There is no need for low skilled labour in South Africa. South Africa has critical skills list and no where I see waiters or any low skilled listed. The migration law is clear about this, so there is no disadvantage for South Africans workers

Let’s be clear about the minimum wages. The Bargaining Council for the Restaurant, Catering, and Allied trades stipulates the hourly minimum wage for waiters, chefs, and managers. In terms of the agreement, the current hourly minimum wage for waiters in the restaurant industry is R28.76 per hour, as at 01-06-24. That’s about R230 a day (8 hours) or R1,150 for a 40 hour week. Comes to a bit less than R5000 monthly, depending on days worked. Tips are optional and would be in addition to this.

Here we have an intelligent, articulate woman working for the Labour Dept. She is concentrating on compliance which is correct in my opinion. The fact that she's dealing with the situation in a compassionate manner seems to be making a lot of people very angry. Most of the comments are about the illegal workers instead of the fat cat restaurant owners who are employing workers illegally. These restaurants are all about maximising profit at the expense of the workers. What about the exploitation of workers? It's the old story of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
