The 2005 really packs a punch but you have to live with T-Mount props. I'd probably still go with the F2203.5 but higher kv unless you want that max flight time. There's a 2000kv variant in that now too.

I have now watched this video like 20 times. So impressive! 2 questions. 1: other people building ultra light builds have mentioned that FPV is tricky on really light builds as the camera angle needs to be so crazy like 60+ degrees because the quad just wants to climb, have you found that?? 2: you mentioned a slightly different “freestyle” setup. Any details? What would you change? Or is a follow up vid coming? Thanks gain for the sweet content!
@ScottTomlinson3 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks for the views! Flying this quad is no different to my typical race quads in terms of "floaty feel" Being on the power most of the time probably negates this a little however. I do run high cam angles (~55) on everything so your experience might differ if you fly at say, 15 degrees. Yeah video is coming on the 'freestyle' build. It's similar just a squish design and different antenna mounting basically. Still a bottom mount battery.

How does it do on a track? Can it keep up with more traditional 5 inch race builds?
@ScottTomlinson3 жыл бұрын
It's faster and more agile than my typical race quads. I like the fact there's less momentum in the turns too so it can tighten up corners and spirals for pilots like myself who tend to overshoot features. My concerns are more around durability of the T-Mount props (and the longevity of the actual motor mounting holes etc) It's still a relatively new concept build to me so I can update once I've really hashed it out. I'm quietly confident though.

Can't go wrong with an Explorer. Check out Dave's Rekon ones too. As for cost, less than a typical race build as the motors/AIO is a bit cheaper. I'm in Australia though so prices are a little skewed to give you a number sorry.

Hi Scott, your videos inspired me to build an ultra light 5" LR quad. I understand that low kV motors are more efficient, correct? Is it a good idea to go with ~1500 kV if I will primarily run 4S? What would be the efficiency difference of higher kV motors? I primarily care about the longest flight time and not racing (although having an option to put a 6S for a quick rip would be nice). Do you think 2005 is better for this than 2203.5 you previously tested?

Really nice video! The sticker decals (vinyl I’m guessing) were a nice touch. Yet more proof that a bigger drone and a giant batterie isn’t always the answer for long flight times. That’s probably why my bixler 2 on a 2200 3s gets more flight time than a GoPro carrying 6000 mah setup. (Well I guess there’s a diminishing return between flight time and batterie size because of weight).
@ezrarichardson2793 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if you agree. But that’s just what I’ve observed. Which is why mini drones seem to be better at long flight times in most cases.

Good luck! Also, what I can say - 50gr frame weight is good, and maybe sharkbyte also is less heavy than dji hd?

Very cool! Love the build! I came across this because I am designing a sub 250g 5 inch freestyle quad for my final year engineering project. I just recently got into FPV and love it! As it stands I am considering using a modified TBS Source podracer frame (adding standoffs and top plate by slightly elongating the bottom plate to allow mounting all the components and leave enough room for a GoPro on top; bottom mount battery). Considering using these same motors on 4S at 2000kv. I have just heard/read that the higher kV on such a light 5inch build becomes less ideal for smoother/tighter freestyle control so I'm trying to lower KV as much as possible without loosing too much speed on the top end. Is there any input you might have into this reasoning or any suggestions you might make for motor selection in this case? Thanks!

@itsmeRizzG2 жыл бұрын
@@SirAdrian1st also, note I actually ended up going with smaller motors to drop the AUW but still keeping necessary freestyle performance. AUW with a 530mah HV Lipo comes to 199g. That leaves enough room to add a naked GP or insta360 and even swap out the analogue for a naked DJI vista and still be 250g with the action cam included. I also made optional TPU protector prints for the arms and motors.

@ScottTomlinson3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Dennis! I still really like the GF SL 5125-3. It's my go to for most things. I did race 7 rounds on this quad this past weekend and used the new GF 5130-3 which are also really great, I hit plenty yet only split one prop at the hub. The SL 5125-3 do tend to break a little easier but that may be a good thing on motors with such small shafts? The bi-blade really are cruising specific. I personally have only reached for them a few times. The HQ variants fly good too but as I have multiple UL quads now and they use T-mount and 5mm the versatility of the Gemfan suits my needs. In summary. If I were picking one prop for a 5 inch ultralight it would still be the SL 5125-3 (In yellow haha).
@DennisRiessbeck3 жыл бұрын
@@ScottTomlinson not so sure about the yellow lol, but yeah I'm more of a gemfan guy anyway(running their 3inch and 6inch props).
