After doing several climbs with my ropeman ascender, I consider this a piece of essential gear and worth every penny. Climbing up and adjusting the prusik on the lineman’s belt can be tedious and often requires 2 hands. The Ropeman really does give you one handed operation and it’s FAST. It’s not really a hack, not necessary, but so nice to have if you can swing the $

Something else to consider to keep your tether from slipping is a small Nite-Ize twist tie. I used to the do the girth hitch but there were times it was a pain in the butt to deal with if I needed to move my tether. The twist tie with one wrap holds it in place and I can still move things quickly.

My Hunting walking stick is a 4---12 foot extension pole which allows me to hang my heavy duty tree hook on any good branch in 20 foot reach for me, and well you saddle guys know how to use a step on a rope man 1, if not I'll be doing a demo soon. @NextStepOutdoors a celebrity has to tell the followers it's cool. I have been doing what is now called saddle hunting for at least 30 years now. Back then, I could use spikes. I climbed with the spikes and a tether to a homemade harness. They outlawed spikes on public land, and I had to adapt. The 2 tether was a natural progression from spikes. It's actually better than spikes now that the system is fully developed.

Not every state forbids screw in steps on public land. Every KZbinr that talks about saddle always says you can’t use screw in steps or hooks on public as if it’s a universal law, which it’s not. It’s perfectly legal where I live to use screw ins.

I don’t recall where I said anything about that but in either case, this is my set up even when I hunt private land. You couldn’t pay me to sweat my butt off screwing in steps. Would much rather use light weight climbing sticks and gear straps that take a few seconds to wrap around the tree.
