@@DarthAwar Out of the 170+ countries in the world france is the last one that should be brought up when comparing military notions. France is known through out it's entire history for Retreats, Surrendering, Retreating some more and taking .50 cal machine guns out of planes and replacing them with .22 caliber pistols (WWII). If you want to talk about the cost of deploying White Flags to all troops then please bring up the french.

its like going to a store, sometimes the thing you buy, like soda, is on a deal for 3/12$ and its like, heck yeah I could get 3 packs for 12 bucks! but, as most stores do when single packs are bought the deal doesn't apply; so if you only got 5 bucks and without the 3/12$ deal each pack cost 5 bucks you are paying more per pack. Same could apply here, couldn't afford to invest so much in the program so because of it the price of each bomber went up rather then being less expensive due to both more business and as he said practice of manufacturing, being provided/guaranteed to the manufacturer
@arthas640
@arthas640 4 жыл бұрын
Government contracting in a general. This is one of the reasons why sometimes the government will sign a contract to buy X number of whatever, so that way it keeps the per unit cost down. Sometimes it backfires and the government gets a bunch of stuff that's not as useful as they thought but they have to keep buying it.

I can't wait to see this beast fly... I expect nothing less then a game changer from Northrop Grumman. I am particularly excited about B-21's active defensive capabilities. @@rajendrarathore1560 OK, I'm gonna be charitable here and presume you didn't quite understand what I was saying. The other presumption would be a lot less friendly. So let me dig a little bit deeper. Stealth is the primary set of technologies that will make the B-21 capable of ingresing and attacking any high value target on the face of the Earth. But beside stealth there are various other systems being developed for B-21 that will give the bomber additional capability to be relevant in 2040s. First would be a highly advanced, open source and upgradable electronic warfare system that will be capable of sniffing out most advanced radars so it can fly around them. Beside evading this EW system will have highly classified offensive capabilities that will enable B-21 to jam, spoof and confuse the enemy's order of battle and insert viruses in them. And last but not least, B-21 will become operational along the next gen weapons like the hypersonic air to air missiles and, afore mentioned, first of its kind, active defense system in the form of a small kinetic missiles capable of taking down SAMs and other hostile a2a missiles. Was that clear enough? Thank you.

thats why i always find it funny when some countries compare their newest weapons to existing American models. The US military invests such a mind boggling amount of money into R&D that by the time they announce something new they're already making plans that will make it outdated and by the time it enters production they're already making plans on something even a generation more advanced. I heard the Chinese comparing their newer fighters to the F-22 even though the US Air Force was still getting the F-35 (a plane so advanced that most experts think it simply doesnt have anything comparable to compete against) into full production, and it hadnt been announced yet but they were already planning on the fighter that would succeed the F-35, a 6th generation fighter.

The B 21 is also expected to be accompanied by 6th generation long range steath fighters (Penetration Counter Air) to escort the B 21s deep into enemy territory. Basically it's just like the P 51 during WWII which was designed to have long range to escort the B 17s all the way to their targets in Germany and back.

The USA should also build a flexible supersonic bomber to replace the B-1B with similar capabilities. The stealth tech included should be somewhat less than on B-21 so that it can be exportable to allies and durable enough to require little to no maintenance in between flights. This could become a new workhorse bomber for extended conflicts with less cost to fly, faster mission completion rate, and faster response time than the maximum stealth B-21. It would be used primarily for conventional weapons but could also back up the B-21 or used by allies for nuclear missions. Ir should be flexible enough to be used at very low or very high altitude. With the reduced stealth but high overall capabilities it could be used as for a forward based deterrent force, as B-52 and B-1B are sometimes used now. B-21 would probably be based further away to maintain more surprise when used and maintain security of stored nuclear weapons. These two bombers could complement each other very well and large numbers of both should be acquired.

Senate armed services committee exists for a reason, it's the congressional oversight against waste, abuse, and fraud. The DOD has no right to deny them any information they ask for. America's BEST WEAPON is it's adherence to it's consitution and rule of law, otherwise it doesn't matter what kind of pretty military toys we have because we won't be any better than the enemy.

5:56 Wrong, the early cancellation at 20 units is why the B-2 costed so much per-unit, not the other way around. It's research/development plus unit cost of production, divided by total units. So, when you spend 20 billion on research and development and decide to cancel at 20 units....you basically tossed 20 billion in the trash. They did the same thing with the F-22. One administration funds it with the investment for a large purchase and the next administration cuts the program early to save a few future bucks, disregarding the past investment....Politics.
