The Simpsons used to have a lot of dark humor. One of my favorite Grandpa moments that's difficult to find: Marge leaves the kids with Grandpa to "protect their innocent minds." Cut to him showing them an album of dead German soldiers his platoon killed. A disgusted Lisa then asks "How do you sleep at night?" and Grandpa replies nonchalantly "They drug us!"

Abraham was actually one of the best dads. He did all manner of jobs to support his family stayed loyal to a strung out hippie of a wife that cheated on him constantly and neglected their son. And you bring up the whole lying about his mother still being alive would you tell your kid the truth. That their mother didn't love them enough to put them first. Think about it crayon up the nose, sweets and overeating addictions are all signs of neglected child and Mona had one job.

I loved the episode where Abe Simpson rushed into Lisa's room with a wooden stake and mallet, saying 'Quick, we must kill the boy.' This was a Treehouse of Horror where a vampire Mr Burns turns Bart into a vampire, and Marge says 'How do you know he's a vampire?'. Abe Simpson yells quizzically 'THE BOY IS A VAMPIRE?!', and runs off.
