a typical ability, but definitely makes sense. Basically Enhancing her own Nen use to allow long range useage of other affinities

I think Bill is important for the DC more for research and maybe food purposes. He can be used to study all the developmental stages of a plant and some animals. Also probably helping with farming on any colony they set up on the DC. There are 200 beyond. Ikalgo self-heals to make bullets. He doesn't conjure them. He transforms the tips of his tentacles into bullets and splits them from his body then regenerates his tips. I think he's more Razor/Morel than Kastro in that he dips into every category without skipping Emission&Transmutation. He might only be able to use the ability of controlled bodies from having a lot of aura from enhancement. Kastro's actual Enhancer ability was powerful. His issue is he stunted his potential but he's basically so strong he thought he could get away with an sub-optimal ability. I thought Liam knew/did a video about the proper translation on Netero vs Maha? It just means that they are the only people from their generation who used to scrap who are still around. If Don Chinjao and Garp were the last survivors of the Garp/Roger/WB gen he'd be used to talk about how Garp's age. Palm enhances the item she uses to scout with her blood. Ant form directly feeds it blood/her life-force. Sometimes the simplest explanation is what works best like with Ikalgo instead of always jumping it makes no sense. Like with Knov our mistake was focusing mostly on the Mansion and not the portals to the mansion.

To be fair, kastro had that tiger slash using enhancer ability, but since he lost to hisoka, he tried to use a creative strategy to outsmart or overrun his opponent but requiring manipulation and conjugation using the doppelganger or double techniques while he should have enhanced his enhancer technique to a larger scale line the big bang level of uvo and/or worked on the next affinities transmutation &/or Emission instead of depleting his potential and aura reserves.

6:26 Not heavilly at all. Netero's aplication of manipulation in his ability is very simple. There really isn't a problem in people using nen types they only have 60 or 40% affinity with as long as they keep it simple. Knov was revealed as an emitter but he conjures his empty white rooms. There's no complexity to the rooms, just basic shapes and solid matter, so 40% affinity is fine. Heck, Bisky explicitly told Gon and Killua to train in every category. Kastro was an idiot because he tried to make a living copy of his body and ego (probably one of the hardest things to conjure) with only 60% affinity and when the result sucked, even had to use manipulation to partially control the clone.

I'm pretty sure Togashi's interpretation of an enhancer was also leading to the ability to enhance parts of yourself as well as the properties of yourself into a superior or stronger state. Such as Rammot's enhancement of his feathers to be more like knives, or how Menthoyoupi was shapeshifting his body with extra appendages to attack with, if that wasn't enough for his incredible strength by itself, or how Kumugi's enhancement was used to always win a game of Gungi/Shogi no matter who it is. All affinities in HxH are only really limited to you creativity as the possibilities are endless when you think about how Conjurers at the top levels can create pocket dimensions, or how Leoreo opens up a ripple to punch Ging in the face for being a bad father and he's categorized as an emitter but he's not the only emitter to do so. But creating portals to go to that pocket dimensions involved emissions. Cheetuh is a conjurer thats why he was able to create a pocket dimension and a crossbow and Owl was able to make a blanket that can fit anything. But teleporting people to that location involves emission. Knov is actually a master emitter. Nobunaga said that land mine portals have a limit to 3 since they are powerful. But Knov can create 32 portals showing how good of an emitter he is, his nen mansion although conjured doesn't really have lots of rules since he might not be able to give special attributes to it since he's just an emitter and it may require lots of nen for him to do so, that's why the main nen type that makes his ability deadly is its teleportation aspect which heavily relies on emission.

I have a head cannon about mermaid clairvoyance. It’s not her nen ability (not in her pre ant form). My theory is that she has mermaid in her bloodline which is why knov said “your blood is precious “ and she had to drop her blood into the mouth of that mummified mermaid thing in her crystal ball so I think the ability is tied to her magical beast blood. So Palm has used an an ability which utilized her hair. Enhancement is quite fitting in that regard. She has also been (albeit jokingly) portrayed with strange hair before being turned into a chimera ant. Her clairvoyance ability could be an application of conjuring in combination with enhancement, I guess. It has a lot of restrictions and perquisites, one being her own blood (pre chimera ant) and blood is symbolically often compared to life force, so that may amp up her conjuration of a present vision 🤷🏽 Just an idea. Her chimera ant form restricts herself with sight of one eye, so that might be impactful in regards to nen abilities...

i think the points made by other commenters about Ikalgo's nen abilities are a little aside the point and convoluted. Regardless of biology every other major nen-based body transformation we've seen (bisky, tsubone) have been done through extremely talented and specific uses of transmutation. Being a natural enhancer, wouldn't it be more likely that his transformative abilities are from his neighboring category of transmutation? I would offer that it's MUCH more likely that Togashi's inclusion of Ikalgo on this memo is very intentional and moderately well-thought out. This is the same expo where Togashi revealed his rating system for nen users & abilities, and he was very intentional about who he included on this list. He even went so-far as to deliberately leave Ging in the diagram without indicating his affinity to make a point about his affinity being unknown to us. In the same way he used Kastro & Cheetu to make a point about improper nen application, I think his inclusion of Ikalgo here is to demonstrate that his ability just plain kinda sucks. His distribution is only 2% emission with a 98% lean towards enhancement and its unlikely that he's enhancing the fleadom ability very much. As a chimera ant, Ikalgo is likely to have a high amount of natural aura reserves, and we don't see his emission abilities as being very devastating. All of the chimera ants are relatively unskilled with nen and don't put much thought into their abilities or typing. Ikalgo's rifle using the fleas is actually a pretty big restriction due to the specificity. instead of using this restriction and genuinely applying it to improve his enhancement or emission, Ikalgo just relies on what appears to be a perfectly non-nen pneumatic cannon combined with emission. If he used any of his likely high aura reserves to enhance the ability, he would have devastating power which we just don't see. It's off memory but I can't recall a time when Ikalgo did significant damage akin to something that a similar ability from franklin or even bloster could do. It's possible that the enhancement leaning was shown to show us that Ikalgo COULD have had a more devastating ability but chose not to because he's not a killer. Idk its just very like togashi to make intentional critiques of his character's abilities to add intrigue to the world, but its also very like togashi to just forget shit and be weird so who knows
