Concussions are real and shouldn't be ignored, they need to extensively text equipment for better safety

Hows a more padded helmet gonna stop your brain from slamming into your skull? The only way I see it, an internal skull safetybelt for the brain.

More padding, more energy absorption, that's how.

@@nikos-giorgos nope, there is literally no helmet or padding that will stop your brain from rattling inside your skull.

I’ve use these in football. My school put them into practice my senior season, from personal experience I felt like they were less effective with hits to the head. With normal helmet to helmet contact I felt like the helmet slid off each other more effectively and the deceleration of the brain was less abrupt, as opposed to the guardian caps felt as if they would “catch” hits. I could be wrong but that’s just what it felt like.

@@pac4prez Yeah chief I watched the video as well, I'm just very skeptical of (as the news anchor says) "the NFL says hit impacted is reduced by 10% if one player is wearing it, by 20% if both...". The NFL has most incentive to find solution to this multi-billion dollar problem they have on their hands, especially if that solution is conveniently a $50 padded beanie to put on players heads.

I wish the solution was as simple as a better helmet. I obviously don't want players to have long term health issues, but football is a risky sport and I don't think they will ever eliminate all risk. Officiating has changed dramatically the past 10-15 years and we still have plenty of injuries/concussions. Its gonna be interesting to see what happens over the next ten years or so.

Simple rule changes and lighter helmets and pads will reduce concussions. I played rugby for 12 years and only recall 2 or 3 concussions. Interestingly, because tackles are only allowed below the waste, there were lots of lower limb injuries.

Football helmets are hard as rock. Although it is meant to protect players it can also be used as a weapon. A football helmet hitting another player delivers a lot of force.

Wanna avoid head and neck injuries and concussions in gridiron football? Get rid of helmets altogether. Helmets are used as weapons, not as protective equipment.. Change the tackle/contact rules.

Its not just the helmets. Its also the pads and the fact that defenders have to hit when tackling in order to stop forward momentum. Wrapping up and dragging down over 3-4yards, like they generally do in rugby, is not good enough in american football. All of these factors encourage players to throw themselves into contact, something that our brains and bodies cannot handle without being damaged.

Is it too late for Herschel Walker to participate in this testing? I do get the concerns of beehives for men. Women with beehives in the 60s was fun for women and men didn't care enough to be bothered with an opinion. These helmets are something else. They can definitely bring out the vainness in men. (Something pro athelets want to keep secret as long as possible. It's a tough guy thing.)

Making the brain not bounce against the skull will never be alleviated with 1 inch of foam. The neck is completely free as well and most concussions, I believe, are the main problem. The NFL will have to free the receiver to catch with no resistance after catch then dragged down. The running back will have to be tackled on the lower side and dragged down as well. With these rule changes, in my opinion, will be the only true solution. NFL is a great game. These role changes will only result in more exciting plays because they will be allowed more reward less risk.
@billyyank5807

Successful offense is not exciting by itself. Any QB in the NFL could regularly throw 50 yard passes if the receiver has effectively nothing to worry about. The game will be decided by micromanaging the clock and which team can get into position on the line of scrimmage the fastest. I want the game to be safer but I’d rather it die then become some glorified practice session.
