Scene from the Musical “Next to Normal”:
His wife has just left him, and he is alone in his home.
She suffers from depression and manic depressive episodes, that include her seeing her long-dead child (played by Phoenyx Hawkins in this clip).
Even though this child died as a baby, the wife has imagined him as growing up over the last 17 years, and still being part of the family.
Here, the father admits that he too has been haunted by his thoughts of his dead son.

I can't articulate how well this performance suits the show. Having a younger actor play Gabe for this scene in particular, singing to his father who stopped mourning him when he would have been child-aged and not the near-adult Diana sees, is so heartbreaking and fitting. Stellar performance from both!

I was captivated by the girl in the background, crying to this performance. (Honestly, I don’t know how she’s the only one tearing up at this, the song and scene are so powerful!)
