She was not originally Dutch. She was set out to be Russian, but with what Russia has been up to lately, they swiftly switched her to be Dutch a non problematic nationality... Natasha is a Russian stereotypical name, Zima is winter in Russian she's white as snow, it does snow In Amsterdam, but it is not covered in white when it does... I would know I lived there for a few years and I still reside in the Netherlands! :) She's a gorgeous doll though! Also the term from an Amsterdam citizen is Amsterdammer :)

They honestly could have made her any other Slavic nationality. As Natasha is a super common name in Slavic countries, and zima is the word for winter in most of them. Kinda a missed opportunity imho to showcase that Russia is not the only Slavic country in the world.

Thank you for another great, insightful video, Jen! This doll would be perfect for a shironuri makeover imo, she'd work great for that. The doll is beautiful, it's a pity for me that her looks are a bit plain, especially for a doll that won't have color variations, you're totally right about the textures being the best way to get detail across in this case. But again, that may be just me projecting onto wanting these dolls to dip a bit into more alternative fashion lol maybe it's my personal bias. Also, I know you always do this because you're super aware of accessibility, but I still wanted to thank you for being so descriptive because this doll doesn't record super well due to the white + shine combination, and your descriptions are super helpful to complement that. I was so worried that everything was so hard to see, that's why I took longer to get the video out, I wanted to make sure I could show off every bit possible and get B-roll that would help when regular footage wasn't enough. And your hard work is very much appreciated 💓 Sidenote, shironuri is an alternative fashion style that originated in Japan that uses white as a base (also in makeup) and has accents of soft colors, like pastels or flower details, it looks to me like living watercolor almost 😃 It wasn't the idea for this doll, but she'd make a great base for that, I think! Love the review of course and those doll stands are a mess. You have no choice but to glue them down. Shanelle and Natasha which are the two I purchased first, looks great together. The contrast is awesome. Don't know why so many are complaining of the pure white of Natasha or this line period. Shadow High is a grayscale line. They are supposed to look like this in their coloring. Can't wait for the next review, Jen!

I'm very glad that even loving the line you still point out the flaws when they show up. It's unfortunate about her boot, and thankfully the sleeve wasn't too tight to be unusable.

Shes beautiful, but can you imagine if they would've went for a more opalescent theme? Or even just something like a very light lavender in place of gray? I know that's probably too much color for these dolls but man that would've been stunning!

I agree I think It would be cool to have also a pastel colored line (you know more subtle colours but still noticeable) but I would also appreciate more originality in the clothing like something historical or traditional clothing themed even punk or steampunk inspirated would be cool cause now the dolls have really similar styles of clothing and while they are pretty they're to similar to each other in the style(and since they are collector doll they don't need to please really little children so it could be done)

I’m so excited, I just got one of the lol tweens dolls using my birthday money from my grandma! I got Aya Cherry, I wanted her since I seen your review. A few days ago I was window shopping at the toys aisle in Walmart since I didn’t have any money and I saw that they stocked up on many lol dolls, O.M.G, OMG Tweens, and the basic little sisters surprise toys. Once I seen Aya on the aisle I wished I had the 20 dollars for her, and the next day I got a letter in the mail, it was my birthday money, (because my birthday is in 2 days) I was so happy to go and get her.

I wish this all white doll, of the gray scale, had a little black; the way the all black doll has a little white. I don't mind the silver, but I think a little black would accents would make this outfit/doll pop.

Kinda wish they added some darker colors, so that you can see her better. For shanelle, they added some white accents on her with the hair stripe and the gradient dress, so she doesn't get eaten up by the solid color, and they should've done the same for Natahsa.

i believe the eyes are acrylic! i know some doll customizers drill through them and i’d imagine that being pretty difficult with glass. i could totally be wrong about acrylic though

I agree with what others have been saying about the pop of black or a deeper color, as that would add a pop of color and help add some dimension to a mostly white outfit, but I do love this doll. I think that going with pure white to pure black is a really unique and exciting choice, and I enjoy every doll from shadow high thus far for different reasons. I don't know who my favorite from the series is at this point though. I don't collect them or anything-But I might purchase these particular dolls in future-Thank you for reviewing them and sharing more about them Jen! 😊

I adore this doll! the sparkly boots are my favorite but I actually left them in the little box because that kind of texture collects dust so bad and then you can't really clean it with out ruining it, also the little boxes are so cute. lol.

I bought Natasha to turn into a custom, and she looks so much better with a pop of color imo! I've got her in Emi's 1st hoodie and 2nd skirt right now and she looks so much better. Her clothes aren't my style at all so I probably wouldn't have bought her if she weren't for a custom, but I do love her dearly now that she's had a haircut and a wardrobe change

Shadow High is showing no mercy on my damaged eyes. I already threw away one of the combs by accident because bad lighting (+my crappy eyes). I honestly was not going to get the whole line but jeez they are gorgeous and her outfit would look good on some of the other dolls.

They’re eyes aren’t glass. I watched someone customize Shanelle and they had to pop out her eyes in order to change the colour, and yeah, they’re eyes are acrylic :)

I didn’t like the feathers on her dress. I do like her 2nd outfit. I do wish the glittery boots didn’t have yellow glue stains and shed glitter. I struggled with 1 sleeve on my jacket. I dyed my Natasha with pearl grey RIT unfortunately didn’t get grey hair it’s more navy blue luckily I only did the bottom of her hair and I don’t mind it. 🖤🖤🖤👍👍👍

The rest of the collection is various shades of grey for the skin tones, so her being a pale flesh color would not have worked. I can see where your coming from though, especially on the white table and with the lights.

I'm pretty sure the "glass eyes" thing is BS, go take a look at Poppen Atelier's RH customizations, the way she does the eyes would be impossible if they were glass, so definately plastic.. :P
