The 85 Bears played in the worst division in football that year. The Buccaneers, Packers and Lions, are you kidding me???? The Vikings were their only competition, and they should have beaten the Bears on Monday night. The Dolphins picked apart that so called great Bears defense by matching up therir fast receivers on the no-covering bears defenders like Gary Fencik and Mike Singletary. The 85 Bears were overrated.

What a dream year for every long-suffering Bears fan. I remember this game so well, they made the cover of SIs next issue (a big deal back then) and then lost to Miami on that fateful Monday night two weeks later. So thankful for youtube to be able to re-live it. As for that glorious '85 season, John Robinson, the Rams coach at the time, nailed it as far as dealing with the Bears that year. He said the key was to try to "not let them get started". So true but good luck slowing down that freight train.

Peace Maker True, but there was this one game he called in San Francisco where he made a kind of social commentary. At some point, the camera cuts to these two inebriated looking hippies in the crowd and Madden says, “Now there’s a couple of folks that don’t know whether to blow it up or stuff it.” Was watching that one with my dad, and we both laughed so hard at that.

As a fan of both the Chicago Bears & the Dallas Cowboys, I looked at this game as a real treat not only because it features 2 of my all-time favorite NFL teams, but, because although it happened several years before I was even born, it takes me back to what football used to be & how much it's changed over the years. They drastically changed the rules and in a way took away from allowing outstanding defenses to exist. Bears attacked in ways I didn't think possible. My Skins of that year was destroyed 44-10 after we started with a 10-0 lead. I remember that game vividly. Paying attention through out that year I didn't feel as bad since Bears was just beating teams badly. They were on from the jump.

Back when football wasn't about bling. There wasn't stupid celebrations after every first down or good plays and no ridiculous end zone celebrations for the cameras. They just high fived each other and got back to work. Hardly any flags and no lengthy instant replay rules. Love Pat and Maddens commentary. They made it that much more exciting.

The Refrigerator actually tried to pick up Walter Payton and throw him into the end zone. Referees called "illegal use of the hands." John Madden was like, "How is that illegal use of the hands?" I totally agree, but I think at that point, the refs sensed that there was too much domination going on, and had to call a penalty just to stop the Bears from completely annihilating the Cowboys. Penalty: Too much domination, Chicago!

For me, it was the fulfillment of Football and I can watch the 82 through 88 Bears in the rise and fall of the greatest team of time. Kevin Butler was the last player to leave the team in 92 of this great and magnificent team. It was a phenomenon that rarely happens. We all had a part in it and that was what made it special. I even got over Miami winning that one losing game. They were trying hard to get into the Super Bowl too. But the revenge there was, that they didn't get to play in the Super Bowl that year and Chicago did with a handful of iconic moments that Miami didn't get to realize.
