I grew up with this song never realising it was a Burt Bacharach song. Now I’ve listened to how beautiful the 60s versions were it’s incredible they did a brilliant job of re-creating it for the 80s. Such a great song

The keyboard here is just amazing, the bells as marker of symbolic spaces, reminding of church bells and therefore marriage, and the video to this song is sheer beauty, too.

I agree fully. There is a little dissonance to it that is so pleasing. It is a high point of this rearrangement.

Listen carefully to the drum fills and the "bells" on the keyboard, plus the "anvil" strikes. They make a complex background to an otherwise well known tune.

On this day in 1983 {May 28th} Naked Eyes performed "Always Something There to Remind Me"* on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at position #12 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, two weeks later it would peak at #8 {for 2 weeks} and it spent twenty weeks on the Top 100... It also reached #8 on the Canadian Nielsen SoundScan Singles Chart... On the same 'Bandstand' show the duo also performed "Fortune and Fame", the song was track four on side two from their U.S. debut album, 'Burning Bridges', the album reached #32 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart... The British duo had three other Top 100 records; "Promises, Promises" {#11 in 1983}, "When the Lights Go Out" {#37 in 1983}, and "(What) In the Name of Love" {#39 in 1984}... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department; four other versions of "Always Something There to Remind Me" have made the Top 100 chart; Lou Johnson {#49 in 1964}, Sandie Shaw {#52 in 1965}, Dionne Warwick {#65 in 1968}, and R.B. Greaves {#27 ion 1970}...

@@danieldougan269 that’s how they did “live” tv in the old days, due to copyright. They’d record another version live for Bandstand or TOTP, or whatever show they were appearing it, then mime to it. Not like the lip-synching many artists have done in concert for the last twenty virtually talentless years.

I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be Well, how can I forget you girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me As shadows fall I pass the small cafe where we would dance at night And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight Well, how can I forget you girl? @AJonthecase Жыл бұрын
Dianne Warwick wasn’t the original artist. It was written Burt Bacharach and the 1st versions was in the 60s. There was another version before Dionne, too. The difference with this version, unlike the other three, is it it far more upbeat. That’s why this is the version that stuck.
@survivrs Жыл бұрын
@@AJonthecase I know she wasn't the first, but it was her version that I HEARD FIRST, so for me, as a young kid back then, she might as well have been the first. I've listened to other versions that were before her, and I don't like them any better than this cover. I have a really soft spot in my heart for Dionne. To see how devastated she was when Karen Carpenter died was almost as hard to watch as it was to hear the news of her death. They were so very close.
