hey man, i own the Godox's AD600, and when i turn the handle, there is a feature to allow me to pull out the handle as i turn. Have you tried to see if you can pull the handle out so that i won't scratch the body of the light? (it should be a spring-loaded feature)

I am also very happy with this light system. The fact that you can work with or without wires is also great when you shoot at a location that has poor supply for power outlets. Thank you for this review my mind is at peace that I purchased this light.

I think what you need is light 🤪 In my last video I use a Godox SL 150 with a huge 48” octobox and the lens at 14f because is a Laowa 24mm macro. For food is insane that lens! I will prepare a new video of drinks sooner :)

I have the SL60W from Godox. They are the non-battery versions, and they are fantastic. They have a really good SRI rating, so really good colour rating. The remote controls makes working with these ones, a lot easier too. Great video btw.

November 2019 I bought one of the SL60W (AC powered) and a Godox pop-up softbox - 38" (80cm) square. The softbox came with a speedlite Bowens bracket, not suitable for the SL60W. I then ordered a Bowens ring by Godox suitable as a go between for the box and the SL60W. A word of advice on the rings; they come in different dimensions of diameter and the size of the locking tabs, affecting security of fit to both the light and the box, even within a brand. e.g the Godox speedlite ring is 10 mm larger diameter than the Godox accessory version. That's a night and day difference in the box about to fall off the mount. So if you can, order those things as a combo. I ended up making some of my own rings on a 3D printer. The SL60W box included that 7" aluminum dish and a few different "shower cap" style diffusers that stretch over that small dish. A common package listed on Amazon. I can't see myself using the shower caps. I keep the box because it packs everything nicely in shaped foam. For shot setups like this episode, 50% power is about all I need. For doing an interview subject from about 6 feet, I estimate 70% and up in an unlit room. I don't notice the fan noise at all. I'd be putting a lapel mic on the subject anyway. I'm very happy with the product to price ratio on both products.

I'm also on the lookout for some constant light which isn't a fortune like so many of the beautiful LED light panels. As I move to video from photography I want to use some of my Lastolite modifiers so I have a familiar light quality and controllability. My cameras for video aren't great at high ISO and for the most part, I don't enjoy cranking the ISO either. I've also looked at the Aputure LED lights, which recently seem to have gone up in price as popular You Tubers recommend them. I've heard that Canon's best ISO for video, regarding dynamic range, is 800 but my 80D never does well much above 400 for video, unless the scene is lighter and the noise is hidden in the bright spots. I want to light video creatively on location, so battery power is going to be a huge help, but I'm not sure these batteries will last long enough. Obviously, I could buy more batteries, but then we get more expensive and moves the choices into a different price bracket. I would imagine I'd be using these at pretty much full power most of the time. Will definitely check these out though. Thanks so much for the honest review. It's really helpful to see how well they work for stills and video. Love the channel and thanks for being an inspiration for creative growth. Cheers JT

I just picked up the Godox SL-60W aka the 5600k and wired (no battery) version this past Friday. From a rough set of test the light performs great. Much better than the light I was using previously. I plan to post some example videos so people can see how it is using it with a MFT camera. What do you think about using those deep parabolic soft boxes for food videos/photography? I was planning on getting a 38” or maybe smaller one.

They do look amazing for everyday use and I like their level of warmth, quite often constant lighting is very cold. As you pointed out you have kept your monos, I think they’ll be needed for all the splash shots etc and I’m not sure how the physics of constant lighting will overcome the advantages of super high speed sync.

I bought one SLB60 and one SL-60. Used for food / drink shoots - however the SLB60 runs out of battery pretty quick even when it's plugged into the mains, it still dies and turns off mid-shoot! Is there a way to have the power running off the mains whilst the battery charges? It's very impractical if it dies mid shoot and needs to be charged - even though its plugged into mains?!

Nice video! But what about freeze something?, I see that you have all time 1/6 - 1/15. Can this light work with 1/500, 1/800. Or higher. For freezing something in food photography. Thank you
@skylerburtphotos
@skylerburtphotos 5 жыл бұрын
it's a constant light and it's not powerful enough to use that high of shutter speed without sacrificing ISO. You would need a light 5 stops brighter. I'm also not sure what you're freezing at that shutter speed. I personally, would get studio strobes at that point.
@archanajha4458
@archanajha4458 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, to freeze actions , 1/250 for canon and 1/200s is enough with good strobe flash light. In those cases , it is not HSS only helps for freezing the fast moving subject, it is the strobe flash which records the subject's movement, with ISO 100 or 200. ( again depending on strobe power settings.).

I am actually considering the Godox ML60 as a supplement for my Godox AD600 (I find the strobe a bit too time consuming since there is a lot of shooting and adjusting). The ML60 is also for bit of video filming. Do you find he SLB60 powerful enough for food photography? And for video? Do you have problems with fan noise? Thanks in advance ;-)

About the adjustment knob thingy at 11:35, i'm pretty sure you can pull that handle away from the body to turn it sort of like a ratchet so it doesn't hit your light. I noticed some of my cheap flash s-brackets with a similar handle do that.

You film it twice, one with the snap and the subject, then you take the subject away or change it, then film the snap again. Then with the two clips, you edit them together at the snap. If you did it good in camera and lined the snap up in both clips, it should look smooth.

At some point I would like to do product shots and food photography I'm a video guy expanding my repertoire of visual offerings . I just have to keep on trying till I get there and then when I'm ready I will invest in a medium format camera like the Fuji GFX cameras, since I can not in no way afford nor justified the purchase of a Hasselblad and lenses. That larger format will really make the tones and tonal range worth it's weight in gold allowing a better end result and I can demand higher prices from clients when they see the difference. I am of course getting way ahead of myself here but that is the direction that I am setting for.

I have the SLB60W versions. I had to mod the fan due to noise being picked up on my videos. Other than that very good lights for the money.

Difference between SL-60 / SLB60? Can we use this light for food prep. videos?

I got a question, I want to buy this light for food photography, which temperature light is better and why? Does the 3000K is better to pop up the colors straight out of camera?

I would say stick to daylight 5600K unless your shooting video with other tungsten lights in the room like I am (which is why I ordered the 3000K) If no other lights are present (especially natural light) then 3000k is fine, since you can then white balance either in post or in camera.

Are you looking to mix your new lights with other light sources with different colour balances such as window light or flash?

No they do make daylight balanced versions for that, but I got the tungsten to match my studio ambient light

I believe SL stands for Strobe Light 💡.. or I could be wrong. SLB= Strobe Light Battery 🔋

Do you thin you would move over to constant lighting over studio strobes or keep photographing with strobes? Thanks for all the awesome tutorials and videos you keep posting.

I use strobes because I do stuff that requires high speed flash
