Nextel phones still working 😎

I miss the old simple times when Nextel's were around. I have a few old Nextel phones that still work and if you have them on the Direct Talk feature they act like a regular walkie talkie.

We still use our old nextel phones on direct connect for jobs, camping & so on. Only 2 to 3 mile radius but they work faster and better then texting or calling someone. Wish they would bring back the nextel 2 way system because you were able to talk to a single person or a group to get work done instead of now you call or text someone and it takes forever to get them to answer or get a response back from them leading to a break down in work efficiency or emergency communication.

Now me being a Nextel freak..I can tell that their are some sprint Nextel phones that still work on the network..they are not the iden ones, but the ones that have the sprint logo on them...they are out here

@@mitchellarmstrong3759, they’re probably referring to the CDMA “Nextel” phones. The phone part used Sprint’s network, and the PTT feature used iDEN and Direct Talk. So, if you had one, you’d be able to make calls, texts, and PTT calls over a short distance.

@UCfUb3g8F-lKhSvF9YSRyTBw, you can activate any digital Sprint phone for phone service, but only the PTT devices that run Kodiak’s system will work now. The older QChat phones that worked with iDEN PTT is also a retired service, including the Direct Connect Now app for smartphones. All previous iterations of DC have been replaced by Kodiak’s Direct Connect Plus application for smartphones and flips. Unfortunately, the new system has zero backward compatibility. On a brighter note, it works very well - much better than QChat did.

Yes, need a sim for it, if not it i believe it gives an error message and you wont be able to to anything. Nextel sim will work or att.

Its not that they are still 100% working, just the Direct Talk works. It is a walkie talkie function that allows u to use it up to i think a mile.

Im not sure of the distance but maybe a mile or two. The one on the left is an i9, middle is i880, and right is i578. The i580 i believe also had that feature.

@@Ryani870, advertised at 6 miles under ideal conditions. The hybrid phones used Sprint’s network for phone calls and also had this offline feature. Sprint will still activate them.

@@thebillymartin1- yes, the feature was called Direct Talk. If was an offline, digital walkie talkie built into a Sprint/Nextel phone. The hybrid ic502 and ic602 (camera) can still be activated on Sprint’s network. However, Nextel DC no longer works and Direct Talk only works while the phone network is disabled. Moreover, the only CDMA band it has is PCS and 1X. The camera version has a very lackluster camera by today’s standards. Nevertheless, they still work, and you can order them on eBay.
