Otonashi died without regrets. So he didn't go to this afterlife world. Kanade's wish was to thank Otonashi for giving her his heart. Because There was no way she could thank him , he was transfered into afterlife. At least that's what I think :l

But if he was there merely to fullfil Kanade's wish he should have disappeared with her when she passed on. This means that he was probably regretting about something else.
@DistractedGlobeGuy9 жыл бұрын
Mr. J Not necessarily: he made a choice to stay, remember? He was telling Kanade about it which is what lead to telling her he loved her, which is what lead to her making her own confession.
@TheLadyGrey9 жыл бұрын
Here is my theory: The reason Kanade was there before him was because he died with no regrets but she did. Her only regret was that she never got to thank him for the kind thing he did. His heart prolonged her life but no for long. So she died anyway and was in the afterlife because of her regret. Her being in the afterlife means that there would have to be someway for her to thank him right? So in light of that Otonashi was not reincarnated but sent to the afterlife so Kanade would be able to thank him. When Kanade finally thanked him and disappeared after he declared his love for her Otonashi finally had a regret that kept in in the afterlife. However he soon realized that he would never meet her again if he never tried to move and so he did. ...That's when he saw Kanade again and chased after her after hearing her singing Crow Song...or I think it was Alchemy

Another reasonable explanation would be that because he donated his organs, he wasn't sent to purgatory immediately because he wasn't entirely dead. Once his last organ receiver had died, he was sent into the afterlife to solve Kanade's wish.

I felt episode 12 foreshadowed that otonashi was actually there before everyone

Otonashi himself didn't understand why he ended up there because he died on good terms with his life, however Kanade says what kept her from being able to move on was the fact that she was never able to say thank you to her heart donor. Otonashi was probably brought from the afterlife to purgatory because that's the only way Kanade could move on.

I always kinda saw him as the angel who was sent from the afterlife into purgatory in order to help everyone move on and stuff. Like, everyone assumed Kanade was the angel but in reality it was Otonashi, and after he arrived everyone found peace with their lives and were able to move on. (So, just what you said but instead of being sent just for Kanade he was their for eveyone)
@HalcyonSerenade9 жыл бұрын
I think the whole thing is easier explained with the Japanese traditional myth that memories reside in the heart. That's why Otonashi listening to his own heart beat in Kanade's chest and regaining his memories was such convincing proof to Kanade that he was her donor, as well as convincing proof to Otonashi that Kanade's theory is correct. To us Westerners, that sounds like a bit of romantic mysticism, but it has its roots in actual Japanese culture, which we're unaware of. It's like Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean: he cut out his heart so he wouldn't feel the pains of love, based on the well-known Western myth that love comes from the heart. We accept it because that idea, while false, is part of our culture. To an outside culture that doesn't have the same long-time myth, it would require some explanation, just like this "memories are in the heart" myth has to be explained to us. Otonashi likely lost his memories because his heart was transplanted, following the cultural myth. His spirit was likely stuck in limbo because of this amnesia, and eventually wound up in the High School Afterlife since, without memories of his life, he couldn't be fulfilled. You might say "but he died before his heart was removed, so shouldn't his spirit have already moved on?" but at that point, you're getting into "don't think about it that much" territory on a topic we're already probably thinking too much on. As far as the uniform weirdness goes, that's merely the standard school uniform, and it's shown in the prequel manga (and mentioned in the light novel) that everyone that shows up there defaults to that uniform. Getting a Battlefront uniform made is standard business for new recruits. I don't think the manga has even reached the point where they make the new uniforms. So I think claiming that Otonashi was an NPC just before the start of the story is a bit of a stretch. Not to mention that he shows no programming skills or any interest in programming whatsoever. Kind of hard to believe that he would have developed such skills then suddenly lost them or any traces of them later, even after regaining his memories. Or memories of the school before he was an NPC, which Takamatsu had to have regained to pass on. I think that the mentioning of the "original programmer" is just to state that such a tragedy happened to someone because of love, which foreshadows Otonashi's fate. His name isn't mentioned because it's unimportant, and giving him a name might have unintentionally given him more importance. I don't think it's an important secret--it's merely Conservation of Detail. All in all, there's no big secret or hidden plot twist. It's just that there's a Japanese cultural myth that we're out of the loop on, and the believability of the plot happens to hinge on it.

I thought this too, how could an aspiring doctor do all this programming? Keep in mind the manual for all program is also in this world, and Kanade did the same, although her past is unclear, she might’ve been a programmer or something
@gregoryhines8695 жыл бұрын
That still doesn’t explain why she ended up in purgatory before he did. For seemingly, a pretty long time. Long enough for her to learn about creating programming in that world, and with enough time for her to have done it before Yuri ended up there, because she assumed that she was an angel with a relationship to god based on her “powers” Also, I don’t think someone would have to know programming skills before being in purgatory to utilize it at all. There’s no evidence that Angel was a programmer in her past life, and because of how young she was, it’s unlikely that that’s the case, so perhaps you can still learn the skill after ending up in purgatory. Overall, there are a couple of plot holes in the show, like why did every Person who ended up be-friending Angel get obliterated? Who was the original programmer? Like, the one who created that world in the first place. If reincarnation is the afterlife for this world, then why is there a need for a purgatory in the first place? Etc. with all that being said, this show was great despite its flaws. I think it makes more sense for Otonashi being the original programmer, and becoming an NPC, and reawakening because he got close to his heart, but not close enough to regain his memories right off the batt. But, I don’t believe that Angel was his original lover. I think when he got there, he fell in love, lost his love, became an NPC, then starting regaining his memories after he got close enough to Angel. As to why he went to purgatory in the first place? I think he ended up there the first time he died, because he still had regrets about not being able to become a doctor, and seeing a man die in front of him would definitely have him regretting a lot the first time. That’s what landed him there at first. But when he regained his memories after coming close enough to his heart, he had an opportunity to see his death in a new light.
@maxkchiu5 жыл бұрын
@@gregoryhines869 I think everyone who befriended Angel got obliterated because they had a happy school life with Angel so they fulfilled their regrets. Otonashi stayed after feeling fulfilled because he still had a need to stay with Angel so he wasn't completely fulfilled. Above was stated that the original programmer's true identity is irrelevant and in the anime, it's stated that he's become an NPC to deal with the madness of waiting so long. The purgatory, I assume, is to give their lives a second chance so the life still has meaning to it. And for him to fall in love with Angel after having fallen in love with someone else would involve him as an NPC falling in love before turning back and then suddenly having strong enough feelings to escape the NPC and become a person again. And if we're going with the idea that he regained his memories after coming close to his heart, then he would've changed back a lot earlier than when he did as he would've gotten close to kanade (being the school PRESIDENT) earlier.

Here's a theory, Otanashi died with no regrets so he had no reason of going to the afterlife. Thanks to Kanade he showed up so she could think him for the heart. Without regret he doesn't have a reason to leave + you never actually see Otanashi being reincarnated. So basically Otanashi is stuck in the afterlife waiting for the return of his loved one Kanade.... (Another fact to prove Otanashi could be the programmer is that the program only works on Kanade the one he loved.)

I have an excellent addition to your theory answering who the girl was that disappeared. When heart surgery is involved a patient is essentially dead as the heart is stopped to allow surgeons to operate. To keep other organs from shutting down, their blood is pumped through a bypass machine instead of the heart. Since time is different in the purgatory system kanade and otanashi could have had enough time to develop a strong relationship before she was revived after the surgery though she may have had no memory of this happening.

ok Here's Mine (Disclaimer, it has fan fic but in my opinion, the most fitting story) Otonashi died. and he was in purgatory because he died before the other victims were saved so he never knew that they survived. So his main regret that he had failed those people. And in regret that he cant help people in life, that he helps people in death and make this place for conflicted souls t pass on. ok heres the fanfic bit. kanade had a heart issue. and it had just flat-lined. so in essence she was dead, albeit for a short amount of time. and naturally she'd be in conflict(shes young so its obvious that she had regrets). And since Odanashi is The Programmer would have build the place that the anime takes place in, Kanade's Soul goes there. and there she meets Otonashi. And they fall in love. and since in purgatory time probs works differently to here, we can assume that only a short amount of time has passed irl. The doctors find a heart. Otanashis. and thus perform the transplant successfully. Kanade comes back to life. This is why the girl the programmer fell in love with goes away and why he waited. If she found peace, she would have moved on. No. She got her old life back. and Otanashi promised to wait for her. And again since time probs works differently, he goes mad and turns himself into an NPC. As to why he comes back, I personally have no clue. the best one is the explanation in this vid. and when he first met her, he didnt think that she was harmful because remnants from his past afterlife thing remained. As to why the final credits scene shows a reincarnated vesion of the two is probs because, he simply has no regrets, whether he likes it or not. In the end, him donating his organs saved kanade so his life wasnt a waste. and even in the purgatory place he helped his friends come to peace. his life even in death was valued. And, if he had any, his only regret is probably that he couldnt spend enough time with Kanade, which would insentivise him to move on (probs). So he inadvertanatly passed on. And giving by the fact that Kanade was singing a tune she heard at purgatory, we can assume a small amount of info gets passed on, which explains why Otanashi went after her in that scene. this is my lil theory. Hope Yall liked it

I think since Otonashi didnt have any regrets when he died, he didnt go to purgatory. Instead he went to "heaven". He then got his mind erased so he wouldnt remember all the bad things that have happened in his life. After a while, he was sent to purgatory to allow Kanade to get obliterated because her regret was not being able to say thank you to Otonashi. The main goal of purgatory is for everyone to get obliterated so they can rest peacefully and happy. But since Kanade's regret was not being able to thank Otonashi she was stuck there forever. This is why "God" placed Otonashi in purgatory, to let Kanade get obliterated. Well that is my theory!
@antiawarenessawarenessclub7 жыл бұрын
Otonashi wouldn't have been transported there JUST so Kanade could thank him, like some people are saying. Hinata was able to move on without catching a ball, and Yui didn't hit a home run, so it shows that the EXACT regret doesn't have to be fulfilled for someone to move on. If Otonashi hadn't been there, Kanade would've eventually come to accept that some things in life you just never will be able to do (or stayed there, whatever) Here's a theory: what if Otonashi wasn't considered 'dead' until ALL his organs died. That's why he arrived late
@kashifhussainkashifhussain70168 жыл бұрын
Man, you really needto work a bit on your accent! I had a little hard time grasping what you said, but anyway I do agree with your theory. I also read about another theory which seemed quite convincing to me -> Otonashi dies. -> Otonashi moves on, since he died without any regrets. He doesn't end up in the afterlife school thing. -> Kanade dies and ends in the afterlife school thing. -> Kanade wishes to thank Otonashi. -> Kanade's wish "grabs" Otonashi from his peaceful slumber and throws him into the afterlife thing. -> I suspect that this place is designed specifically so people can find happiness, and since Kanade's requisite was to thank Otonashi, the place took him back temporarily. -> Otonashi, upon arrival, loses his memory since he was taken to this world in a not-conventional manner. -> Events in the anime occur. The reason Otonashi didn't end up in the afterlife school upon death, is because he didn't really die with regrets. His own theory was that he simply "forgot" and thus ended up in the school, but that doesn't make much sense. Instead, he moved on, rested peacefully for a while, and then Kanade's wish brought him to the school.

@afkable62418 жыл бұрын
+Surfangel A really good question, but i believe that it took so long to get to the purgatory world so that the other members of the battlefront alliance would have had some time to join up and recruit members for the alliance... this is how it could've went: THE REAL WORLD -otonashi dies of thirst, and help couldn't make it in time -otonashi's organs get transplanted, and kanade received his heart -kanade lives on with otonashi's heart and then dies due to an unexplained reason NOW THE PURGATORY WORLD ( please note that purgatory world has a different timeline than the acutal world) -kanade spawns there and doesn't know why she is there -yuri and the guy with the blue hair spawn at close timings -other members spawn and get recruited to the alliance that was made be the previous 2 members (yuri and the other guy) -some time passes for the battlefront to strengthen there alliance between one another -kanade is seen as an enemy (by the battlefront) because she is student council president and it is her duty to protect the NPC students -kanade develops protective weapons to defend the school from the battlefront alliance -otonashi spawns, and the intro of the anime happens -when otonashi gets stabbed in the chest/heart by kanade, kanade realizes/remembers that he is the donor of her current heart, and that she came to this world because she didn't get to thank him for his heart and kindness -otonashi joins the alliance because he thought kanade's act was very cruel, therefore he considered she was an angel (NPC of sorts) -the plot goes on...until the finale where everything gets explained SOME MIGHT QUESTION, WHY WAS OTONASHI THE ONE THAT IS CHOSEN TO COME TO THAT WORLD? remember that otonashi always wanted people to say thank you, and notice that after everytime he helped (obliterated ) someone, they said thank you, which really made otonashi so happy ( he mentioned that in one of his flash backs when he was with his sister )

@taskeenmather2168 жыл бұрын
Although I totally agree with the theory that Otonashi was the original programmer, I feel I can add to the missing pieces. Otonashi created the programme in an already existing afterlife world, we know this since Shiina was from the feudal times which was ages ago. He only created the programme so that people would graduate to peace or heaven once they no longer have any regrets. Switching backward, he was there from the time he lost his life in the train accident and fell in love with Kanade who arrived probably after sometime of utilizing his heart. She graduated in spite of her regrets and moved on without Otonashi. That broke him so he therefore created the programme. Once he awoke from his NPC state, he fell in love with Kanade again, note, he only regained his memories of his life on earth, I don't think the memories from the afterlife land can be regained. Kanade then said she merely returned because she regretted not saying thank you and was the obliterated.
@taskeenmather2168 жыл бұрын
This also accounts as to why Kanade knew about obliteration and she wanted to help the others be fore that programme took full force. I think it all tied in so well once Otonashi graduated and as the 2nd Lab programmed-programmer stated, in reincarnation it's not impossible you meet up again... Which is how Kanade and Otonashi met once again. She having remembered the song as well as him.

My theory is that time moves A LOT faster in the afterlife so in the real world the entire series took only a few minutes. So all of the characters died at roughly the same time that day. This would allow Kanade to be the first to die and first to arrive at the school. Then in the process of the series she got Otonashi's heart transplant which saved her life but her spirit didnt rejoin her body until she got the opportunity to thank him. Otonashi had amnesia because he came to the afterlife without his entire body. Emergency services got to the train right when Otonashi "died" but they could have kept him alive until he got to the hospital when the heart transplant could safely be performed.
@SageYui6 жыл бұрын
I don't think Otonashi is the programmer. Wasn't the programmer made an NPC? But Otonashi is not an NPC. He just has amnesia. Maybe there is a connection related to his heart not being there and thus he doesn't have his memories. Also, if Otonashi was the programmer, wouldn't he have been there in the school for a long time? Then he would have been noticed by the special students there. Which means, he should be there before Yuri and the others came and he would have turned himself into an NPC soon after that. But Otonashi only came after a while.
@keosu20904 жыл бұрын
The Programmer's real name is unknown. But like Otonashi, he was never supposed to have entered the Afterlife, but somehow ended up there anyway. During his time in the Afterlife School, he fell in love with an unnamed girl who disappeared when her regret was fulfilled. Unwilling or unable to accept that, he decided to wait for her to return. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF THATS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PROGRAMMER,THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO OTONASHI AT THE END, he’s so broken that Angel left and will wait for her return but lose sanity for waiting too long that’s my theory. The show intentionally makes you so emotional at that moment that you don’t even realise it.
@ric_l39 жыл бұрын
Another Epilogue kinda loops it back towards the beginning. It was stated the girl he fell in love with an unnamed girl ( Kanade ) fulfilled her wish and was obliterated, so he stayed there waiting for her to return. So in Another Epilogue, he stays behind to help others ( shown by talking to the blonde rebeliois kid) meaning this epilogue was not in fact an alternate ending.

I actually figured this out on my own. It seemed fairly obvious to me. They threw out some big hints that aren't even subtle, all it takes is to think back on what happened, and it comes together very quickly. The plot holes that I see are why the hell does Otanashi care so much about Kanade in the first place??? and how does Otanashi know how to program? and how does he even get the chance to create that world after dying anyway?

I've looked up this theory myself plenty of times as well! I originally also had the thought that Otonashi was the original programmer. That is until I read the prequel Angel Beats manga (bare in mind it was fan translated). In the Manga it shows which of the SSS members came first. Shina is from around the feudal Japan era, having obviously died way before any of the main characters but she only came after Ooyama and Chaa and somewhere around the same time as Noda. Another thing is that all of the SSS members do start off in the traditional NPC outfit, stated episode 1 as well! I love fan theories surrounding Angel Beats because it's one of my favorite animes! and I enjoyed the video! :D

When i started to think about that fact you mention in the beginning, i arrived to exactly the same theory you exposed here. And i want to add something: when Kanade was waiting for the heart to be donated, was she tecnically dead? If that's the case, then we could assume that it was at that time when they first met, so Kanade is the same person the programmer was waiting. Being alive once more erased her memories about the afterlife, but maybe she still had a bit of them, so she "knew" the programmer saved her life, and that's why she needed so much to say him "thanks". I just hope people won't tell i stole your theory, i just searched for this video because someone mentioned it in another one. It's funny how we tought exactly the same

About Otonashi’s amnesia. He doesn’t need a head injury to explain it. 1) they’re dead they don’t have the lasting effects of any injuries they sustained when they were alive 2) they explain in the very first episode that a lot of people awaken with amnesia and eventually it all comes back to them. And Takamatsu didn’t have amnesia after turning into an npc he just became like all the others acting like a normal high school student. Otonashi on the other hand doesn’t understand anything about this world when he wakes up

Where as Christ is a computer guy and would probably know how to program. Also when it showed him on the roof on his diary it says I have been on this world too long which can make reference to what the man told yuri at the end. It also shows no details about Christ moving on. Thoughts???

Whilst it sounds interesting Otonashi might be the programmer there are quite a few things which suggest he's not, the main one being near the end the NPC said "You wouldn't know even if I told you" when asked who programmed him, the simplest answer might be the programmer is the NPC found in the computer room, the guy confirmed the programmer turned himself into an NPC, therefore the NPC in the computer room might not have even known he was the programmer, he did say the programmer went mad alter all so might not even recognise his own name as an NPC.
@thewest86304 жыл бұрын
I personally like the theory about him not being "fully" dead until all his donors died. Especially with how important missing his heart was, I think it checks. Think about it. Angel dies soon after her heart transplant. The other organ receivers could've lived decades before dying. That would explain why Angel had been there long enough to be the oldest being and why Otonashi took so long to make it. The only other explanation is that time simply doesn't work the same. It doesn't make sense (to me) that he was brought back from peace to help angel because Otonashi wouldn't be Otonashi anymore. He'd have already moved on to his next life.
@kasrahelali48159 жыл бұрын
I think otanashi met angel earlier, she passed on, died again and had to come back to thank otanashi. Thats the only way it would make sense cause its weird to think that otanashi fell in love with a random girl that the anime barely mentions.
@Fafix6669 жыл бұрын
Extremely overrated show with a decent ending though. It'd be an amazing anime if it lasted for 113 episodes, not just 13. A lot of things were unexplained, a lot of cool characters were left untouched. Good ending doesn't erase that.
@Fafix6669 жыл бұрын
+Fafix666 Not to mention that story progression is dull and often makes no sense. One episode girls are singing, next episode they play baseball and then suddenly MC befriends their greatest foe, who was their enemy for no apparent reason. And what the heck was going on with Kanade and Yuri? First Yuri thinks she's an angel and has connection to God, then she says that Kanade isn't an angel and she knew that from the beginning. Then they become BFF? Teary ending doesn't justify this load of bullcrap.

I got out of it was that otonashi was originally the one who created the npcs. They explained a npc can go back to having a soul if there drives strong enough. Otonashi before death wanted to help people have a purpose all of the battlefront vs angel stuff gave him a purposes again so he got his soul back. I felt episode 12 foreshadowed that otonashi was actually there before everyone

Nah I don't think so the NPC in the world of afterlife are just like your average farmer in a mmorpg game only there to fill in the empty space and give out a specific set responses if asked a question. It's the human who've been forcefully turned into an NPC can gain there soul back if thier drive is strong enough.

The reason why Kanade was there before Otanashi was because he lost his memories. Since he lost his memories after death he wandered for along time then got into the world. Remember only those that died with regrets go to that place, but Otanashi did not have any regrets after he died.
@SethBeastable9 жыл бұрын
But it isn't true. Yuri asks the program "Who programmed you?" And it responds, "You wouldn't know him even if I told you, he's from a long time ago."
@CobaltLancer3 жыл бұрын
Otonashi wasn’t the original programmer. The manga reveals that everyone who enters the afterlife wears the NPC uniform. Hinata entered the world in the exact same way Otonashi did. Yuri also wore an NPC uniform. The Battlefront members eventually changed to their own uniforms. Also, if you pay closer attention to the anime, it also becomes clear. Takamatsu only lost his memories because he turned into an NPC and was condemned to think and act like an NPC. In Ep.13, Otonashi said he eventually broke out of his NPC state and regained all his memories. Yuri also became an NPC but she broke out and regained her memories. In Ep.12, Yuri also asked the AI who the original programmer was and he told her that she wouldn’t know, even if he told her. Well she knows who Otonashi is so he can’t be the programmer. He also said he’s still in hiding. Well Otonashi isn’t so that also further proves he isn’t the programmer. The original programmer is just someone we never saw. Otonashi going through identical things as the original programmer is just an example of history repeating itself. As for Kanade arriving before Otonashi, everyone has their same theory but here’s mine. The reason Kanade arrived before Otonashi is because she had regrets when she died which was being unable to thank her heart donor which is why she was immediately sent to the afterlife whereas Otonashi didn’t which means he was originally supposed to go wherever else like reincarnation or heaven or whatnot and he was basically floating through dimensions until Kanade arrived in the afterlife and he arrived sometime later. *_Think of it like this:_* You’re hanging out with a friend at a café or something. You then have a bank appointment or something like that and head off. Your friend stays for a little longer until they have the same thing as you. You’re headed for a new bank you’ve never been to whereas your friend is headed for the same one they’ve always been to. You’re stuck in traffic, have a hard time finding it and pretty much drive in a circle whereas your friend arrives safely. You eventually arrive at a bank but it’s the one your friend went to. How did your friend arrive before you even though you left earlier? You were getting lost without a proper destination whereas your friend had one.

The progammer or otonashi is waiting for some girl to arrive.... a girl which otonashi's donor goes to... its obviously kanade because she said so at the end of angel beats. Otonashi didn't donor his heart for hatsune.... so its obvious it was kanade hes waiting for Edit: also if you watch carefully otonashi's uniform at the begining of angel beats its actually the NPC boys uniform. And if you already watch the angel beats alternative ending it happens before kanade even arrive at the world. If you pay attention on the angel beats alternative end... take a closer look at otonashi's uniform. ITS THE SAME UNIFORM JUST LIKE WHEN OTONASHI FIRST MET YURI OR THE NPC BOYS UNIFORM One more thing the boy which appear at the angel beats alternative end is actually iragashi or (whatever his name is) the person that helps otonashi after the train crash
@SachinPatel69 жыл бұрын
This is what I think, Otonashi never had any regrets in his life. In the end, he found meaning in his life by donating organs. Kanade was in the NPC world before otonashi, its because otonashi never actually came to NPC world directly from his death. If he did not have any regrets he will not go into NPC world immediately. He was there for one and one reason only, to help kanade. So basically system called for otonashi, long after his death to save kanade one more time. And knowing Otonashi's nature, how he is willing to help others all the time, Otonashi came in NPC world with amnesia to save Kanade. In the end , Otonashi dissappear.

I think otanashi isn't the programmer. I always thought since he died in a fulfilling life, but still died with the desire to help people, his soul wandered until it entered the program, the program didn't know how to deal with a soul like this, so it began the processes of making otanashi into an npc, but his desire to help people somehow messed with the program, shooting him down into the beginning of the show. But i could be wrong

its 2018 and there's still the biggest hole in your theory if Otonashi is the programmer then how could Otonashi learn how to program if he took medical course in his pastlife >oh yes dude there's still programming books in afterlife and yes he programmed angel weapons and shadow bullshits with love detector just because he learned it on books

my theory about the bug in the system is that otonashi wasnt meant to be in the afterlife world as he didnt regret dying, so there was some bug that made otonashi transfer to this world. why the bug happened or what exactly is this bug... who knows... i do have to agree, there is a lot of vagueness and things that didnt really make sense which is why i rated it 7/10 and not higher

Nice explanation. But what was the world where Otonashi meets Kanade and chases after her at the end of ep 13? And when was the 13.5 when Otonashi is the student council president?
@FlashpointLPT8 жыл бұрын
13.5 is the epilogue, isn't it? Well, first of all, after episode 13, if I remember right, kanade passes on in otonashis' hands. Otonashi gets real mad and is sad overall. Now it's up to you to decide; if you think, he passed on aswell, you'll get a happy ending where after he reincarnated , otonashi meets kanade, after she reincarnated aswell, and they finally meet in real life and probably be in love. But, if you think, he didn't passed on and now wants to help other people pass on in afterlife, you get the ending of the epilogue, episode 13.5 how you call it. In this ending otonashi stays in afterlife and helps people. I chose the happy ending, because I like this kind of endings and also the Anime is sort of romance then. So that's all I remember and please note that I saw Angel beats a looooong time ago. I wrote everything from my mobile phone, so please don't get mad if I have used wrong grammatic. Thanks for reading.

Numair Javaid hahah you didn't quite understood why people go to the afterlife. You only go to the afterlife, when there was something in your life you couldn't do/fulfill and then you regret it. In that case you come to the afterlife, so you can accept what happened; therefore you don't regret it anymore and you'll be reincarnated to life. P.S. If you die having no regrets, you'll also , be reincarnated.
@slaveinutopia8 жыл бұрын
i saw it as 13.5 was between the disappearance of kanade and ending of 13. cause it was the afterlife time flowed differently so kanade appeared before otonashi. so i thought it as otonashi stayed and helped people pass on and for some reason he passed on himself. then appeared in the same timeline as kanade
