Tanner is the person who most closely mirrors my own thinking on everything web related, he just explains it way better than I do, probably because he's way smarter than me.

Its been a few weeks since we recorded this and I've thought about it every day since. I reaaaaly thing this framework is going to hit for many React devs

This was great! I really like how Tanner sees patterns in processes, tries to simplify on one overarching idea (async data management), and then everything opens up from there and slots in nicely. His thinking is the right balance of ideal architecture and practical architecture.

What an episode, it was amazing ! The fact that his framework Tanstack Start actually is build for CSR first will really make the difference, most enterprise applications are completely private and do not need any kind of serverside rendering or actions, yet in the current state of the react world we have to work with frameworks that enforce us to do backend work even when not needed.
@paragateosloАй бұрын
This exactly! I think this is one of the biggest problem with the web. Using one tool for every job. When you have fast internet, private system and fast machines, you get all cons of next with barely any pros.

I love that people are talking about putting state into primitives like the URL and DOM again. It's a great way to work. Sometimes it's impractical, but there's no reason not to try when it's possible.

@@coherentpanda7115 Yeah. I regret choosing Next at work 3 years ago. Stuck on the pages router without the capacity to migrate. Hosting on Vercel as well. It kills me that I'm actually supporting them even though the money they get paid is not mine 😀

57:17 man’s said “affordable” tv for his basement. “Lg c4 77in” that’s like $2,500 I wouldn’t call that affordable 😂. I was thinking like $300-$500, not $2,500😂
@tannerlinsleyАй бұрын
Mostly referring to affordable within a specific class of features, mainly *large OLED* screens. I definitely wouldn't call any TV in that class "generally affordable" though, you're totally right.

With regards to pushing RSC as the default way for React, I think they’re going to change their mind about it. Just like Deno tried to correct a lot of things with Node.js, they realised that appeals more to greenfield apps, and eventually they need to support existing legacy applications and platforms.
@tannerlinsleyАй бұрын
We can only hope. I'll try my best to support them, but I also believe they're being over prescribed and marketed.

Happy to keep my distance here. Unless it's a clear state management nightmare (like date pickers).... we're building date primitives right now at TanStack.

@tannerlinsleyАй бұрын
Yep, and that's a shame. They have good use cases, but not a silver bullet. Currently being overhyped and marketed to help React and friends push through the technical challenges that lie ahead to get them normalized and shipped.

Literally do people ever stop and wonder maybe Vercel, the company that is selling you compute on the server, might have a vested interest in pushing everything to be server-first?
