I've been binge watching interviews of Greta all day today and I really love how she always has a reason behind every single detail in her movies. There is never a, "There was no reason, I just wanted to because it looked or sounded cool". There is always some deeper meaning behind every small detail.

I almost feel like that is because she didnt go to film school. I would guess that in film school, you learn all of these different techniques and tricks and theories that future filmmakers then later pull them from a bag of tricks. But for greta, her library is from observing and remembering things she viewed as impactful in that moment. If something was done for without a reason, she wouldnt have picked up on it. At least that is the theory i have in my mind

This world needs more people like these two ladies! Although I'm already grateful we have them both. They are so brilliant and intelligent! The topic of Lady Bird is not very relatable to me, but I can see the value of this movie. I think it's a mistake to judge a movie only by your own impression. There are so many things people don't see at the first sight! The work of the crew, director, actors. Their professionalism and passion. Movies are not always relatable, but they can be fun in very unexpected ways, like High Rise was to me. Just to think how much fun actors had with this movie makes me appreciate it! :) Movie making industry is so fascinating. I applaud Greta Gerwig and Saoirse Ronan for doing what they are passionate about and being good at it. I love the moment when Saoirse was discovering her passion for directing a movie! And I love how genuinely they weren't expecting all those awards. That's the modern formula of success: do what you're passionate about, be good at it and be good to people around you.

you can tell with some of the audience questions that Gerwig just wants to have a conversation with them, rather than be in a sort of pedagogical question-answer situation. she's so genuine and real at all times, and that's something very special in anyone with the amount of recognition and money and praise she was receiving at the time.

I think if Greta learned about my very abusive mother, she’d understand why I view Ladybird’s mom the way I do. I don’t see her as loving, she’s cruel, inward facing and selfish. She’s really only reacting out of her own desires, not what her daughter wants and needs. I wish that Ladybird had kept her name and I don’t think she needs to have a love for her mother because her mother wasn’t loving. Or a love for the place she grew up in. I wonder if Greta’s actual mother was more supportive and created a safe space for her, therefore informing Greta to create these scenes that are so much harsher. I personally have the perspective that if you felt the way Ladybird’s mom really made you feel, you wouldn’t have such a romanticized view of the way she treats her daughter.

Lady bird might look conservative, but I just realized most men there are depressed (the father, the priest), where women are strong (Ladybirds mother, the nun, ladybird, most of her friends). But the men (except the one played by Tim) are touching. A man also wrote the music which is also a masterpiece. Maybe we need more women like those 2. But we do not need wonder women, crossing WWI no man's land... Thanks Greta for Ladybird, a masterpiece.
