Nez0's Bad Shoppe: MST MRX GT Constructor's Digest

Tips, infos, tricks and other notes along the journey of the building and completion of a RC car kit brought to you by Nez0 :D MST's next generation offering in 2022 is the MRX GT! This car is awesome out of the box and here I lay out my build process and things I noticed in the manual etc. The MST manual's are very well laid out and printed so you can see many things very clearly. There is some extra stuff at the back of the manual which is very helpful for first time builders. The manual's setup tune for the chassis works very well and I was super happy with the performance :D I recommend this car highly already and hope this video will help in your build process! Yissss :D I seen comments on the other MRX videos so will paste the same reply from those here just in case :) "It is a great chassis and parts have come back available just not all of them yet. Make sure to tighten the motor mount, motor and the pinion gear's set screw tight and use loctite to prevent the spur gear from getting killed. :)"

I really appreciate you making these videos. I just bought the MRX GT yesterday as my first drift car and got up to bag 9 in the assembly. Your build notes are super valuable so that people new to the hobby like myself don’t make huge mistakes and wonder why the car doesn’t work correctly. Now to pick a body. I’d love to do a Hyundai N Vision 74 concept, or GR Yaris.

Thanks so much for the in-depth walk through!! Mine is ordered and on the way. Did it ask to purchase a rear esc mount? I wasn’t sure I caught that… I would also want to try that mounting position…

This was the first kit I’ve built - purchased because I found this model on your channel! I’m 95% done…. Shocks felt supple and amazing… but when I threw wheels on, the ride height plummeted. Most electronics and battery are in except for a couple. Thoughts or suggestions? My last rmx did similar and I threw stiffer springs on the rear.

Awesome stuff! Glad my videos helped out :D Aww yiss the shocks...MST didn't specify how much shock preload to put when building up the shocks (Most manufacturer's don't wierdly). This is the collar ring that the spring sits on at the top of the shock. Rotate it downwards on the shock body until the ring is approx 3-4mm from the top of the shock body for all 4 shocks. I believe I ended up with 3.5mm preload front and rear...I will double check. Make sure to set the preload collar ring when all electronics and battery (and even body) to make sure the shocks operate nicely with car in 'ready to drive' state. This will give the spring the force it needs to support the car before the shock bounds/rebounds :)

I am trying to understand what you mean by "loctite" ... frustrating

Apologies...When I say "loctite" in a video in reference to screws I mean using "liquid threadlocker", blue colour. Loctite is a brand name over here and we tend to use it as the name for the stuff vs the actual term :)

How long would you say it took to build this kit?

Average drift car kit building time is anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to build the kit into a rolling chassis. The fastest I've ever built one myself is just under 4 hours but that was a non-stop building session.
