Like idk About most people personally but actors passing, band stars, authors, ect. Most often than not the reaction is a generalized: "Oh, that's sad, anyways." Like if togashi passed tomorrow I wouldn't be bawling my eyes out crying since I don't personally know the guy like I would be doing if my mom or sister passed tomorrow. So unfortunately Unless they're personal family or friends I'd say most people just care about his work and would be more sad at the loss of the series moreso than they would at the loss of the Mangaka. With "4" being unlucky in Japanese (being associated with death), I always thought that was Togashi being sly and foreshadowing that the "false" member 4 of the Troupe, Hisoka, signified that ultimately Hisoka will bring death to the Troupe. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that there never was a "4th member" from the beginning because as a young group of friends there probably wasn't anyone that wanted to be "#4" because of the bad luck associated with it. Hisoka's initiation could have been to kill an enemy of the Troupe they actually told him was #4 or they made him the offer that if he killed the person he could fill an empty slot that always existed and the twisted Hisoka (who remember just wanted to join to fight Chrollo) would have chosen #4.

Oddly one of the most mind blowing Hunter x Hunter related facts I came across one day is that the Kanji character for "departure" can be read out loud as "hatsu" :D edit: I had originally heard it from a video breaking down the opening theme from 2011 "Departure" but the more crazy thing is that the first chapter/episode is called "Day of Departure" and we don't get introduced to Nen and thus hatsu until 1.5 or so arcs later.... I love finding seeds that Togashi plants long before they blossom :)

I'd like to add my own addition to the weird changes from the 1999 anime list: You probably remember how it went when Gon tried to take Hisoka's tag during the 4th stage of the Hunter exam. Gon takes his tag,gets poisoned by the guy,Hisoka gives him the tag anyway and then Gon moves on. In the 1999 anime however they decided to dedicate half an episode to showing Gon completely ruined physically and mentally after the failed tag theft. Because of the poison and the hit from Hisoka,he can barely move at all. He has to crawl his way into a hole for shelter,he can't move his limbs so he can literally only eat dirt and he's freezing. Whiile sleeping,he has nightmares about his encounter with Hisoka and how he failed. He laments how he couldn't do anything on his own and even almost gives up. It's so weird that they decided to add that,but I honestly like it.

Here's what I don't get about especially "Member 4" being killed and replaced by Hisoka. Yes, I know the stated "rules" says that anyone can challenge a member to take their place, but that really doesn't make sense with how the Phantom Troupe behaves. They are time and again shown to be fiercely loyal and care about each other. When one of them is killed, they always seek revenge and/or go on a rampage requiem. So, how could this group, formed initially as a group of close young friends, just accept the killer of their friend into the group?

I wanna add something (if anyone reads this, 12 minutes later.) Iceburg: More members of the Troupe are already dead by the time we see Chrollo in 366. First, I think the panal with Chrollo looking sinister and the number on the sign indicates more members of the Troupe were killed off screen. You can see Chrollo has on a different attire from the last time they all met, and, Chrollo has no reason to kill those passengers. Then, theres also the cockroache being stepped on(Hisoka has been hard to get rid of, like a cockroach. Could be symbolic, since, Chrollo is Kurapikas job. The only reason Hisoka would have to be kept alive after round 2 with Chrollo is to have his seemingly inevitable confrontation with Gon.) I dont see any of them making it to the Dark Continent. (Kurapika may die as well, do to his chain ability shortening his life.) But back to what I was saying, I believe the panel with Chrollo by himself implies the Spider has lost more Legs. Its not a bad play, as first of all, I doubt Togashi intends to depict every confrontation between Hisoka and a Spider he kills(unlike Kurapika, Hisoka isnt nearly as important). Its important to understand that Chrollo is alone, in different attire than the last we saw him. And, we know for a fact he was already with Shizuku and Bono. The numbers may be foreshadowing most of the troupe having been killed. Its reasonably assumed Chrollo found out about Kortopi and Shalnark shortly after it happened, so hes had time to process that. In the panel, it seems like something has recently happened. At the very least, Shizuku is dead. Maybe Phinks as well. I hesitate to say Bono because his fortune doesnt mention death, like Shizuku and Phinks. Feitan and Machi also have no mention of death. Neither does Chrollo. Also note how Hisoka is no longer posing as Boku-Illumi(with all of his rude and impolite mannerisms/quirks)

That hisoka note is actually a really cool insight into the way togashi writes the story!! Alot of novel writers talk about "planners" vs "feelers" where planners plot the whole story before writing, alot of "feelers" like to create their characters and just let them do what they would do. I remember the bathing scenes. It made me confuse if kurapika is a girl or not. The 99 anime really did portray kurapika in a very feminine way there's this one scene that i remember where they were hanging around i dunno if its during the boat scene during the storm or was it in the prison tower. But they were sitting in a lounge or some sort of living room. Kurapika was sitting with his legs opened gon looked at him and he shyly closed his legs. Then there's the prison tower scene when they all jumped inside of it and kurapika was clearly holding his poncho like a girl would hold down her skirt he even did a bow legged posture. Yo ! The year when Silva killed a spider is the year when Hisoka join the troupe. The wiki info says he killed the n°8 is only based on the movie, making a fake spider replaced by Hisoka. Im not that sure about the databook : if Killua evolve his Hatsu to emitter maybe he can emit bolts. Nen User = Using Nen = Release aura = Make a Hatsu. You can choose your Hatsu's Type, not your inner one. There is a big difference between inner type and a Hatus's type.

I already knew about Gon's mini boat and Phantom Troupe member #4 (yes, Phantom Rouge ties into despite but is non-canon, but Hisoka is the fake #4 while the real #4 is revealed to be Kalluto during the Greed Island Arc), but I didn't know that the Heaven's Arena/Burj Khalifa inspiration was the other way around or the part about Nen inscription (also the part about Gungi is even more proof for why the Chimera Ant Arc is the greatest arc in HxH and one of the greatest arcs in all of anime)

If you think about it specialists can literally do anything and postmortem nen can make things stronger and possibly real. Chimera ants as conjured nen beasts made real by postmortem nen, hells bells a nenbeast that drives opponents insane... etc, even Ai, maybe it couldnt grant any wish origionally or it had huge restrictions that were evaporated by post mortem nen.

in the movie the divine puppeteer was the troupe member that hisoka replaced (spider 4) but i’m not sure if he was the original spider 4

Nen type: Transmutation Nen ability name: Zetsumei Note: I used several affinities to their limit to make this sword, and conditions to push these nen limits passed their boundaries for a more deadlier ability. My nen affinity is specialization, but I wanted to see if I can correctly make an ability within the boundaries of the structures that are around the 5 (not including specialization) affinities. Nen description: Zetsumei is the name of the conjured ōdachi katana I made. I used transmutation to imbue Zetsumei with the strength of nuclear pasta, the sharpness like a tungsten needle, the most deadliest poison Botulinum toxin, Thallium poisoning that kills when it is absorbed when contact with skin, cyanide for fast reacting poison, quark-gluon plasma to melt through the most toughest things. Conditions: If user doesn’t kill a virgin at the beginning, and end of every month they will die and their soul will be trapped in Zetsumei where their soul will be tormented for eternity that is the condition for the power for imbuing the regular Katana with the elements, the user has 24 hours to complete this condition. In order to activate the first ability demons blood the user has to spread 14% of their fresh blood onto Zetsumei. To activate the second ability requiem chant the user has to experience a near death experience when releasing their blood and chant “messorem messorem adhuc anima mea”. In order for the passive ability to be active The user has to have Zetsumei within 7 feet of their body any further and the user is loses the sword unable to get back and it restores the souls of those who were killed by Zetsumei. Zetsumei’s abilities: demons blood - demons blood is a poison that has no cure and kills instantly when contact with skin or if target is cut by Zetsumei. Requiem chant When the user uses more than 14% and over 40% of their blood on Zetsumei and chant in Latin “ messorem messorem adhuc anima mea”. Passive ability : Soul Eater - this ability traps the souls of the victims within a void space when killed by the sword. Twisted mind: twisted mind is the living katana Zetsumei the inflicts pain onto the user if the user doesn’t fulfill its wishes (that being the death of the innocent/pure) Please give feedback

There's a great theory out there that Pariston was originally sheila (one of the girls from the phantom troupe's flashback who was also the girl kurapika met in chapter 0) and that she was the original 4th member of the phantom troupe, an great video explaining all of the connections. Before I watched it, I did not believe the theory at all, however, after watching and being presented all the facts and clues from the manga that allude to that theory, I think it is more likely than not.
