Wow...the fans at the stadium nor the viewers at home had any idea how significant that game was going to be.

Vin Scully should've been called The Super Bowl XVI on CBS instead of Pat Summerall and John Madden (Announcers #2)

Pat and John were the #1 team. Summerall got the #1 job after he and Vin each worked four games with John in 1982.

Montana is the best ever. Great game.

Back when the NFL was great. Every stadium looked different, grass was actually real grass, and the fans cared about their team not the concession stands. 40 years later and the NFL has totally lost it's way. I was a huge fan during the 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s. But I stopped caring and watching a long time ago. Ugly uniforms, cookie cutter stadiums, teams flip flopping cities, synthetic grass, and high definition tv all killed any sort of enjoyment I used to get. Today the game has become ugly to me, and I just can't watch it anymore.

you are 100% correct.

@@battlestarmarc The greatest quarterback of all time (Joe Montana) passing to the greatest receiver of all time (Jerry Rice) led by the greatest coach of all time (Bill Walsh). The only question is who was the greatest team of all time, the 1970s Steelers or the 1980s 49ers? Personally I'm leaning towards the 70s Steelers as the greatest team. They were loaded with incredible talent on both offense and defense, and led by a top coach in Chuck Knoll. Plus Steeler's fans in Three Rivers Stadium during the gritty 70s will never be surpassed.

you make sense. Altho, you left out pink ribbons littering the fields 50% of the regular season, and pink accessories/attire defacing the uniforms. And yes, definitely agree with you on the ugly uniforms. As for my love (former love), I didn't change, the game did.

One of the best things about the NFL in the 1970s & 80s was NFL Films. John Facenda and Harry Kalas supplying the commentary. and Fantastic original kick ass music. The players during this time were very fortunate. Their careers forever cemented in crystal clear slow motion. How do I know the NFL sucks now? Simple, even NFL Films gave up. They still cover the sport, but the magic is long over. I haven't seen anything from them in thirty years. I had to look them up to see if they're still in business.

No problem about your "traditionalist" view. But, your generational preferences had their time to shine. Did you really expect a business like the NFL to not evolve and accommodate to changes in social culture? Today's NFL dominates the ratings. So yes, the traditionalists should stop watching if they don't like it. Their time is done.
