Thank you, Rich, for having a level-headed take about the Desmond Ridder v.s. Taylor Heinecke situation. Ridder definitely needs more than 12 starts to show whether or not he can become a viable starter, but do the Falcons have that kind of patience after not making a playoff appearance since 2017? Fans might not like it, but the smart move is to play Ridder the rest of this season to see how he develops and then acquire an upgrade in the offseason is necessary.

THAT I don't think is an overreaction. Players seem to adore him and he plays above his talent level at times, but his reckless style can spell doom for his team. One of the better backup options you're going to get in a league whose backups are often scared and over-reliant on throwing short of the sticks and getting the hell out of there on 3rd down. And yet I still think really positively of him and often trick myself into believing he should be a starter somewhere. Yep. That's the mantle. I remember there used to be the Andy Dalton scale on nfl's website as an idea to explain QB quality. But I would love the Ryan Fitzpatrick scale to be a thing as well.

As a Saints fan I'm not that impressed to be honest, it's what they should have done weeks ago and it was against a terrible defense. Let's hope they can keep it going on a weekly basis

@@Floridaman1780_ he is the straw that stirs their offensive drink. People don't realize just how much they utilize him in that scheme. He's not just a traditional locked-in pass protector at LT. They will move the guy around the formation if it means making the play work. They will utilize him like a pulling guard because of his athleticism. In a league where it seems offensive line play has gotten worse year over year he has been one of those guys who sets the gold standard. Honestly has aged really well.

People misunderstand what "3 years to evaluate a QB" means. Yes it might take 3 years but there are things you can see before this, like zero improvement or worse still regression. Jalen Hurts is the best example, he needed 3 seasons but he kept looking better and better until he broke out and he never regressed. If a QB gets to the end of year one and still looks like he did in game one, he probably ain't it and if he's into year two and still hasn't progressed or looks worse than he did in game one, then he for sure ain't it or if he keeps making the same mistakes game after game.

You have to give a top tier prospect 3 years to see if they can make it at QB, you can tell if a guy like Desmond Ridder has it in 2 because you're going to see that growth or that understanding that they're going to need to make up for the things they probably don't have like athletic ability or arm strength that they're going to lack if they're getting pushed down the board a bit.
