@@R.I.D.E Because 90 percent of KZbinrs would want to fanboy up gear from larger suppliers like Next Level Racing so they stay on the list to get more free gear to review in the future. Basically KZbin works like this, there is an unwritten rule from companies that you provide positive reviews or you get blacklisted and don't get any more gear from them. So if your a KZbinr and don't get gear to review your content options are less and you make less money so you shill whatever products are provided. This is good for your channel and good for the companies just bad for customers. integrity is rare on YT and it is always refreshing when you see it!!!

Exactly! I’ve watched 6 review videos for the HF8. Karl was - next to Dave Suzuki - the only one pointing out the weak spots like crappy NLR software with big latency (SimHub does it way better…) and also that motors having a different feel than exciters or transducers.

Karl, well done review, and the ONLY review I could find that critically reviewed the software AND compared it to the SRS seat. Every other reviewer just gushes over "what a game changer" the NLR seat is, without comparing it to anything.

Been trying to get on with this all day and it takes a good while to get the settings to make sense, otherwise it's jibberish noise. Basically bringing things down to 30%, turning 5/8 settings off and running with just ground effects and suspension with a little bit of engine rpm. All of these seperated into different zones to avoid confusion and conflicting information - which means that the ground effect I have actually set to just the lower back with suspension on the 4 seats and engine rpm top of back. This is working nicely for me. The suspension gives a good indication of tyre slipping and the ground effect is good for curbs, grass etc. The engine rpm rams up at speed down straights giving a sense of vehicle vibration but cuts off when slowing down which is good. Wasn't sure if it was going to work but glad to say it's being strapped in for regular use now. Pretty comfortable and very quiet. Good little addition to a racing game for a casual. Haven't experienced the buttkicking but yeah the motors are pretty dumb on the hf8 giving a blunt feedback. Still immersive though. No doubt that the transducers are more enjoyable - but noisy and pricey.

IMO a bummer the G9 is running double-4K instead of 1440p. No way you notice an improvement switching from 1440p to 2160p in games with this height, but you certainly feel the difference in fps even with a 4090.
@KarlGosling

It's too much money for me to buy in for review mate sorry, plus I'm not a fan of "letterbox" racing, a larger 21:9 or 16:9 display gives a better experience IMO and no distortion from the curve which cannot be adjusted for in mot sim titles.
@Leynad778
@Leynad778 Жыл бұрын
@@KarlGosling Again: The distortion you get on a flat-panel since your eyes and vision is not flat at all. On a curved display the distance to your eyes is more even between center and edges in more optimal angle, which is obviously better. I would never switch to flat-screens ever and bought a G9 recently to get R1000 instead of R1200. Flatscreens are just okay if they are further away from you like a TV is usually. For sim-racing they will never be as good as curved display.
@Mr_Latte_UK
@Mr_Latte_UK Жыл бұрын
@@KarlGosling Err but dont you have letterbox gaming with triple screens 48:9. One difference is the PPI for large sized (even 4K) TVs is not that high. With the 2023 Neo G9 you may get a sharper image as the pixels are much smaller and the G9 is going to be similar to dual G8 (4K) offering a nice size and increased resolution over the already impressive 1440p varations of the previous G9 model. With the 8K res of the new G9 it could in theroy also display triple 1440p resolution on its single 57" screen with 240Hz.

Appreciate your honesty mate. I am a console racer with ps5. Yours is the 2nd review I have seen of this product. Both reviews suggested it didn't work well with the 3.5mm audio connection. That said, I was kinda hopeful it would run with one of the spare ps5 usb ports. It is good to see someone making this type of product available to console users but I havent found a review specifically for its use on console. I'm inclined to wait and see what the general opinion of it is in 6 or 12 months time. Thanks.

Hi there, thank you for the feedback. Note that while using the audiojack that all motors will be working simutaniously. The only output that is received is audio from the console. The HFS Software uses telemetry data to provide feedback to the 8 motors on the Gaming Pad. There is a limitation on console where we cannot access the telemetry data. If you are looking at control and adjusting each motors individually, we recommend using the the HF8 Gaming Pad with PC while using the HFS software, allowing you to indivdually control the motors and the effect that you feel.

something which surprised me is that many people seem to not know about the SRS Shake kit. Great you made the explanation what is the difference between NLR and SRS products. I have purchased SRS shake kit 2 years ago after watching one of your videos and using your discount code (thanks). Very happy with it but I am also pleased to see some more competition in this area. Visually the NLR product looks quite decent, the box also adds to the professional experience. That for instance was lacking in my SRS products when i received them 2 years ago (maybe now it has changed) - it came in a brown cardbox packed in a bubblewrap. Also the intellibox for windkit looked a bit cheap and fragile. Can't say I was impressed with the presentation. However, apart from that I can't stress how happy I am with both shake kit and the wind kit. For me it is important to try to do as much as possible to crank up the immersion level and such small product is yet very powerful immersion factor. I had a problem with the usb cable some time ago and had to do few races without the shake kit and I really missed that feeling.
@KarlGosling
@KarlGosling Жыл бұрын
I think they just don't have the advertising budget being a small two or three man company and yes the presentation of SRS stuff is indeed just basic packaging and I believe back then they were still 3D printing the Intellibox, so sometimes this shows through... specially when comparing to NLR who are fairly big in the sim racing market. But their products and software are excellent from a functionality and performance point of view!

Hi Karl. I have just purchased an HF8. I'm here in the UK so had to buy from amazon(as was out of stock everywhere else) this came from the US. Got it today....I do have an Xbox series X. I know you have a PC set up(wish I did) and that your review was based on PC....so just to let you know.....MAN I'M GUTTED BEYOND BELIEF!!!! it really isn't worth the money,on console anyway. Work really has to be done with this pad. I expected so much from this and I was really looking forward to experiencing extra immersion. Even with the dial turned fully up it is just a small vibration and not really a feedback. I'm sending it straight back but hoping that some update will come eventually for console. This is really just a little addition to your review as you don't have a console. Don't waste your money people...I'm sure it's great though through USB on PC. Great work Karl. Much love.

Although the software in dirt 2 was an issue. The fact they listened to you & removed it to I assume rectify the problem is a positive move in the right direction. I think its like going from a DD1 ect back to a belt drive you wouldn't do it but the other way around makes sense & if you've never had tactile transducers you wouldn't know the difference. As they say in their promo its an entry level affordable alternative. love your work & great to see you back creating content Stay safe & well

One of the main points to discuss about an item like this is how it feels after sitting on it for an hour or two straight. I have another companies exact same thing collecting dust in the closet as I use tactile transducers now. The main issue with these types of items is the pressure points of the motors under your legs cause discomfort from sitting on them after a while. They may have remedied that with this possibly if the motor is encased in a full plastic cover the whole shape of each pad, but that’s highly unlikely. Karly you really should try DIY ambient lighting on your rig, it’s a game changer. Simhub has an option in it and the Prismatik software is another great option. I have a couple clips on my channel if you want to see it in action.

Hello, again an honest review👌. But I still ordered one for my Ps5 and series x. I have an audio splitter and the buttkicker gamer 2. I can choose higher frequencies on my buttkicker. And cut off the really low frequencies with my receiver. Combined with the HF8 that reacts to lower frequencies(my assumption) ... Hoping it will be a good combo. I can't find the exact low frequencies when the HF8 will start reacting. I can choose to use my buttkicker for lower frequencies if the HF8 reacts more to higher frequencies. It's still stereo output... So the left and right sound output will make some kind of difference in feeling. Driving over left and right curbs will feel different I hope. Even if it's subtile. If I don't like it I send it back. Most racing games have sound options... So I can adjust it a bit how it will react. Also depending on the game. About haptic feedback... Less is more.. I realize that. I don't want my sim setup rumble all the time. Thats useless.. I want more subtile feedback reacting to different frequencies so I know what's going on with my car only by using the sound output. I sold my t300rs and bought the Fanatec GT DD pro(8nm) for my Ps5 and series x. That will give more immersion also. The psvr2 is pre-ordered for GT7. The headset has an rumble device build in. All this combined.. That wil be more immersive for sure. Not as on pc. I realize that. But I'm using the buttkicker 2 for 5 months now and I'm very pleased with it. Thanks for all the informational videos. Really helpfull. Grtz from belgium.

Hello mate! Glad to hear your able to run the buttkicker gamer 2 with your ps5, I was wondering how/what audiosplitter you have used to connect it to the ps5? I’ve read that I might need a hdmi audio splitter, was it as simple as plug and play? Any more information will be greatly appreciated! (Sorry, I know almost nothing about audio!)

@@Tk-Howes hello, my optical TV output converted to analog out and connected it to my (amplifier) buttkicker gamer 2. And yes, it's plug and play. I ordered the hf 8 but got a message it's only available from may. So I cancelled it. Don't want it anymore . I did bought the next level racing DD wheelstand with the gtseat add on(full cockpit). I received the Fanatec DD pro 8nm and clubsport handbrake. Much better. The hf8 is not a necessity. My new setup is ideal for rally games. Pré ordered the psvr2. That's enough money😬. No vacation for me this summer. But yeah, vacation is only one week. This rig setup with the DD pro and psvr 2 for GT 7 will last me for years. Still expensive but an easy choice instead of going on vacation. Priorities 😉. Expecting a lot from gt7 on the psvr2. All the cars, detailed interiors, that will be impressive. It's the full game, 4k,120 Frames, hdr and eye tracking rendering. I could have bought a small second used car with this amount of money. But I don't use my car a lot. I have this for racing and will use my bicycle a lot more. I don't care.

@@Tk-Howes the optical output is from my TV, converted to analog. It's not possible connecting it to my ps5 directly. The advantage... I can use it also for my series x. And the DD pro is compatible with the series x. Just need a extra wheel. Hoping Forza motorsports will be more Sim this time. But I'm not expecting a lot. Great visuals.. But not one word about wheel support. Sounds a bit worrying. FM compared to gt is a big difference for using it with a sim setup. Don't know why . We have forza horizon as an arcade game. FM should be more Sim. Just like gt7. That's very close to a sim game. I have assetto corsa also. But gt 7 is so much more. They call ACC a real sim. But honestly... Gt7 is almost a pure sim also. Not such a big difference compared to assetto corsa. That said. I'm sure acc and F1 will get vr support in the future. It's already happening on pc. Ps5 will follow.

It's a nice idea. But, like you say, vibration motors don't seem the right tool for this job. With sim-racing stuff, there's stuff that makes sense on a budget, and stuff that makes sense if you can afford extra, and then there's stuff in-between which might seem like a good deal but is gonna get replaced and was never really worth the money. :D Something I have learned from experience. (That said, affordable stuff is getting much better now, especially the newer direct-drive wheelbases! So it's not a hard rule.)

Hi Karl, thanks for another unbiased and well done video. I just spotted this device few days ago and would like to try it, considering also the black Friday. It's currently at 190£ and I've never used full tactile setups, and from what I gathered the transducers are quite loud, and living in a flat it's not ideal (also way more expensive). I've the full version of SimHub and from what I've seen it works great paired with it. Due to space also a full rig setup with motion platform is not an option at the moment. So I guess this would a good kit to experience more immersion and receive feedback from the car whilst driving. I'd use it with AC, ACC, DR 1 and 2 and will try it also with EA WRC even though the latter feels somewhat simplistic when compared to better sims like AC and ACC. Thanks!

I'm so jealous about PC sim racers for ability to add tactile transducers/haptics. We need this kind of stuff for console players. This one would be a choice for console users. Vibration motors are not bad and price too. Totally agree, I would always pay bit of extra for better immersion. If you like something you stick with it for years, so it's worth. OMG no ground effect for ACC, that's only thing I play on PS5 and bit of dirt 2. generous and fair for iRacing. Thanks Karl for review.

Hi Karl, am sure you're aware but I'll mention it anyway. You can use SimHub in conjunction with an Xbox (and PS I presume). I have Xbox output Telemetry to SimHub which is running on a Laptop. From there I get all the SimHub functionality and configuration for the majority of Xbox driving games, F1, Forza, Dirt etc. So I have bass shakers, dashboard and LEDs all working on my rig being run by SimHub through USB but whilst playing Xbox.

A single butt kicker is really best for a single effect or multiple effects that are unlikely to occur simultaneously. Multiple effects mixed to a single tactile device often get muddled. For example, engine vibration tends to drown out anything else.

Unfortunately Karl I don't think this was ever intended for people that already have tactile transducers, it is meant for those of us that can't be bothered to get into that complexity and just want to plug and play. Since I use Sim Hub by default this is not a negative for me. To be fair I think you have to look at it from the point of view that the person buying it has no feedback other than the wheel itself, as you did at the end.

In this video it's seem your pedals are the Fanatec V3, I was wondering if it's because you prefer those one in the end for Simracing compare to the Asetek, or that the Asetek you had was for review only. In the end, do you recommend the Asetek or the Fanatec ? And if the Fanatec are recommended have you added any damper to them ? Also, if you cannot answer because of some sponsoring, I understand no worries. Cheers for all the videos you make.
