Wes McCauley - loved my many and hated by many, but what he did in tonights matchup between the New York Rangers and the Utah Hockey Club was pretty cool to see. It was the home opener for the Rangers at MSG and therefore, was the final home opener for legendary play by play announcer Sam Rosen who after this season, is calling it a career. So prior to puck drop, Wes McCauley pointed up to the media booth towards Rosen with a special moment acknowledging the legendary voice of the Rangers. As for the game, Utah came out ready to spoil the party! It was a doozy of a game. We had 11 goals with an explosive 7 goal second period. We had goalies Ingram and Shesterkin in collisions, a little chaos with multiple scrums breaking out and it wouldn’t be a new season, without the infamous goalie interference debacle as Rempe was called for a controversial goalie interference calling back a goal. Overall, a fantastic game that went to overtime. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

Missing RJ... grew up with him in the 70's and later and I loved him. In the 80's, couldn't get them on TV when they changed networks (no cable yet in my area) still, used the radio...RJ made you not miss seeing the game.. sometimes, it was better with him than on TV. Last year, I was at game 7 between Boston and Toronto, and the crowd gave a huge standing ovation to Jack Edwards. I think its so important to acknowledge legendary announcers like Jack and Sam, who have been the voice of a team for years for so many fans. I'm definitely not Wes's biggest fan, but this was a really nice gesture on his part

Jack meant a lot to Bruins fans the same way Sam does for Rangers fans, and to be in the Garden as the crowd acknowledged him for his years of dedication was a very special moment. Was he a homer? Yes, but I think that every team should have a homer calling the games on their local broadcast. God forbid the announcer employed by the New England Sports Network appeals to New England sports fans, right?

Ingram comes out of the blue zone, charges straight into two players booking it for the puck like deer going for my sideview mirror, and gets knocked down by Cuylle, who couldn't get out of the way because he was checking Sergachey at the time. Refs say Goalie interference, I say Ingram needs to watch where he's going.

If they had continued they would have ended up in the corner, not anywhere near the goal and when watching it over slowly you can see neither saw the goalie. In fact, it was only the goalie that saw and knew there was going to be contact and was the one who could have avoided it. That was a fairly obvious case of incidental contact.

Utah is well known for having some of the best skiing in the U.S. it hosted the winter Olympics and will be hosting them again in ten years. It is one of the few places in the country that has year-round training for all major winter sports. Plus there was an owner ready and willing to take the team. An owner who already owns a major league sports team, has an arena, and the state set aside nearly a billion dollars for a new NHL team (Which is likely the whole reason Utah happened.) Makes more sense than Arizona. Quebec has other problems such as their language laws, lack of a viable owner, and a bad exchange rate between Canada and the U.S. It's also a smaller media market than Utah, and I am guessing Bettman wants to expand NHL viewership to non-traditional markets: hence Seattle and Las Vegas. Utah just makes a ton of sense financially and for expanding interest in the sport

In the game though, I'd love to know what the actual goalie interference rules are this year, I guess they've changed again because I can't see Rempe did anything wrong, Ingram came out and initiated the contact with him but in reality he couldn't see anything so wouldn't have saved it unless it just hit him.

Ehh that call was weak at best he was in the paint so technically a penalty but he was in a net front battle. Personally I would’ve let the goal stand and have Toronto figure it out on appeal if Utah went that route
