As a Browns fan who has watched officiating calls hurt the Browns at the worst possible times since 1999 (I gather to say that no other team has been more effected by this), it’s refreshing to see that it happens to other teams as well. Toney was clearly lined up in the neutral zone. At some level, I get Mahomes’ frustration at the officials call determining the outcome of the game (which is not what they are there to do). However, don’t put the officials in a position to have to make that call, and in this case, the infraction was so egregiously obvious. As for whether the Steelers long snapper committed an infraction, I don’t know how the rule is stated, so I won’t offer my opinion on that. What I will say is, that as a Browns fan, it’s nice to see Pittsburgh feel “cheated” out of a win due to a call by the officials, because there are countless occasions, both in my lifetime and otherwise, where the Steelers have won a game because of a well timed call (or no-call) by the referees.
@Icculus.11 ай бұрын
The last part is true of every team. Sometimes calls help, sometimes they hurt. It's easy to feel that your tam is being picked on, but I'd like to see some stats of proven bad calls that affect the Browns more than other teams. It's the BAD calls at the very end of the game that are the most frustrating to fans. I don't know what Mahomes was whining about. It's clear as day that he was offsides. I get frustrated, but he was trying to attack the ref. As for the Steelers, the center is allowed to lift his head, as long as he doesn't jerk it up. He lifted his head slowly and deliberately, like centers do all the time. This was a clear BS call that should have been offsides against New England.
@markantonelli5311 ай бұрын
@@Icculus. maybe saying they’re bad calls isn’t totally accurate. They seem to be obscure rules that are enforced at odd times that always impede the Browns success.

10:27 though I’m an offensive guy I really hate how the QB slide is officiated. They wait until the very last split second to slide while the defenders have to play it like he’s not going to slide yet by the moment the QB does slide it’s too late for the defender to withdraw his trajectory. While I hate more rules maybe there should be a halo rule for the QB slide. If he doesn’t give himself up before a defender is X yards away the defender can hit him.
@billrobelen494811 ай бұрын
That is why this play was no called. The rules state that the quarterback loses some protection when he slides late. This is similar to the change in emphasis on late hits out of bounds. At the beginning of this season, referees were told to watch for players running along the sidelines, and stepping out just before being hit. Calls had been made against defensive players in previous years, leading for them to let up near the sidelines. Due to complaints from teams during the off season, a point of emphasis was made to officials this year to correctly call this. If a player is running along the sideline attempting to gain more yardage, another player can make contact if the initial launch was when the runner was inbounds.

the NFL has established that suplex-ing a guy is not a legal tackle. We saw this with Greenlaw and Devonta Smith last week and in that case Smith still had the ball. And frankly, DK's supposed ignorance of whether or not Warner still had the ball doesn't matter - it's your job to know that a player has the ball before you tackle them. When has "I didn't know he didn't have the ball!" ever been a valid excuse for pass rushers hitting quarterbacks that have already thrown the ball???

As for the suplex if you wanna call that a suplex it was the weakest suplex in history. It illegal because peoples heads were smacking the ground, he picked him up and twisted sideways for the tackling part. Not over his back and dropping the dude on his head. In summary, its a bit weak to call that a suplex imo (though if that is the call I can understand it) and I've never seen a penalty for finishing a tackle before the whistle to stop, always play to the whistle. I also think the SF guy should have gotten a penalty for pushing a defenseless player down by the back of the head and he got nothing. If you're gonna eject for this it should have been #14 and #54 both gone and #2 still playing.

These refs have somehow reached a point where they're as bad as they were that year of the strike with the replacement refs.

I love how they blamed Warner. Like Metcalf didn’t get pissed and throw Warner down first.

That's called a tackle. What Warner did was a block in the back... Welcome to football
@ydevi1411 ай бұрын
@@BRlNGERofRAIN wasn’t a tackle. Dude didn’t have the ball. Metcalf’s emotions got the best of him as soon as he realized it was going to be intercepted. So he decided instead of tackling. Why not throw down the player who doesn’t have the ball anymore because I’m mad
@PS-ub3kt11 ай бұрын
@@BRlNGERofRAINactually you can’t block someone in the back if they are laying on the field. So get mad all you want that Fred jumped back up before DK so he could legally push him back down. As a Seahawks fan I’m guessing your not used to seeing what good football looks like 😂

I love how they disqualify players for literally the last five minutes of the game like that will teach them anything. At least make it apply to the next game if it’s that late of an ejection
@mmorehouse209411 ай бұрын
Players get fined for getting ejected directly losing around 20k. Coaches would also factor unecessary penalties into their evaluating process, possibly leading to less money or no contract all. These disqualifications definentely matter at some level.

some of these calls you cant call. How do they expect defenders to stop their momentum last second each play that turns out to be different than expected? Example, A DB trying to stop a QB on a run & doesnt seem to go for a slide until its too late. Now you hit them because you’re anticipating a full run? Ridiculous man let em play if theyre soft get them tf out the league smfh its embarrassing
