True to some extent but in almost every case, the defender drops until the blade of grass are brushing his chest to get a nice, late hit in on the sliding QB. There's no reason they can't stay upright other than wanting to make a hit so badly they stop thinking.

They have a perfect reason to go low, the runners always lower their head when theyre about to take a hit. If the defender aims for the chest and runner lowers their head into it then it it also a penalty against the defender. The games rigged against them every which way

@@entr224 The human body has the head on top. If a person is going forward and bends at the waist, he will be going head-first. I don't know a way around the simple dynamic of the human physiology. In the example I gave, the tackler is going head-first but his head and shoulder hit Wilson at about the same time, neither body part directly hitting Wilson's helmet. I could argue that it is a sport where the speed and size of today's players have outpaced today's concern for safety.

@@420drobud I have heard that theory a number of times. I think today's players are selected for their abilities and playing styles to play football with the equipment. And the players themselves have a mindset of playing with equipment. So, I don't know if there's a way of turning back now. Another thought would be playing on a field surface that radically slows players. Then there is the idea of covering players with inflated pads so they would look like the Michelin Man with a big, bubble helmet.

Are you serious? Watch the play again, and look how close the defender was to the QB when he started to slide. He gave himself up when the defender was like 3 inches away from him, that's FAR too late. He didn't hit him in the head, and the QB slid far too late, it was 100% the fault of the QB
