Football and rugby fields are almost the same length - NFL is 11 yards longer, and rugby fields are 22 yards wider. One of the most underappreciated differences between NFL and rugby though is the intensity - the game is comprised of 2 40 minute halves, and play is very seldom interrupted. There are no timeouts or ad-breaks, breaks during play are kept as short as possible (usually less than a minute), and substitutions generally occur about halfway through the 2nd half and are limited to 7 players. These guys fitness and endurance is through the roof!

@@markdelange8892 kom nou… you know the AB’s are the best. We just happen to be world champs. But It’s undisputed that the AB’s are not just the best rugby team of all time, but statically, they are the best sporting team in the history of all sports. As much as we want to think we are the best, sadly, they are. But we are a very close second. I never write them off, no matter how terrible their form are.. it takes them 5 minutes to score 3 tries. We have that potential, but our Bok coaches over the last 20 years. Seems he’ll be t on forward Rugby rather than a combo of both forward power and running power. We can beat the AB’s. not many teams have that confidence… and we really are the only team they fear/respect Go Bokke

The game is 80min long, split into 2 halves of 40min each. Time is stopped for injuries and time starts when play resumes. What looks like a touch down is called a try. A try is 5 points plus 2 points if you get the kick over - known as a conversion. In the old days, a try was Nil but allowed you to have a “try” to kick the ball over the poles between the uprights for 3 points - hence it was called a try. The Springboks are the reigning world champions and the greatest team in the world.

When scoring you have to touch the ball (under control) down on the ground (which is where your touchdown got its name) but it is called a 'TRY'. If you are prevented from touching it down it does not count as a score even if you are over the try line. You get 5 points for a try plus a further 2 points if the conversion kick is successful.

The set piece at 5:12 is a scrum which is a method of restarting play after a minor infringement. In this one the Springboks very powerful forwards got the ball under control on their side and then pushed Argentina's set of forwards back over the try line to score a try. The next one at 5:26 looks similar but was a maul which can happen after a ball carrier is 'tackled' but is still on his feet and in possession of the ball. The players from both sides will go in to contest for the ball and if one side can start it moving it becomes a 'rolling' or 'driving' maul. Unlike a scrum, the ball in a maul is held off the ground by one of the players.

so when the teams looks intertwain it is called a scrum, it is after play went dead, the idea about it is you have to push the other team off the ball and you get to control it and attack with the ball, games have 2 halves, 40mins a side , 90mins in total

Take everything you know about American football, and throw it out the window. If you want to know rugby, read about it, watch it live, and play it (not that touch rugby bullshit). Almost Every person at a young age (mostly male when I grew up) be it the UK, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, etc. played rugby. I'm 31 and still have problems with my knee because of rugby, and I do not regret it. You will only truly understand rugby once you've played it.

On scoring a Try(Touchdown) rewards 5 points , then you have the convertion after the try( sort of like a field goal) that awards 2 points. Then you have a penalty kick which awards 3 points if successfull (Also like a field goal). Then you have drop goals that also award 3 points that are taken in open play and not in a structuted way that penalty and convertion kicks do.
@zabummer
@zabummer Жыл бұрын
Yes, these days a "try" is worth 5 points. Way back in the "good old days" of the true legends, a "try" was actually a "tri" - it was worth only 3 points then. The conversion was always 2 points. A penalty as well as a "free kick" during normal that went between the uprights are worth 3 points each. On the try - you can only score a try if you put the ball down in the end field area WHILE YOU HAVE IT UNDER CONTROL. Just carrying the ball into the area, or entering the area with the ball and then dropping it gets you nothing.
@gerardlaatz6865
@gerardlaatz6865 Жыл бұрын
When you score it's a try, when the ball is in play and the players are bound it's called a ruck, when play stops and the players bind it's called a scrum. Every try is 5 points after a try you need to kick the ball through the posts which will give you an additional 2 points.

The game is played 15 a side over two halves of 40 minutes each with a 10-15 minute break between; there are no other breaks and no timeouts, etc. The field at this level would be 100 metres (109 yards) long and 70 metres wide.

Watch a skills video. Rugby is more than hits. Complex fast passing like basketball. Kicking like football. You can kick and run to pick up the ball yourself. Team mates can pick up players high in the air for an intercept like a cheerleader. Driving the scrums. No downs. Yes also tackles. Because of all this this it is one of the most exciting ball games in the world.

You said at the beginning that you’d had a lot of comments after your first video and you now understood rugby. Well, whoever explained it did a terrible job if you don’t know now what scrums are for and that there are two halves, each of forty minutes. American Football is a development out of rugby and whilst many things are similar and there are terms that can be seen to derive from rugby eg touchdown and the line of scrimmage, why it seems difficult to appreciate that fundamental differences exist seems hard to appreciate. Not everything you do is copied, indeed as explained, your game developed from and changed from rugby. If you are interested I suggest looking at the laws (rules) of the game, videos are on KZbin, which will tell you more. I hope you do as I’m sure you’ll appreciate the sport for what it is, the best in the world!
