Prepaid customers to Pay R200 surcharge

Gauteng residents using Joburg City Power’s prepaid meters will face a new recurring fee of R200 for network and service charges per month. This charge will apply to all customers except those registered as indigent, earning below R6,000 per month.
General Manager for Tariffs at City Power Frank Hinda gives more details.

This daylight robbery. To have to pay to access every month is going to push the cost of electricity sky high. The same happened with the ANC when they took power. Road construction and maintenance came out of every Rand spent on fuel. Now, you pay at the toll gate but your options of a secondary route often don't exist. Post apartheid City Power never constructed the electrical infrastructure, they inherited it but...they still couldn't make a profit. The former government always made a profit, even on low electricity rates. This is going to put a lot of users in the dark. I suppose Rand Water will be next to rip off the public for rhe same reason. Why not get independant and boycott both and push their management onto the streets!
