I have a 2018 M550i. I bought it a little over a year ago for only $45,000 USD. Fully loaded with every option, certified preowned warranty, with 40,000 miles on it. I added some carbon fiber pieces to it, did a resonator delete to give it more sound, & added a JB4 chip for more horsepower. This thing is a beast and I love it !!!

@Franz Fanon Yeah it was. I bought a 2018 BMW M550i, coming off a lease. I bought it mid January 2021. A couple days before the MLK holiday. It had already been sitting on the lot for close to 90 days. So they had just reduced the sticker price b/c no one else bought it during the Christmas or New Years holiday. And on top of all of that, that same week there was a snow/ice storm coming through (which was rare for that area). The car was located in Texas. So the dealership knew they wouldn't be getting a lot of customers stopping by to look at it. It was just the perfect situation.

The m550 has always been criminally underrated. Gotta love a reasonably priced (relatively for what it’s worth) super luxury full size sedan that can smoke Hellcats in real world conditions on the street.

@Franz Fanon tune only M550i pulls 10 second 1/4mile runs. Which is breaking into supercar territory before you run into hypercars with 9seconds... So for what it is and how much it delivers. Pretty sweet

This v8 is garbage....the turbos in the middle of the motor causes all sorts of problems. If you want to replace a $20k engine, anything with a 50 behind the series number is the car for you. If not....get something with the b58 inline 6 it can make as much power and is actually reliable.

@@Mister_Durden here comes the guy that never had one but knows "everything"... I've had 2M550, 2018 and 2021, and never had a problem. Drove 1 to 68,000 miles and this one is at 23k. Not 1 problem. Those issues are a thing of old models so get your facts straight.

I’ve been a satisfied 2021 model year LCI M550i owner since May 2021. The flaps on the upper and lower grill open up when the car is being put through it’s paces. Also, stock it will hit 60th in 3.5s. It’s the best bang per buck highway cruiser available for purchase. I am in love!

@@EB-bk4kv great platform I miss it dearly. (Had to “upgrade” to a soccer-mom mobile) 24’ X5 50e. I went with PHEV variant. Wanted to try semi-electric couldn’t commit fully. I am very happy with current choice. Especially coming out of a 2021 M550 which yielded 16 miles a gallon on average because of City driving. This one sees a gas station once every 2-3 months. My daily commute allows for full electric driving. I had the M550i for 32,000 miles. ABSOLUTELY no issues! 0! Take the plunge you will love yourself for it !

If I ever cave and sell Stelantis my Trackhawk back, this would be the replacement. For a daily, I think this is one of the best daily driven cars around. What I lose in raw power, I’d more than make up for in DD refinement, and reduced mass. I love the M550ix.

The most important thing to consider when choosing between the M550 and the M5 is how are you going to use it? If you want to do track days get an M5, if you want to smoke everything from the stop light buy an M550. I have a 21 with a Racechip tuner and did a 2.6 0-60 which is the same pace as an M5Cs...

About 60 days ago I bought a 2021 BMW M550i xDrive mainly because we bought my wife a 2019 BMW 330i a couple of years ago and I have to say that I don’t remember enjoying a car more than this one. I paid $55,000 for it with 22000 miles and the original price was $86,000. This car will be meticulously taken care during its life with me. I hope BMW continues to make this engine again (at least someday). It’s everything that you said it was Sam. I love the look, the sound, the power and the comfort. It’s my wolf in sheep’s clothing.

@@DadUsed2Skate The 2021 got the newest variation of the N63 along with a power bump from 463 to around 530 hp. I prefer the LCI version to the 2018 but that may also be because I got the dynamic handling package on the 2021 which is a must-have in my opinion. It gets rid of body roll and gives you rear wheel steer which makes it maneuver at slow speeds like a 3 series.

I went with an IS500 but the M550 and E53 were my other choices. I know the BMW is quicker but 0-60 wasn't a top priority. I do love seeing these on the roads though

And a year later we know that they discontinued the Gas powered V8 M550i for an electric I5 M60. You have to buy the M5 now for the gas powered engine making the 2023 M550i last model in the 5 series line up to have a v8.

And the M60 doesn't look as good, and comes with only 256 miles of range, so if you're a typical BMW driver you'll be spending a lot of time at chargers. I'd be looking at a Lucid.

I have a 2021 M550i and I absolutely love it! It may be the best car I have ever owned and I have had many cars, including a number of sports cars. This car is the best all around car with a great balance between performance and comfort. I get about 80% of the performance of an M5 with a lot better, more comfortable suspension for the street. The car has amazing power and also handles pretty well for a big, heavy car. I do have the Dynamic Handling package, which does make the car feel smaller than it actually is. This car is a total highway bomber so really fast and with a resonator delete, it sounds damn good too! The car is a super comfortable place to be for daily driving and when you hit the gas, it just goes! I am very impressed with this BMW and love that this is one of a very few sedans left with a twin-turbo V8.

I'm now a merc man and have a 2010 w212 E63 AMG but years ago I did own an BMW e39 540i and loved it... since the E60 shape 5 series, I went off BMW as I did not like the pulled back wrap around look of the oriental style headlights !... but I have to say I love this G30 M550i ! and would definitely buy it for my next car as I don't like the new Mercedes E63 AMG - It looks like a Hyundai ! compared to this fantastic looking 5 series - The clear winner now is BMW !

540i xdrive is about 370lbs lighter and with M performance exhaust system, half catted down pipe and racechip non run flat tires, mst intake it kills the M550 because you’ll be in about 475hp but being about 370 lbs so. The weight to power ratio will Be higher, reliability, b58 still better, why ? You don’t have twin turbos cooking your valve cover gasket. That’s about $6K repair at the dealership. Food for though.

Stock 540s are a full second behind 0-60. You're blowing smoke on the reliability...there just haven't been issues with the 550. And if I put a couple addons to my '22 M550 I'd be as fast as an M5, but would still get my ass handed to me on the track.

sp tbh the 540i X drive with the B58 is the best BMW value for your money. so you buy a fully loaded 540i for roughly 90k Canadian, now you say you only have a 6 cyl @335hp, well let me say just a few things here. The B58 can be modified for less than 3 grand Canadian and pump out the 650 hp reliably, without touching the transmission. So for 93K all in you get a 540 that has ALL the features of the 550 without the insurance cost and without all the other costs because you ain't buying a 550i for 90K-100k in Canada unless its stolen. a used 2023 M5 with 30k km is going for 125-13K right now. The 540i is a perfect sleeper or beast if you want it to be. Way more reliable than the 8's. lower insurance, lower gas cost yet 100% the car in comparison to the 550 or even the M5. Want the 540 to be higher Hp, easily done as there are lots of guys with 800 hp plus, you can't beat the value of the 540i, I mean stock and its 4.2 to 100 kmh from a dig. even quicker when rolling 50kmh to 140kmh. There isn't a better engine combo than the B58 and ZF's 8 speed anywhere

I'm having a hard time between this and a ZL1 Camaro. I want a car that has a FI V8 that can handle and has space. Some say the M550i can't handle and some say the ZL1 has no space. What would you choose and why?

I’ve owned three 5-series. Not the m550 but have tested it. I have also tested various Camaro. (I was checking out Camaros before I bought my c7 corvette a few year ago… so I’m no brand snob). The two are not remotely comparable in any way. The interior apportionments on the 5 series are LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything in any Camaro (I say this with a lot of love for the Camaro). But they are WAY WAY WAY different cars, in every conceivable way. If you want a camaro you should get one. If you want a 5 series get that. That’s the only way I can describe it.

Bought a slightly used '22 M550 last Nov. with 10k miles on it. It's not a track car, but handles very well. 0.95g on the skidpad from what I've read. Cruises like a dream in Comfort, and is a beast when you put your foot in it in Sport or Sport+ modes. It's way more practical with a real back seat and a large trunk. For me, it's the ultimate sleeper...most people have no idea what they're next to.

@@project_amgif you are buying a used from 2020 M550i may not be much more expensive than M340i after appreciation. M340i alone with the M3/4 hold their values better than 5, 7, 8 and the SUVs.

cars arent built like they used to be. I bought a new E53 wagon, nothing but problems with the new 48 v hybrid system.. 3 failures so far. I think im done with the car. This 550i though has no hybrid, I think I might be in the market for one.

XDrive means there is an electric motor controlling the front wheels while the main combustion engine is on the rear wheels. And the electric motor does provide additional HP.

'21 M550 was the worst car I've ever purchased. It spent 2.5 months of the 19 months of ownership in the shop. Phantom noises in the suspension, mysterious coolant leaks, and the engine is incredibly complicated, so much that the dealer couldn't diagnose the coolant leak because they had no idea where to look. They also practically replaced the entire front suspension with no luck. I loved the way the car drove, and it's definitely a sleeper, but it was the most unreliable car I've ever owned. I'll never buy another BMW as a result.

I think you meant the RS5...I've been in both, and recently got the '22 M550i. For me, the RS5 is a little on the small side, and I'm not a particularly big guy. The M550i is a more comfortable daily IMO.

I had the RS5, S7 and love the handling of Audi. Just got a used M550i… super quick, but I still like the feel of the Audi. I was going to get a RS7… but I’m sticking with BMW for awhile.
