The reason forward swept wings were tested and abandoned was structural. The wings would twist with much greater force than aft swept wings. It would require a wing root that would be so heavy it negates any performance advantages.

I agree completely. Canard elevators are a more feasible variation that look cool but bring their own problems technically- but where does it end? Pilots on the belly of the ship and engines thrusting forward? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I get we westerners like to be skeptical of Russian weapons, but one has to agree that they have come up with brilliant designs and remarkable aircraft throughout the years. I find the berkut as one of the most visually pleasing planes in history. If their radars perform as they say they do, then they are truly in a class of their own.

No one with a functional brain denies the Russians have come up with fantastic designs over the years. It’s the quasi expert Johnny come Lately’s who just started following this stuff during the Russo-Ukraine war that insist everything that Russia builds and designs is utter crap. These are the same smooth brains who study something for a month and declare themselves the internet authority on the subject.

For a moment, the opening MIG MFI intro reminded me of the Clint Eastwood MIG-31 Firefox aircraft design. It wasn't swept wing. Oh well. Still waiting for the telepathic flight control (think in Russian!) innovations to make it into USAF inventory (lol). We stole -- borrowed it in 1982, so you'd think we could've reversed engineered it by now after 42 years! BTW, I worked at Grumman Aircraft (1985-1990) where the X-29 was built, tested, and witnessed a test flight. Quite a sight.

Well, the PAC-DC looks SUPER practical and no-nonsense af. Would not be surprised if this becomes a real player at all. Probably not mass-produced though. And don't know why a Su-75 needs a cockpit if it's supposed to be un-manned, I don't think that's its intention, just an improvement on the Su-57.

The Su-47 was also supposed by Sukhoi as Carrier based Navy aircraft. So the S-37 /Su-47 prototype already had folding wings. Well, this first aircraft had only manually folding wings.. But from this to the next step a Su-47 with hydraulically folding wing and an arresting hook it is not a big step.

What many armchair aviation pundits seem to miss.... the SU-57 airframe was signed off, the avionics and it's 6 radars, yes it has 6 radars including one "dock-off" hulking great lump in the nose with a lock on range of Manchester to Glasgow....approx 225miles by road. It had the R37 able to cover that 225miles in under 25 seconds and X-band that it is claimed nullifies stealth. What they did not have is the engine they wanted. The AL-51F1(Izdeliye 30) is claimed by aviation commentators outside of Russia, as a 6th Gen engine. Mach2 Cruising, more power, better climb and higher ceiling with stealth capabilities.

The SU-57 is not a stealth fighter. It has the same RCS as a clean F/A-18F Super Hornet. And the Super Hornet is not a stealth fighter. The SR-71 has a considerably smaller RCS even though it is twice the size of the Felon. BTW, the SR-71 had exposed screws and even a corrugated skin. The lack of S-ducts allows the engine blades to return radar signals. These returns are very significant. The SU-57 does not use RAM coating on the exterior of the aircraft, at all. They decided to use fiberglass in the construction due to cost restraints. This has also caused issues with the rigidity of the airframe. This means it cannot handle high Gs for extended periods and the life of the airframe is degraded considerably. Also the modeling used clean design and does not take into account the exposed rivets. The recessed screws do present an issue as well. The picture shown of the US aircraft panels are of these panels shows the RAM covering them in the first one and the second is without coating presumably during maintenance without the RAM coating. They are not pictures of the F-35 or F-22 in combat configuration when these are covered. That was a very deceptive misrepresentation. The SU-57 is an example of what not to do creating a stealth aircraft. The design is good but the manufacturing and cost cutting provisions keep this plane from being "stealth." The USA is not afraid, at all.

Apparently the Mig 1.44 was a ripped off design. There was a rejected concept for the F-22, I think from McDonald Douglas, which looked like a stealthy version of the Mig 1.44. When I first saw a picture of that concept I thought some military nerd had made a "what if the Mig 1.44 would be stealthy?"-mockup, but then I learned that the picture I saw was actually one of the rejected concepts for the F-22 program.

The problem with the Su47 is, the only plans they could steal from NASA had the wings on backwards.... LoL I wonder how many AWACS Aircraft Russia still has? 😜

@edwardfletcher7790 I think they just re-purposed a few old aircraft and slapped a couple of radars and called it a day. (They're highly likely worse in quality then the proper AWACS Aircraft) A loss is a loss, still a alot of money lost that will never come back. Note: I haven't found any source that they replaced these losses entirely. (These are expensive aircraft)
