That's a very nice bus. Back when I rode the school bus we were lucky to have working heat. Most of them are stick shift and if I'm not mistaken they were internationals. Whatever a S1800 or similar was. I remember seeing that on the hood no air ride this was up north in Baltimore. No air conditioning no air brakes until the '80s

I noticed you have the Standard Push-Pull parking brake knob 💖🥳😉. Was that a change that you made? I was hoping they were not making that electronic Intelipark parking brake system standard. I rather have a knob that I can physically pull instead of it being electronically applied. I wish they kepted the other suspended brake pedal. I don’t like these ones. Now can you choose different mirrors? Or a regular T style shifter instead of the dial on the column?
@Bluebirdvision914 ай бұрын
@@jackschissler255 I made that change. I think you can still get the T handle. But it’s the same thing. Just a linkage that goes to another box that tells the tcm to change gears.

I’m pretty sure My district specced 5.87 rear gears on the 2017 and up gen ed CEs. They have lower shift points and shift sooner than the CE300’s and C2’s. The 2016 and 2017 C2’s have 5.57 axles and Cummins ISB. They used to use 5.57 on all of the 2006-2012 CE’s I believe. All of The special ed buses have 5.57 rear axles because of the smaller tire size. I do know for sure that they use the 6 speeds on the 2016- present buses. Especially the C2’s. I can only speculate though.

That parking brake knob if too far to the right. Should be closer to the shifter. Ky likes making things ergonomically laid out like putting hazard and noise kill switches together so you can hit them all together. Ky wants us to apply parking brake then neutral.
@jaysmith14082 ай бұрын
Standard position for the brake valves, just glad they finally put in the bent console instead of the flat console. With the flat, you really had to stretch to get them. The bent console brings it much closer. I’ve been told against applying the parking brake against the transmission still in gear, then it torques against the clutch, instead of already being in neutral. Auto neutral will take care of it anyways, but shouldn’t be the primary system.

So when you spec these, can you not have a governor on it and just have them be able to be drivable at the maximum speed which I think is 85 mph? Once you spec one at 70 miles an hour can you change it later or is it mechanical? my school district has IC BE Siri school buses, which is used for special education but here in California the maximum speed limit while students are on the bus is 55 mph. Also, can you still get a small school bus for special education transport?
@Josb_Bluebird21433 ай бұрын
The governor depends on what your state specs state. I think it’s North Carolina has all their buses set to 55. Our in Ky is set to 72. You can change the speed in Cummins Insite but you can only lessen speed and not increase it.
@jaysmith14082 ай бұрын
Theoretically you can have them ungoverned, and if you have a good engine and highway gears, like a 3.2 rear end, you can clear (allegedly) 100 mph. I have heard of drivers from an unnamed company, getting their brand new coaches well in excess of that, at risk of severe tire failure i must add. That said, if you are a board operated company, they aren’t likely to approve the specs for that, if you’re independent, your client may not approve of the spec of your buses (if they find out about it). Apparently there are requirements from the states for governed buses, which i’m sure the manufacturer is obliged to follow. That said, it is hard coded into the PCM, and can be altered (allegedly) by anyone with Cummins software and relevant access permissions. And may i add that a 240hp 6.7 ISB is already doing it’s darnest to go fifty, is unlikely to hit the governor anyways, especially with 5.2 axles. A highway spec bus, no problem. A city, country spec bus, difficult. And they do offer shorter versions, i believe around 26 passengers, at which point the chassis is far overqualified for the job, and you’d be down in the cutaway bus range.
@isaiahanderson72372 ай бұрын
The top speed really depends on the gear ratio used and whether or not the transmission has all 6 gears or not. 5.57 gears can get you to decent highway speeds of 70-72 mph on a full size bus with full size tires without 6th unlocked. The ECU can be tuned to also limit throttle when a certain speed is reached.
@jaysmith14082 ай бұрын
@@isaiahanderson7237 5.57’s will do seventy in fifth? Fairly high rpm’s i would imagine.
@isaiahanderson72372 ай бұрын
@@jaysmith1408 with the Allison yes. 9sb19 filmed a video of a 2006 IC CE accelerating to 70 and it was 70 mph in 5th with 2500 rpm. So yes fairly high rpm. For a diesel engine anyway. That’s why districts now order them with 6th unlocked to keep rpm’s low.
