I don't think the Bucs made a mistake kicking the extra point after their final touchdown. Let's run through what happens if they go for 2 instead: If they fail (~40-50% chance, maybe slightly more with a motivated Chiefs D), they have to recover an onside kick (less than 10%), drive down against the Chiefs' vaunted defense, and kick a field goal with 27 seconds and 0 timeouts. Doable, but _highly_ improbable, and the chance of failing just one of those steps and losing is high. If they succeed (50-60% chance), the Chiefs get the ball back with 27 seconds and 3 timeouts, as they did following the extra point. With the game actually on the line instead of just the possibility of overtime, their playcalling would be less conservative and the chances they'd kick that field goal in the waning seconds and win are pretty damn high despite the weather. Instead, by forcing overtime, they get 9½ more minutes, 2 more timeouts, and a fresh coin toss that might deliver them the opening possession. Even if it doesn't (and it didn't), you give your defense more of a chance to force a punt or field goal and give the offense the ball back.

Ya no, they 1000% should’ve went for 2. Completely stupid decision and your attempt of justifying it is not very good
@MrDavidknigge2 күн бұрын
I fully agree with your take, except for this: Making a 2 point conversion in any circumstances is under 40% and against Chris Jones and Spags, it is less than that. Bowles showed confidence in his team by not taking this risky gamble. After all they played even with the Chiefs up until then and they had a 50% chance of winning the coin flip.

It’s easy to sit there and say they need to go for 2 but the Chiefs defense has been great on the goal line.

Everyone is saying he should’ve went for 2. It’s a lose lose situation. If you goes for 2 and get it Mahomes has 30 seconds to go 40 yards with 3 timeouts to get in Butker’s range. He only needed 13 vs the Bills! So the choice was hope you could keep the Chiefs with Mahomes from getting those 40 yards or hoping you could win a coin flip. The coin flip sounds like a better bet to me!

No they won’t. I’m a huge Chiefs fan and have been since 1992. Reid will sit players in the last game of year. They only care about a 3 peat. If they go undefeated in the regular season and Mahomes gets hurt in the last game, then what does it matter.

Bowles wouldn’t have had the chance to go for 2 if Andy hadn’t been overly-conservative on the drive prior. 2.5 minutes left in the game-Chiefs up by 7-and Andy predictably takes the ball away out Pat’s hands. They punt immediately. Saw that coming from a mile away bc that’s who Andy is (at least in the regular season).

The Chiefs have really missed Rashee Rice. I thought Mahomes looked pretty good and I think DeAndre Hopkins is looking like a good pick up. It's funny how so many teams rack up injuries and they have trouble overcoming them. The Chiefs have done a good job with finding personnel that can help them. Hell they dragged dragged Kareem Hunt off the couch

No, the modern NFL season at 17 games makes an undefeated almost impossible, and KC has had too many injuries this year, but I think they are in goos position for the AFC #1 seed with a 15-2 or 14-3 record.

Fair. But chiefs still have DHop and Kelsey. What’s the comparison? Shepherd and Otton? Bucks had a better backfield available, but I happen to be someone that thought Cleveland was nuts for letting Hunt go. Bakers #3 receiver, #3 which became his 1, he found out in the locker room he wasn’t going. Anyway, the impact of the injuries on that game favored the Chiefs IMO. Didn’t matter. Pat is Pat and he doesn’t lose games like this.

@@royeveritt2778 I think if you look at starters, the amount out on D was probably similar. Bucs had starters out on D. Really doesn’t matter. Chiefs were home and are a better team.
