Never say never. There was a time when we thought Dan Marino's passing touchdown record would ever be broken. We was saying that no one will ever come close to 48 touchdowns. Now it seems like at least one QB throws almost 48 TDs a year.

Some records ARE impossible to break such as the longest pass (99 yards) and the longest run (99 yards) they can only be tied. An example of a record that's highly improbable to break though technically possible is Fred Dryer's record of two safeties in a game. The only person to do that. The most remarkable thing about his record is that he recorded these safeties in the SAME QUARTER on CONSECUTIVE possessions by his opponent. I doubt anyone will be recording three safeties in a single quarter.
@spencerlopes14828 жыл бұрын
lllexoduslll I'm not talking about longest run or pass those are limited by the dimensions of the football field so they'd have to expand it for it to be broken but I'm sure someone will get three safeties in a game on consecutive plays it will happen

Barry Sanders lost more yards from scrimmage than any other running back in NFL history. He was exciting. He was difficult to bring down. But when you get pulled on third and short or on goal line, it's difficult for me to say he's the best. I do think that had he stayed in the league and allowed his career take its course. He would've had all the rushing records. But Jim Brown, Walter Payton, or Emmitt Smith were never pulled in goal line or 3rd/ 4th and short. Just saying
@Beardmohbox8 жыл бұрын
I get your point but that speaks just as much in favour of Sanders, he broke 2,000 yards despite also losing something like 200 yards that season, and he wasn't bad in goal line situations. In his first 3 years he scored 47 TDs, 21 came from within 4 yards to the goal line and 8 were 1 yard out, that doesn't scream inefficiency but he was pulled out later in his career but considering how he actually played it was more likely coaching philosophy not his ability. There is no one answer to who is the best, this is just my opinion and I'm happy other people think otherwise.
@buffalo1d8 жыл бұрын
Edgar Melucci. He lost yards from no blocking. just look at the highlights, how many times as soon as he got the hand off there was literally a guy there at the same time and they couldn't touch him and those are just the ones shown. Goal line they should have used him sweep everytime would have been t.d. The coaches didn't know how to use him.

Basically league exec's across the nation know that if you hand your running back the ball HALF or more of the game, the only thing you can be certain of is a player who by seasons end, will murder his spouse and possibly postal workers. Legend has it Emmit was used as the Guinea pig during an untelevised exhibition game to test the theory. After carrying the rock 48 times, scientists noted he looked hungry, and crazed. Emmit proceeded to nourish his hunger with medium-rare steak loins, at which point observers called the experiment off, noting the dangers presented to everyone around while he was blood thirsty and crazed. After giving him a Tylenol PM he went to bed and woke up without any recollection of turning into OJ. the end

While I think it'll be broken at some point, I'm completely amazed that Norm Van Brocklin's 554 passing yards in a single game is still standing. Considering that he set the record in 1951 is even more incredible, considering the rules at the time. Though to be fair, defenses were more adjusted to defending the run rather than the pass, so that can be held against that. However, I'd love to see what it would've been like if Van Brocklin played in the modern pass-happy NFL era.

I think the record of most 1000 yard rushing seasons to begin a career is one that won't be broken. Barry Sanders and Curtis Martin both started their careers with 10 consecutive 1000+ yard seasons. Sanders only played those 10 seasons and Martin played 11. Just goes to show how hard it is to even play 10 years as a running back, let alone be an effective starter for that long.

The best runner from scrimmage ever was Jim Brown. Sanders may have been the most elusive. But when you consider every aspect of what being a running back means, from catching passes to running between the tackles, from getting the tough yards to breaking the long runs, from throwing a halfback pass to obliterating a blitzing linebacker, the best football player I have ever seen, apologies to your choice Jerry Rice, was Walter Payton. When he started, he didn't have much of a team around him. When he retired, he was the all-time leading rusher. When he retired, he held the record for most yards in a game, and had one of the top 5 single season marks. His records have since been broken a few times, but the guys that have done it weren't the total package that he was. I have always taken a pass on comparing Payton to Brown, because in truth I did not see Brown play at the time like I did with Sweetness, only through video. Payton was the greatest RB I have ever watched play.

Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50PPG & 25REB ( you're bugging if u think someone is sniffing that record) 3. Jerry Rice Receiving TD's for a career 4. Barry Bonds Intentional Walks record for a season (dude was extremely feared at the plate) (200+) 5. Barry Bonds Single season Home Run record (73) 6. Bill Russell's NBA Championship rings (11) 7. Bill Russell's Rebounds in a game (55) 8. Tom Brady's Wins Record won't be sniffed (200+) 9. Cy Young's Career wins record (this list is in no particular order but that's not happening EVER) (511 I think) 10. Just to keep it football I'ma say Paul Krause career INT record even before the rule changes I didn't think that was possible, it certainly isn't now (81) That just to make the point that every record set isn't meant to be broken most of them due to circumstances of time periods.

I hate it when people say that Jerry rice is the best football player of all time. If you look at his stats, yes he is, but you need to look beyond the stats, and into the teams around him. When you look at a guy like Steve Largent, he played for the Seattle Seahawks, when they were just starting out and struggled to put up a winning record with quarterbacks like Zorn and Kraig, while being ok, not an Elite like Montana was. If you put Rice in the shoes of Largent and Largent in the shoes of Rice, I feel Largent would have put up even crazier stats than Rice did.

Emmitt Smiths rushing record may never be broken. If it is, it will be by another Dallas Cowboy! It is rare in today's NFL to see a team with a consistent every down back. Most have 2-3 rotational RB's. Emmitt averaged 1233 yards a season for 15 seasons. CLOSEST ACTIVE PLAYERS: 1. Frank Gore averaging 1088/season for his 12 seasons. Will have to play another 5 seasons. 2. Adrian Peterson averaging 1175/season for 10 seasons. Will have to play another 6 seasons. 3. Matt Forte averaging 1046/season for 9 seasons. Will have to play another 9 seasons. 4. LeSean McCoy averaging 1119/season for 8 seasons. Will have to play another 8 seasons. 5. DeAngelo Williams averaging 736/season for 11 seasons. Will have to play another 14 seasons. 6. Jamaal Charles averaging 807/season for 9 seasons. Will have to play another 14 seasons. 7. Jonathan Stewart averaging 738/season for 9 seasons. Will have to play another 16 seasons. 8. DeMarco Murray averaging 1085/season for 6 seasons. Will have to play another 11 seasons. 3 BEST OPTIONS Le'Veon Bell averaging 1011/season for 4 seasons (technically, 3 seasons worth of games so could be more if he stops getting suspended). *1348/season for 3 seasons will need to play 14 seasons total. David Johnson would need to have 13 more seasons like he did this year. Wont count last year for his 2 year average. Ezekiel Elliott would have to have 10 more seasons like he did this year. Definitely wont average 1631/season but its possible to average at least 1233/season. Will just need to stay healthy.

Emmitt Smith's all time rushing record will never be broken. There are so many factors like longevity, you don't see running backs playing for more than 10 seasons hardly anymore and if they do, they aren't getting many carries when they get up in age..the league is more about passing nowadays and very few teams run the ball that much anymore..then you have most teams wanting multiple backs to split carries instead of giving one guy the lion share..there's still guys like leveon bell and david johnson that get pretty much all the carries, but they break down faster and tend to have more injuries, that's why you see more teams splitting carries like the bengals do with jeremy hill and giovani bernard..I just don't see anyone capable of playing that long at that high of a level without suffering nagging injuries and still being able to put up elite numbers..Emmitt's record isn't going anywhere

The whole "never be broken" argument doesn't actually take realism into account. these records probably wouldn't be broken if things kept going the way they are now. But what if one day there is a QB who simply doesn't lose games and ends up with 300 or 400 wins? Or what if the league expands to 18 games a season? Those things would make Tom's win record much easier to break. Same thing with coaches. And these are things that might very well happen in this lifetime, especially since it seems the 18 game season talk comes up every offseason.

Tom Brady's record can be broken. It will be broken if the team plays good, If the team has players that don't give up, and if the coaches make good decisions for what play to do.

rodgers td/int ratio will never be broken either. he would have to throw 72 straight interceptions for tom brady (the 2nd best td/int ratio) to be even

I think Emmitt's record will get broken. It might take another 16 years or even 100 but eventually it will get broken. In fact I think a majority of these will eventually be broken. There is so much money in the NFL and there are so many new medical discoveries that eventually someone will break these records. IMO we're already starting to see all this stuff starting to happen. There were injuries that were career ending injuries 25 years ago and today guys are coming back from the same injuries in 6 months. Just imagine the medical procedures guys will be able to have in another 25 years. Then they have all sorts of high tech training equipment on top of that. Every single year guys are running faster and jumping higher. On top of all of this, the NFL is doing their best to make damn sure these records get broken. Every year they seem to add a new rule here and a new rule there to help players break these rules. They have rules to protect almost every single offensive player. They also have rules that heavily favor certain aspects of the game. Dan Marino was the Greatest of All Time and would throw for 3500-5000 yards and 30+ TD's. That has almost become an average season for any decent QB. When you really sit down and think about it, the NFL should really keep 2 sets of record books....heck maybe even 3. Comparing the stats of a guy from the 90's to a guy from the 50's seems pretty unfair and it's almost as unfair as comparing a guy playing right now to a guy from the 90's. It's almost 3 completely different games. Take a new NFL fan and send him to watch 50's football or even 90's football and they'd be yelling for a flag on every play (heck they already do that in today's game.) Take a guy from the 90's and put him in a time machine until today or back into the 50's and they'd probably be equally as confused. Anyway with the advancement in sports science, the medical field and the changing of NFL rules to help offenses and to help protect offensive players, it's only a matter of time before these records all get broken.

First off Walter Payton is the goat. And second off if Fitz plays about 3-4 more seasons which I feel with his consistency he could beat Jerry Rice's record for most receptions in a career. Fitz needs 350-400 more receptions to break his record which is very possible

U can shorten it to best: D-line, LB's, DB's, O-line, Receivers (TE & WR). also do best player combos in NFL history i.e. Brady-Moss

In 20 years, Peyton will be remembered as a hall of famer, one of the greatest of all time. But I doubt many will put him ahead of Montana and Brady. Manning is the frontrunner for #3, but 1 and 2 are spoken for.

Tim Tebow is the best damn defense player ever. He was rebounding those footballs wherever he lined up. He did sacks too. He could do a good sack. A once in a lifetime defense kicker we should all be amazed by

Emmits records are in no way untouchable. It is very likely his records will be broken. 18,000+ yards really isn't too impressive considering it's the most all time. If Barry sanders wanted to he could've destroyed all of emmits records and gotten probably around 25,000 yards
