This video is a bit missed leading in my opinion, yes Jordan was a big part of making it being green lighting. I would say he would be better than Zac Efron, but Jackman was the only reason why it got green light at the end of the day. It was in his interest for many moons. Make no mistake.

@suitingstorm This entire movie is filled with fakeness. This guy saves it all and then doesn't get to be a part of anything. Also the girl who sings, but doesn't actually sing the never never song...
@RationalSaneThinker Жыл бұрын
@@scottvrichey Yes, "Never Enough" that was actually sung by Loren Allred. The BluRay commentary talks about it. Allred was hired as a stand-in, just like Jeremy was, and actress Rebecca Ferguson was supposed to sing it in the movie. After hearing Allred though, she told the director, "I can sing, but not like that!" and suggested that she lipsync to Allred's vocals. So the two spent weeks together, with Ferguson copying every mannerism down to the veins on Allred's neck. She did an incredible job. The good thing about this story is that Ferguson didn't put her own ego above what's good for the movie. She realized Allred is a much better singer and was willing to put in the extra work required to lipsync. Because of Ferguson and the director, Allred's career was launched.

@@scottvrichey Having seen his video and some other talks it doesn't seem like they ever straight up lied to him. They never said he was getting the role, when he did the demo everything was above board. However it really gets disrespectful when they called him up and asked him to pay for the ticket and obviously a place to stay. It would have been one thing if the movie got greenlit they were going to cast him. That would be him taking a risk and it's part of the business, you win some you lose some. It's the fact that they must have known that he was going there thinking this was his audition, but knew they had never any intention of casting him because Jackman wanted Efron. So really they were just asking him to do them a big favor, and you know what that would have been okay if they had been upfront and honest about it. Him knowing those two guys that he helped do the original demos for, that's a really shitty thing to do a friend. It's why after hearing Witver talk about Lucas film my respect for them grew immensely (no matter what one might thing of their recent output). When asking for a favor they A) say "can you please do us a favor" and B) will remember that you did that favor for them, so as long as you don't bug them about wanting a job. They will find other ways to pay the favor back down the line in some way. At the very least as friends they could have backed him up after he did rewrite the stars, or right after they got the greenlight and in front of everyone say "thanks for helping us and the attempt at the high notes Jeremy we know that you can actually do that part and that you shouldn't really be singing right now because of your voice. We apricate it." I hope that Jackman didn't know about that part of Jeremy flying himself out, didn't know who he was and just thought it was a stand in the guys had brought in with no expectations. Because if he did know, especially if he heard the demos before the presentation. I know Jeremy said he tried to get out of there once he realized what was going on. But Jackman or his friends could have gone straight to him, taken him aside, said thank you. Be man enough to say "you really are a fantastic talent it's just that I've/we've been in talks and part of getting the greenlight was this and getting Efron on board", and reimbursed him for what it cost him to get and be there. Not like Jeremy is a struggling actor who could barley pay his rent, yet for me it's the principle of a thing. Guy did everything required of him and more, making the project happen for Jackman, not so much as a thank you. Because I get it, Efron is a much bigger attraction, he obviously would look great next to Zendaya so even though Efron isn't actually able to sing rewrite the stars without a cracked falsetto like Jeremy and Zendaya can. His looks, charisma, being a bigger star and the fact that he also is a great singer just not as great as Jeremy. In this business pure talent isn't always enough, from an artist perspective you would pick Jeremy. As a business decision if at that time you could get Efron and Zendaya, Jeremy never stood a chance. Rejection is such a big part of the job, but this wasn't a rejection it was: "You know you would really be doing us a big favor" without actually explaining that it would be a favor.

But the point is if Jordan hadn't stepped in the execs would have been going to a room with a bunch of actors and nobody would be singing any of the songs, Hugh wasn't supposed to sing that day Hugh only ended up singing because the adrenaline got the better of him. These are both such great perspectives. And also a reminder of just how brutal the entertainment industry is. Everyone has a story and something they want so badly. But even the tremendous amount of deserved success that Jeremy has had is something a hundred others have given every bit of their heart into pursuing, and come up short. That’s why I appreciated this KZbin video so much as a reminder of all the people who yearn to tell stories. Edited to add: did the producers of the film really make him fly himself out on his own dime to perform in this demo for free? I know many people would absolutely still kill for that opportunity (including the nameless other people in the room), so I get anyone saying yes.
@hotram14 ай бұрын
@@isaacmcallister5649 Give me a break! "I'm not just Wolverine" wasn't Hugh Jackman's "perspective." Everyone was already aware of Jackman's passion for musical theater. He had already starred in the movie version of Les Miserables and won a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway musical The Boy from Oz by this point. Additionally Jackman wasn't suddenly unable to sing for health reasons. He was instructed not to sing because he had surgery on his nose and the Doctor didn't want him to rip out the stitches. Let's be very clear Jackman chose not to sing and had Jeremy do all the heavy lifting for him. Then at the very end Jackman totally cut Jeremy off and started singing the final song so he could be the hero. Anyway you slice it Jackman was a jerk in this scenario.

I fell in love with her voice, her charisma and her duets with Katharine McPhee were so amazing ❤ The Greatest Showman is one of my favorite movies for its actors (Hugh Jackman 🙏) but for all of its songs and "From now on" is a good example of what makes the movie so powerful. Thank goodness Jeremy Jordan was there to work a miracle and give us a wonderful movie 💖🤩💫 He deserves more recognition worldwide!👍

Thanks for the video, I have seen that huge jackman clip singing for the movie green light and noticed Jeremy in the video, didnt know who he was but always wanted to find out, now I know why I wanted to find out the backstory.

I still really feel bad for him. He deserves more than what he's gotten from TGSM.

He doesn't need TGSM, he has and continues to do amazing without them

He's such a fantastic singer and performer. I really wish he would have played that role :(

Jeremy Jordan is an amazing actor and singer. He was smart enough to bail on Supergirl before it tanked and I agree with the comment that he is criminally underrated.

Now now now. Jeremy Jordan is a top rank performer, well known from all people in the business and lives very well from his art and craft. He's got all the recognition he can get. There is much, much more than celebrity to a musical career, actually most musicians don't seek fame. Just like Loren Allred, he could try throwing himself into a solo career if he saw fit. As for Jackman, he could NOT not sing the final song. His performance was the selling point of the demo.

His story happens a lot when great and talented people get looked over for someone who has the star power. I honestly wish there was a movie about this, I think it’d be a great representation of musical theater treatment in the bright lights world of hollywood. Idk if I’d want it to end happier or at least with the hope of something more for the character but i would definitely title it ‘the Greatest showman’ as reference to his story.

I knew he could sing because several times during its run, Supergirl had musical numbers, including an entire episode, and both Jeremy and Melissa Benoist, who were former musical stars from other shows, were the featured voices every time. Personally, I would have loved to see him play Philip Carlysle in this movie. Zac Efron gets enough parts--just once, I'd like to see Jeremy get the recognition he deserves for his musical chops as much as for his acting chops.

I loved Zac in it, but Jeremy is phenomenal! Why didn't they cast him?

Jeremy Jordan Should be HUGE star, catch his YT video of him singing Maria from West Side Story. Greatest Showman could have pushed him into that major stardom, but Hollywood burned him.

Phenomenal voice...glad to know a back story behind the "behind the scenes." THIS is my favorite song from this movie and the "behind the scenes" brought me to tears because I thought of the love and need in that room for everyone to shine...didn't know the limelight was stolen. Gives a different perspective but he still sings it better

I have been passing this video because I thought it was about Zac somehow saving the show and didn’t really care, then I realized it’s Jeremy and clicked so fast 😂

a literal unsung hero. the substitute made of hot glue and toothpicks to keep the project afloat long enough for hugh jackman to steal the show, and the project move forward with other stars. o7 i will probably always remember you as he who stood there so that the greatest showman could become reality.

I always wondered what was up with all the people in the workshop who gave so much of themselves in that performance but then didn’t make it into the movie. Thanks for sharing this story! It’s too bad that the entertainment industry is so brutal, that you can give everything and not get the thing you want.

I always wondered who that young man was, this was very interesting! Good to see him talk about it in such a light hearted way too, it must have been very disappointing to not get the part of Philip Carlyle after all that work and paying to go out there himself! He has a great voice and seems like a very decent human, and has an amazing voice, I hope he gets great success in the future.

Me too. And I was always touched by his professionalism, the way he stepped back and didn't fight for the solo. While it must have been crushing at the time, especially as he was sick and couldn't hit the top notes for Rewrite the Stars, and was hoping to redeem himself.

Sometimes when I would audition for a show and get sent a demo of someone singing the track I would just think…why aren’t we just casting them…?
