About the lion: The lion was 16 feet high, 26 feet long & weighed 1600 pounds. It took about 7 weeks to build/complete the lion. It was built/constructed in Oregon. When it was completed, it was loaded onto a flatbed, covered with a huge canvas tent and then hauled (in one big giant piece) 900 miles to Los Angeles. The trip took 23 hours. The drivers of the flatbed had to sign non-disclosure agreements that they would not tell anyone about the lion. In Los Angeles, the 11 puppeteers (men who made the legs move) rehearsed their movements over 40 times in a 2-week span. From _there,_ the lion was transported 6 hours away to the actual field in Arizona where the Super Bowl was going to be played. The puppeteers rehearsed for a week. Katy was lifted up to the lions' back, via a rolling staircase. When she finished the song, she got down off of the lion by sliding down a pole.

This has to be the best Super Bowl in terms of visual spectacles everything from a Giant size lioness, to 3D Chess board to Kravitz to the freakin cuuuttee shark costumes, MA GIRL MISSYYYYY, to the finale with the fireworks ... it was a tightly choreographed show with perfect timing... it's not likely they were singing live. these shows do not work that way. they lip sync to pre recorded live tracks specifically for the performance. because of the quickly put together stage, with no time for a sound check, its just usually not possible. it's no secret, either. plus some dance numbers are just too difficult to sing at the same time. occasionally there will be some live singing (Lady Gaga did both) but these aren't normal performances.
