I have had none of the issues he has on my nexus 6 ive been using for around 2 months now, not once have I had a wifi issue, and I connect to Wifi all the time so... idk what that is about I really don't know why he was so negative about this phone, it is the best phone (in my opinion) I have used in a long time, and I have used a LOT of phones so i really don't understand where all the negativity comes from I still enjoy your show Linus, no respect lost or anything, but I really don't think the issues you mentioned were large enough for the tirade and shit review you gave the phone overall but that is just my opinion

No. Just no. The Nexus 6 and 6+ have the same problems, and the Nexus 6 is still arguably better bar the camera. Both are a waste. Get a G3 or Note 4.
@mygetrichslowplan
@mygetrichslowplan 9 жыл бұрын
tbh, I don't think the 6+ is a good alternative. If someone was already looking at android devices, a much better recommendation is the Note 4. It's similar in size, similar in features, and most importantly, it uses the same OS. Plus, the 6+ has it's own host of issues, the most grave of all being that it's using an operating system designed to be used with one hand on a small screen on a device that is too large and unwieldy to use with one hand. And no, squishing the screen down to the bottom half so you can reach a back button is not the solution.

Mike I don't think you get the picture of a value. Let's say you could buy an iPhone with a contract for $1⃣ that is extremely good value. Let's say you could buy a grain of sand for 400 gold bars. That's horrible value. So when you lower the price it doesn't mean that the quality of the product will be better it will be worse. Bang for your buck. Peace 💯

***** Even though T-Mobile is in most of the Europe, neither they or other carriers offer unlimited plan. I have an unlimited plan because of corporate deal, but I don´t like to be dependent on my connection. Even thou its LTE or HSPA most of the time, sometimes, when I´m out of populated areas, it can go down to EDGE and that is to slow for pretty much everything. Plus, if u r moving fast, for example in a train, phones perform worse, because they have to reconnect to other nodes ;-) .

Wow, honestly for the first time I have to say Linus just sounded like a whining child in this review, especially being a techie. But I digress, if you want a REAL review, go to xda and see how people are enjoying the nexus 6 and all it has to offer. Half his complaints, if he took all of 2min to look something up or try another app, you know, something android is very useful for to alleviate his "complaints" he'd would pass on half of them. The camera issue, download another camera app, don't moan about the stock app and sit in a corner and cry. The calendar month view, took me 5 seconds to click the month and boom, month view. I bet he doesn't even know about half the tweaks to this phone, yes it's being marketed to the masses, but the main people that want this phone actually understand that android is the tinkers os, not the hand me everything because I'm too lazy to think outside the box os. And just his comment about saying he'd rather have the oem skin on Android just shows he never appreciated a pure android device in the first place. And the minute he talked about giving the older nexuses/nexi a pass because they were cheap, he lost credibility in my book, the nexus 6 is in a different playing field....rant over, I'm glad I went nexus, the 6 is amazing and will only get better with updates, something Linus really doesn't understand apparently.

Ernest Lim and I completely understand that, but for this type of phone and the fact that 5.0 or 5.0.1 for most people is a BRAND NEW os and completely redone in a different way compared to the older versions of android. because literally all his complaints were software related, things that can be changed via updates, rom changes, a different app and much more. These key points are know by the vast majority of people who actually like the nexus 6 and understand the core of android. It just seemed like he just wanted to hop on the hate nexus 6 bandwagon that seems to be a trend lately as you can see by a lot of the comments. I mean come on, soooo many comments just say "I hate it because it's big, should have been smaller" if you don't like big phones, why are you even worried about this type of phone. Stick with the nexus 5.

CuddlesTheLemur I'm not saying it fixes anything, I'm saying there's other options, just like any other android phone before it. Seems like all of Linus's complaints were all software based, better yet Lollipop bugs and UI screw ups. Not a true fault of the hardware. I'm already running 5.0.2 (Slim) and it's a completely different phone already... I even have UI tweaks for the large screen like PIE controls. The software is where this device is not up to par simply because OEM's put more effort into it. While the N6 is just a bone-stock device. And for ~ $600 there really aren't better devices out there, name one phone that matches or beats the N6 spec for spec under $650. There are zero, at least from "brand names" And yes... You shouldn't have to flash a custom ROM to get the some of the same "standard" features as other devices, but we do have to remember this is a freaking Nexus, they are practically made for that haha. So I guess you could say: Nexus 6 - Stock = Solid device but not the best. Nexus 6 - Custom = Best overall device currently on market.

Dear Linus, thank you for giving us reviews with your honest opinion on the products you review. Honest reviews are much appreciated. Especially when they're brutally honest. Sometimes reviewers seem a little biased, or reluctant to point out the flaws in a product. They only focus on the features available, and not how those features are to use. 2 years back I built myself a new PC, and I did my homework. I wantched and read dozens and dozens of reviews on the various parts. On the particular case I settled on I must have watched 4 or 5 different video reviews and read 2 more on respectable hardware reviewing sites. None of those reviews mentioned that the right side panel can NOT even be fitted if you use normal Sata and Sata-power cables. No, for my case, you need to buy right-angled Sata cables, and those right angled Sata power cables that Silverstone makes. If you use normal standard cables, as you normally would, you can never close the case. None of those reviews ever mentioned that the hard drive trays are loose and vibrate in the case. And when you fit 2 or more hard drives that turn on the same speed (5400rpm, etc) the vibrations start to amplify eachother and generate a very annoying pulsating noise. This was a silent case that scored superbly in noise reduction according to several reviewers ... I guess they didn't bother to actually put a build in there, or simply didn't bother to mention the faults. Anyway, that is why I appreciate it when a reviewer is honest about a product, and tells us what is good, and what isn't good about it. By the way, I detest smartphones. And touchscreens too. That is (still) the most annoying HID. If it doesn't have proper keys, then I don't want it. (yes, I do own a smartphone, what else is there? And it isn't my first one either). I've got 3 computers at work, and another one at home. I've got internet acces all day, every day. Proper internet. No shady intermittant wifi or 3G. I don't even want to be online with my phone. 3G or 4G? I switch it off. What do they expect of me? That I surf the web while I'm driving to work? Do I need to check me email while I'm out for groceries? That's not what a phone is for. At least not for me. It's for phonecalls and texts. Satnav is usefull. A camera can be usefull too. And I do appreciate a good MP3 player. But all of the other features are just annoying overhead and fluff that is in the way of a phone actualy being a good and usefull piece of equipment. Don't get me started on tablets. I have no use for them, none what so ever. Internet on the couch? Looking at a filthy greasy unresponsive touchscreen with fingerprints, grime and whatever all over it ... But why? My PC is just 10ft away. I need internet on the couch as much as I need it on a phone. Boo tablets! Boo smartphones! Boo! My apologies for turning this into a rant, but the whole concept of a 'smartphone' is just so stupid. Please give me a 'dumbphone', those are much better phones. Im calling it! You're reading it here! The Sony Ericsson W550i (2005), BEST PHONE EVER. The last of the proper phones. Just before all of the smartphone touchscreens nonsense took off. Excellent keypad, superb MP3 player, excellent UI, superb built in stereo speakers, even better optional external speakers, very very very good FM receiver with outstanding reception and very quick channel search, very usefull flashlight, programmeable shortcut keys into your adress book or whatever you'd like to use them for. Never been bested spring loaded slide lock/unlock key on the side. 2 full weeks of battery juice with normal use. Today it's 24 hours if you're lucky. 8 hours battery life whilst playing music at full volume through the speakers (great for working in the shed). Much longer if you use headphones (train or any other public place). Bluetooth that actually worked, including file transfer! File transfer over bluetooth! Thake that Android! Slow as heck, but at least it was possible. You could actually share your MP3s among friends ... o wait ... I think that's frowned upon these days ... I never shared nothing with no one! The W550i did have EDGE and a built in browser. But guess what, internet on your phone was silly even back in '05, so I switched that off too. The camera was pretty bad. Not a good camera. I want THAT phone again, with maybe a few updates. Aside from Satnav and a microSD flash card, I don't want any new features. Ok, perhaps a notepad-like text editor so I can make notes and store usefull stuff like my SSN or a grocery list. Does that Nexus 6 even fit in your pocket? Nexus 6, Iphone 6, Galaxy Note, cargo pants or bust.

It's called an App, download it. There are quite a few free high rated multi tasking apps on the play store. Remember this is stock Android, the key word being 'stock'...so build it. If you're not going to build it then enjoy what ever phone you prefer but try not misleading other viewers because you feel Vanilla Android is becoming lame. Vanilla by definition means - when not customized from its original form. Realize the Note 4, HTC, Sony, etc. has been customized on top of Vanilla Android but you could easily do the same with the Nexus. If you don't want to customize and want to rely on this to be done for you by the Manufacture then Nexus is not for you but if you enjoy tinkering or rooting or creating your phone in the way you want then Nexus is the way to go but again it's left to you to add what ever multi tasking apps, boot loaders, launchers, etc. that you want. It's stock (Vanilla)...so build it!

Seth Parr You sir deserve more upvotes. I'm liking you more and more after every comment you make. Android was created for customization, it embodies the "hacker spirit". Nothing excites me more than forming and building my own experience, figuring out and controlling the OS. Android is literally and figuratively the mobile Linux, which is in my opinion the most fun OS in modern circulation(but not the most productive...). Those people who view this as 'boring' or 'unprofessional' simply do not understand the spirit of hacking. And that is where the success of Apple, Samsung, HTC, et cetera is based on.

Most of the reviews of the Nexus 6 have been positive, and I really love how Linus just completely changed my outlook on the device. Many of these nit-picky little things, actually affect user experience quite a bit, and most tech reviewers overlook them. I love the 2013 Nexus 7, but I still hate the button placement. Great job on the review Linus. One more thing, absolutely love the new outro animations, and your lollipop themed animations in the whole room water cooling project :)

I've been using the 32GB Nexus 6 for almost a month, I bought it for christmas and I just don't get/don't have most of the problems which Linus had in the video. I don't get your problem with the lock button and volume rocker. I can even use them when the phone is in my pocket. Yes the camera is a bit frustrating but only because the interface I don't like the fact that it remembers your last chosen option but apart from that when you've been using an older and cheaper phone like I did and buy yourself this, you'll be satisfied with the camera itself. It is not slow -at least- for me although I'm a heavy user (background apps) and it makes perfect pictures overall in my opinion. I did not have any difficulties with the wifi although we have the worst wifi in the whole wide world, so maybe its just your review unit. Keyboard. I think that this is the best android keyboard yet. I can type way faster than on my old phone or on my BlackBerry (and BB has really good native keyboard). Multitask button. Really Linus? If I know it correctly the order of these 3 buttons have not changed in ages. I haven't had a phone in my life with the on-screen buttons (I had a 1st gen Samsung Galaxy Ace and a BlackBerry Z10) but I know what they do and I got used to it really quickly. Also you don't buy a phone like this to your mother. My only problem with the phone is that when I'm using it one-handed I can hardly reach the multitask button. That's all... yet. In my opinion whoever switches from a lower category phone to this will be really satisfied, and I think generally the phone is better than you've presented it in this video. And I know your style, I've been watching your videos and been on the forum for a really long time. (Sorry for accidental spelling errors)

Nexus phones were supposed to be for people that want to enjoy pure Android, that want to mess with the core, for techies, it was never about the hardware, hence the cheap price. But now that Google got everyone to the "cool" side, they thought they could rival other manufacturers by releasing a phone and price of today's standards. My opinion this is the worst Nexus to date, not spec wise, the overall package.

So am I listening things wrong or what? On the Mac review having to use a tool to run software from Windows is not problem, the tool is even considered a positive... But on the Nexus 6 having multiple free camera options right on the platform's app store is detrimental to the point of going on a rant? Would it make things better if you had to pay 14 to fix it? I'm also not a fan of the Nexus 6, it was a step on the wrong direction for the Nexus line. I would much rather see a Nexus device more in line with the One M8 for example than this weird pallet but come one... Let's be, at the very least, coherent with our dislikes.

Swiping down on lock screen notifications is derived from swiping down on them previously to expand. The Overview button (the old recents/square) is the new open tabs icon for chrome. The keyboard can be changed back to holo dark and light as well as the much better dark material in settings (touch and hold the comma to get there quickly). A restart button would be 100% redundant clutter. The camera isn't the best, but it's not bad either once you fiddle with the settings (not many in Google camera, i know, it's crap) and learn how to use it more.

Don't agree with the restart button being clutter. I don't see how the word clutter can come into play when holding down power, something seldom done and seperate from normal system functionality. Also the camera is terrible when compared to other flagships which cost comparable amounts. It's not terrible in the sense you can take photos and view them. But most friend's who upgraded at a similar time to a flagship other than the Nexus 6 will have better looking Facebook timelines than you.

I understand Linus's complaints, however, I do believe that these few problems (including the stock camera app) could be fixed with a few updates. Linus did mention about how this is Google's first phone to run Lollipop and that it shouldn't have any of these problems or bug, but look at iOS 8... Many problems that needed to be solved at launch.

I actually think the buttons are great, too - clicky, tactile and I've never once hit volume when I intended to lock or vise-versa. I've found the camera app extremely fast and simple, although Linus' comments on quality are spot on - and I've also found Lollipop absolutely flawless to date. Not a single bug has cropped up, even the WiFi issue mentioned.

Anyone that has done simple research knows that the nexus line of devices is for those that are Power users and are interested in having a company give you a canvas and you as the user create whatever it is that you want on it. Google does not want you to stick to just as given, but experiment and give it your own personal touch. If you are a person that does not want the latest and greatest right away and want that open canvas to create your own experience, then stay very far away from nexus devices. Linus never understood the intention of what a nexus device is for. It is definitely not for the general public.

I am having the phone for 3 weeks now and I can verify the wifi issues. But the point to be noted that, the problem only exists only over 5GHz wifi band not 2.4GHz. I ordered a replacement and that even didn't fixed it completely. But,now I don't have to reboot every time it disconnects. Now I just have to mash the wifi icon couple of time to get it back up and running after every disconnect. No the contrary my first Nexus 6 screen would go very much pink while the brightness was turned down all the way. That seems to be somewhat fixed with the replacement handset. And one word directly to linus, you were way too grumpy this time. More than you are allowed to be as a tech reviewer. And for this reason you have skipped two glaring issues with the Nexus 6. 1) The Screen Dimming Issues 2) The Screen Burnin Issue I would still like to know if your Nexus 6 had them or not.

Lol at all the people here saying that "he could just fix the problems with 3rd party apps".... He's not reviewing the 3rd party apps, he's reviewing the phone as Google intended it to be. He's reviewing stock out-of-the-box Android. He shouldn't need to go and install a 3rd party app for every single short coming of Google. He's reviewing this from the perspective of someone that doesn't know about 3rd party apps, or rooting, or ROMs, or any of that shit. Just saying.

Most of the problems about the Nexus 6, with the exception of the vibration (it's way too loud), have been fixed. You do bring up some nitpicks like the multitask button (which I actually like). And while it's been just a year since the price has gone down to $200 - $250. Clearly worth the money now, and clearly better than other budget phones around the same price. A lot of the problems were in lollipop, and marshmallow is smooth as butter, hardly any lags at all. (btw hold down the power button to restart it's very easy and a lot less prone to accidental touches imo)

I don't know if this was mentioned already but, month view in the calendar app is there, they just moved it. Tap on the month itself. There's a little arrow there which I suppose was supposed to be intuitive enough for people to catch that its expandable but I guess not in all cases. As for the rest of your comments there are a few I agree with, especially for that premium price tag you'd expect a bit more polish. I wonder if the wifi issue is isolated to the nexus 6 or more specifically the model you were testing. I'm running lollipop on a nexus 4 for the last few weeks without any said issues.

I wasn't stoked to see watch this video, I knew Linus was going to tear the Nexus 6 to shreds. I am as much of a Google fanboy as iSheep are for Apple and i-devices. I was very very excited for the Nexus 6 and was so ready to upgrade from my Note 3 to it. I was very very torn between the Note 4 and the Nexus 6. One day I was 100% decided on the Note 4, the very next day I was 100% decided on the Nexus 6. After the smoke cleared, I decided on the Note 4. I haven't had any regret with this decision, for a lot of the reasons that Linus listed, among others. One reason that Linus didn't mention was, the curved design on the back is great for ergonomics, but horrible when laying on a table and try to type on. The curved back made it wobble around and made texting while being on a table almost impossible. In the end, from what I could see, the only thing that the Nexus 6 had over the note 4, as far as hardware is concerned is the front facing speakers. People argue that the Nexus 6 receiving updates quickly is a check in its favor, Which I wouldn't argue with, but they go on to say that touchwiz on Samsung devices is horrible. To that I shrug my shoulders and say I use the Nova Launcher which fixes 98% of my beef with touchwiz.

As someone who has used stock android since 2.2, i actually agree with Linus. Stock is supposed to be simple reference for android, but this time they have cut so many corners to make it even more simple that they hid essential options under menus. Sure the camera ui looks really clean now, but it's a huge hassle to change options. On Nexus 5, you can only see 5 days at a time in the week view. Way? Since when did a week become 5 days? Why did they replace the newline button with a emoji button in hangouts? Why couldn't they have the emoji button at the side like in old hangouts so you could have both? And who's idea was it to remove lines between the letters on the keyboard? It just makes typing less accurate. I like the animations, battery improvements and speed enhancements makes lollipop great, but I just feel like I'm less productive in lollipop. If they would make the camera worth its price and done some design changes, it would be a flawless phone but currently it's really not worth 600$

Part of reviewing is about talking about Pros and Cons, but not whining about them incessantly. Linus, I have been watching your reviews for a long time now and this is the first to make me upset because of your lack of understanding on what it is your reviewing. U have a right to your opinion but man, do u not understand what nexus means? It's not for people who want a phone that is made perfect for them, it's for people who know how to make the phone work the way they want it to. All it takes is a little effort and 90% of your complaints can be fixed with the touch of a finger. I really thought that wouldn't be too hard for a person like u but now I realize why u like the iPhone so much. It's not a bad thing though, some people just want everything done for them and that's why u don't need a nexus. U need to seriously stop with the whiney voice though, it can destroy eardrums in a few seconds. I think allot of people including myself thought u would understand how to use a nexus but maybe u should just stay away from reviewing them from now on. Have fun at CES.

The amount of ignorance in your comment is astounding. A phone that costs $650 cannot have as many problems as Linus was showing us. There are many other phones at this price point or cheaper that have all of these problems figured out. Who cares what a Nexus device is "meant" for as you say. This is a high end smartphone. And it better damn well be a good phone for how much it costs. And no, the majority of the problems he was stating could not be easily fixed, I'd like to see you mod a restart button into Lollipop. Yeah good luck with that. Nexus has been popular and given the go ahead because it was always cheap. All of the past Nexus devices were excellent value options, not options for people who want to customize their phones in the way they want. Everyone customizes their phone in the way they want, not because its a Nexus device. Don't defend a device based on opinions that are clearly wrong.

SnypeUXD well here we are again. the main point of my comment is to say that the things he pointed out are only problems to people who dont know how to fix them. you said good luck with getting a reboot button on lollipop, well i dont need luck because its as simple as going into power toggle and turning on reboot and many other ways to do it. the nexus is a developer phone for developers who want stock android with high end components and no touchwiz or other skins on top. that is my whole point here, its not a problem if u know how to use your operating system and most people who buy a nexus phone know how android works. his review is like me saying, this ferrari is supposed to be a manual paddle shift but i didnt hit the button to turn it on so i complain that it doesnt work. look i know this sounds weird to people who dont understand android, but the tinkering with the os is what the phone is made for and people like u and linus and many others dont want that so why even bother to try it out. there are plenty of phones out that are more suited to people who dont hang out on xda, but for me and thousands of others its a great phone if u know what u are doing. last point on this is that nexus is for a certain type of community and people including myself shouldnt be surprised when the people its not meant for , dont understand why we love it.

I was only the fence about this phone because of the size, and the battery life. I have to say that I absolutely LOVE the size! This phone isn't to big, everyone else's phone is to small. If you are in the market for a phone like this, the biggest thing to consider is the size, everything else is literally perfect. Go see it in person first. Battery life is also really, really good, I have no problems. And to address the camera, it doesn't really matter at all! It takes pictures, and If I wanted perfect pictures I'd use a real camera. And to address the power/lock buttons issue... the case I have has a little dimple to differentiate, so It's not and issue in anyway. Honestly I'm just going to stop now, literally all of these complaints are so unreasonable. I've had the thing since it came out and noticed none of this things that he complained about. WiFi in Lollipop is a huge issue. On my Nexus 4 the WiFi setting is slow and laggy to load up when the rest of the settings load instantly. It's the one thing that slows my phone to a screeching halt every time. The camera app does indeed suck as well. I'm surprised Linus didn't mention Smart Lock, especially considering he has a Pebble. Basically, when your phone is connected to a set Bluetooth device, or is near a specified location like home or work, it will disable your passcode. To me, this is one of the best things about the update, but I wouldn't be surprised if he missed it entirely as you need to know what you're looking for.

Linus TechTips Many of your complaints are valid, but you're wrong about the buttons though. The simple shaped buttons are easier to give instructions, not harder. There's a reason why game consoles that requires tons of tutorials use cases use simple shapes for their controllers. Press 'circle' to do this, press 'square' to do that. If you say press 'home' that home shape can be ambiguous, and is indescribable except being 'house' shaped. Its just simple user experience logic, but many seems to not get it and think it is purely for aesthetics purpose.
