So much Android fanboyism here lol. Wish people were more like Linus and had intelligent things to say based on realism. That being said, nothing wrong with Android. Especially that sexy One M8.
@LUCKO202210 жыл бұрын
You want intelligent. Fine. I prefer freedom on my devices and Android offers that pretty much out of the box. I don't like a company telling me what I can and can't have on MY device I paid for. If I want emulators on my phone, why can't I as long as the roms are included with the app they are legal. But Apple says nope. I also don't like being treated like I am a child, and that is all Apple has done since the very beginning is treat the end user like a damn child since everything is so dumb down. Android offers more apps, more freedom, I don't need to sync to iTunes just to put music on my phone. I would rather be dead than have ANY Apple device, which is why I will NEVER,EVER buy a thing from them.
@ImbaSoulDC10 жыл бұрын
That's all fine and good and that's your opinion. But saying another product is sh*t because it doesn't aquire to your tastes is pure immaturity and childlike. Whether it's Android fanboys, Apple fanboys, PS/Xbox/Cola/Peps/Intel/AMD/Nvidia... you name it. If you call other products sh*t because you don't like them, and tell others that those products are sh*t, then that's a fanboy. If you love a product and keep an open mind about others, but stay with one over another, then that's a fan. And today there are only a few fans, and a bunch of childish fanBOYS.
@LUCKO202210 жыл бұрын
+1 dBFS I know their products are shit. I have used them so I know they are junk. Apple has always made stuff for Mickey Mouse children that needs their hands held on everything. They can't handle a real computer or a real tablet or a real phone. They need their hands held so they won't learn anything. No fucking wonder computers aren't like they were when I was a kid.You actually had to know how to fucking use one, it took brains.

I use apple products. my main development computer is a mac. not because "I need my hand held" but for user interface work, and the flexibility of development environments, I find osx to be superior to windows. The point is, just because the products doesn't fit your needs doesn't mean that there are not other areas where other people might love.

A lot of your complaints are addressed easily by a jailbreak. Problem is, you shouldn't HAVE TO jailbreak to make the phone more usable. Like come on, you can't edit the quick toggles? You can't set a default browser/mail/map application? I use Mercury Browser which is the best on iOS imo, but its too bad that nothing opens into it by default. Apple really has to focus on adding customization options in their iOS updates instead of a new skin. And don't hate on me for complaining, I use an iPhone 5 everyday, its my only phone. But my upgrade is in November and I'm not sure what I want to do at this point. Next iPhone? Or an Android device?

One thing I wished Google Now had was the ability to control system settings like Siri could and that was my only gripe with it. It was however VERY fast and VERY accurate, must faster than Siri in my experience though Siri was pretty much just as accurate. Both Google Now and Siri worked great for me, but I think overall Siri is ever so slightly better. For now, at least.

I love my Windows 8 phone, everything on it is very simple and the "Here Maps" and "Here Navigator" work amazingly, running from satellite and using almost no data at all, they also include a very accurate speedometer, and the speed limit of the road you travel on. you can also change the view to a google earth type mode
@adriansnetwork10 жыл бұрын
Disagree, G Now is much better in speed, functionality, accuracy (Siri is racist over my dialect) and data.
@ThomasAlex10 жыл бұрын
Speed: it's just a phycological thing, just because G Now type entries as you speak you think it's faster. Of course one might take more time over the other in some situations but it averages out to almost 0 difference Functionality: G Now just plain sucks. All it does is just google what I say. Heck it can't even play my music which is the main reason why I use a personal assistant in the first place Accuracy: Both are same The the only thing I like about G Now is that it's partially hands free (Okay Google)
@adriansnetwork10 жыл бұрын
Thomas Alex You're right about that the speed can vary but in my experiences Siri is slower answering my questions. I'm not that basic. Functionality: I don't know your experiences but it can play music, just say Play some music??? And the rest it handles just fine, better than Siri. Accuracy, I must speak like a robot for Siri to recognise. Although its improved in IOS7, it can't match up to G Now. But at the end, these are our experiences and there isn't the "Best".
@ThomasAlex10 жыл бұрын
I've tried 'Play Trumpets', 'play trumpets song' and it just doesn't work. When I say 'play some music' it just opens the app. Unless you have a Scottish accent (even I can't understand properly, no offence) or something, it should work
@Cappurnikus10 жыл бұрын
Thomas Alex play trumpets works for me. Not to seem argumentative but I just thought you should know that your specific examples seems to be working for me. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for you.
@skifree010 жыл бұрын
Speed really is just one aspect of a great voice system. The idea behind siri was an excellent broad interpretation, that allowed people with no knowledge on the keywords how to use it. It's just easier to use, and I don 't have to remember how to use it like google now. and then theres the annoying part that Google now just can't access system level settings like turning off Bluetooth. It will pop you into the settings app, but can't actually turn it off.

As someone who has always been Android only, I loved this video. I don't have a ton of insight into IOS so this was a great watch for me. For anyone wondering, I jumped into Android with the htc G2 since it had a keyboard and was a great stepping stone from the Sidekick LX 2009. Between no battery pull, no expandable memory, no keyboard (which doesn't matter anymore), and limited customization options.. I have never felt inclined to make the switch. Plus I have giant hands. xD At the end of the day though it's all about the user experience and I get more of what I'm looking for with Android.. not because it's better, but because it's a better fit for me. For example, bigger screen is on my pro list, but it might be on your con list. Cheers!

Yeah, Apple’s premium devices are expensive. Apple will probably never sell billions of cheap phones to users in poor countries. But with Apple you get what you see; there’s none of Google’s fake altruism. Lots of the products shown at Google I/O were clearly copied from Apple. Android’s new Material design UI looks like iOS 7 with shadows; Android now supports 64-bit CPUs; Android TV and Android Auto are straight-up clones of Apple TV and CarPlay. The only original thing - details about the new Android Wear platform - appeared unfocused and underwhelming. Showing off myriad functions of wrist-worn computers just demonstrated that, like Samsung, Google still hasn’t figured out good reasons why you’d want to wear a computer on your wrist. We’ll see what Apple comes up with later on this front, but the long-rumored iWatch will likely focus on health and exercise. Tellingly, most of Google’s presenters wore smartwatches - but not one of them wore Google Glass, which may or may not signal that Google is about to kill the headgear of choice for “Glassholes.” Those wearing Google Glass in the audience looked like they didn’t get the memo. At the end of two hours, everyone was flagging. And as the keynote rounded its second hour, someone joked on Twitter: “Will no one stand up and yell that this is going on for too long?” At this point, the most revealing moment transpired. Eric Schmidt was introduced, but instead of Google’s chairman, an unknown engineer walked out. It perfectly encapsulated the WTF aura of the event. In the end, the lineup of products looked like a hastily thrown-together imitation of Apple’s pipeline; any unity was marred by protesters; reporters had fallen asleep; Tim Cook had gone hiking in Yosemite; and somebody had already mocked up a T-shirt that captured the mood at the end of the ponderous presentation. “I sat through a 3 hour Google IO Keynote and all I got was a crappy watch.” That and an unfiltered peek at Google’s unfocused, unoriginal and slightly soiled soul.

I was in the same boat. I have been using Android phones since the original Droid on Verizon. I switched to the iPhone 4s for about a year. It definitely has some awesome features that you don't get on an Android phone and vice versa. I mostly loved the one handed operation and the iMessage feature. I now am the proud owner of an HTC One M8 and still find myself picking up my girlfriends iPhone 5s and playing around with it. For the simplicity and the favorited features of the iPhone, are the only reason why I would switch back. I just feel that I get so much more at the same cost from Android, hands down. If only they could improve the battery life and speaker situation of the iPhone, would it be worth the cost to me.

I know the panel's firmware can be updated, but not sure if that's possible through jailbreak tweaks, etc. Don't get me wrong I like both iOS and Android, but I just think you get more freedom with Android. also iTunes is a pain in the bum, I know that's solved by jailbreaking. But there are users who want to keep their warranty, just saying.

He's talking about a stock phone he's not talking about a jail broken iphone or a flashed android. Why can't Apple remove all the restrictions? Why should you have to jailbreak just to put a damn icon where you want it. Apple need to step up. I don't hate apple I love my ipad but the same stuff for 7-8 years does get old.

Umm no not really lol andriod unrooted does everthing the iPhone does jailbroken my friend. I can download paid apps for free just by googling the apps name plus .apk or install a 3rd party app store like when a jailbroken iPhone had cydia. I can can explore sub folders and modify code I can install 3rd party video and audio codecs use multiple video and music players, change the gui and this is all possible on andriod without rooting the phone or tablet, sorry a jailbroken iphone looses all day to a stock andriod phone don't get me wrong I do like ios it definitely has its own strengths but your limited to what you can do and I hate that apple does this to their customers trying to control every aspect of what you do with your device that you paid for, shouldnt you truely own it and do as you please with it? but that's obvious considering the monopoly they have on accessories. Everything is iphone, iphone, iphone, don't believe me? go to Walmart or best buy and compare and make a ratio of companies who make assessories for Android and Apple and you will see that theres way more for apple and very limited andriod that says a lot to me I don't know about you.

Hey Linus, I am an iPhone 5S user and I have some strong feelings regarding the bottom mounted speakers. I would enjoy front mounted speakers *******but***** if it had only front mounted speakers, I would be at somewhat of a loss. The reason being I use my phone a lot as a music speaker. I have my phone inside an Otterbox case that comes with a belt clip. I often have it playing music while it's safely clamped onto my belt clip. I suppose I could have my phone face outwards with the belt clip because it is possible with my clip, but that would mean that I am exposing my screen as opposed the back of my Otterbox. I do keep earphones with me most of the time, but it is so much easier to use the speakers as opposed to putting on earphones when I'm ready to listen and tucking them away when I'm done (which happens quite often in my work day when I do decide to use earphones). I do recall in one of your bluetooth portable speaker videos (I think it was the waterproof one) that you referred to someone who would use the speaker for a personal boombox as a jerk. That is a tad disappointing but I find that function very enjoyable. I'll throw one example out, i find it more enjoyable to use my phone speakers to listen to music while walking my dog as opposed to my earphones.

WTF Linus are you serious? Siri is CRAP compared to Google Now, not only is it much faster but it gives you MUCH MUCH MUCH more information and its more customizable, and you talk about the only fucking thing it does not wanna do (for reason I cant understand why) is toggle switches? Who the fuck turns their Wi-Fi on by voice when you can swipe down and press a button and its done?

I won't ever use an iPhone because of its overpriced, underpowered hardware, and the plain lack of functionality in the software. Can you download music on an iPhone? No. Can you look at Flash elements on an iPhone? Nope. Can iPhones be customized IN ANY WAY whatsoever? Nope~ Sure, the build and the aesthetics are nice, but really. Android phones are cheaper, faster, and can do more. inb4 flamewar because I voiced my honest opinion

Having switched from an iPhone 4S to a Lumia 1520 with Windows Phone 8 I can agree with Linus that in so many instances you really want a physical (or capacitive)back button in your phone for the purposes of back navigation and app switching. Recently, I had to use an iPhone and it was one of those thing where I was saying "why Apple doesn't add this?" statements many times. As for feature parity yes iOS and Android have an advantage but from what I have seen with the Windows Phone 8.1 update that will be something that will be taken care of in many aspects. As for the UI of Windows Phone 8 vs. iOS, I must say that I prefer the Metro UI design over iOS because it is simple to use yet intuitive and powerful in options (and to some degree of beautiful). Off course I would like to state that the UI comment is from each one's perspective from experience and users will like and dislike some,elements of them because each user uses their phones differently. Just my two cents...

I don't know about the English speech recognition, but in German, Google is actually quite good an picks your words up perfectly most of the time. But I heard lots of complaints from iPhone users that Siri just doesn't work as well for them (in German). And i think, Google Now and Siri have different philosophys. Siri ist an assistant that tries to unterstand whatever you say. Google Now is a Search and Information center that also accepts some commands like navigation, taking notes and starting apps. Also it provides you with some information without even needing to ask for it.

If you want input on the figure and figures in general then I'd have to say that they are pretty neat. A lot of times they're hand-painted and very well made and can make a desktop have a lot more personality to it. I have a few myself, while I agree that they definitely aren't something for everyone, in the hands (or on the desk rather) of the right consumer they make things feel more personalized and interesting, I guess it could be compared to the people who do ultra-customized android homescreens. They're also really nice to buy if you like supporting developers and authors of the media they're from. If that Cheero figure had functionality as a battery though, I have no doubt it'd make waves in terms of sales.

In what way? Can a jailbroken iphone install custom versions of iOS? Thought not... When you root an Android device you can do ANYTHING you like to it. You could install a completely different OS on it if you so like, I installed Ubuntu Phone onto my device the other day.
@aChosenWon10 жыл бұрын
+TheYODA98 I don't see how it cannot. I've rooted a Samsung Behold 2, a myTouch 3G Slide, Galaxy S, S3, Note 2, Note 3, and I've jailbroken an iPhone 4/4S/5...a rooted iPhone gives you the best of Apple with all the customization and tweaks you want, while running very smooth, which is the reason I no longer waste time with Android devices. Every now and then you'll find a faulty app, but it's not often and you can just delete the app. Are there any ROMs available for Android that doesn't suffer from network/WiFi connectivity issues? It's so difficult to find a ROM that doesn't have some issue with it. Downloading a ROM and having to continually check if an update addressed the issue...downloading a ROM that's faulty/crashes...those were some annoying days... The thing about Android...so many things come off as unpolished and half baked.
@aChosenWon10 жыл бұрын
Joseph Richardson You can download themes that change the entire appearance of the OS, and tweaks that change everything about the OS you don't like...I don't buy an iPhone to run Ubuntu Phone or Windows Phone, or any other inferior mobile OS.
