Saul Williams and Trent Reznor are god among men. I can't believe I haven't seen this cover until now.

both this version and the U2 version are amazing. what i like about this one is that it speaks more to a younger generation. in the midst of a war without end and mistreatment of peoples everywhere, not just abroad but in our own country, it is a ripe time for another artist to take this song and make it anew.

The imagery is spot on. I was homeless and saw shelter workers and health care workers treat homeless people like shit. He gets it that if you find yourself homeless you are supposed to feel tremendous shame and take what ever shit people throw at you Right on Saul I love ya and your music

Crazy that a U2 song which was influenced by the Northern Irish civil rights movement, which in itself was influenced by the Black civil rights movement in the US, was then later covered by Saul, with its message now being about Black poverty in the US.

I wanted to validate my earlier comment about this being the best cover of S.B.S. First of all, it sounds very good. Second, it doesn't seek to mimic, but it reinterprets the original song in a new fashion- as is evident from this video - to represent the struggle of the unrecognized homeless in the land of American prosperity. Third, the video is unexpectedly rich in allusions and visual nuances. It is very reminiscient of The Saint of Fort Washington: Glover and Dillon at their best.

A guy in my course recommended I look up Saul Williams up today. I'm so glad I did. I love his lyrics and this cover version is wonderful, I prefer it to the original. I'm Irish myself so I can relate to the original interpretation of the song but Saul puts so much feeling into his version for another cause. It just really highlights all those poor people's plight. "We eat and drink while tomorrow, they die." And Trent...Trent's just awesome.

unabomba01 It's true, the whole album has a Reznor feel to it because he was the producer of it. When Saul started working with Reznor his songs even had that industrial rock tinge as Nine Inch Nails. (Which Saul has joined them live before.)
