I remember watching him a lil bit in college and then I saw him in the preseason. I knew he was a star then

I still have all these games on DVR. The exact moment he became the starting QB was that TD pass to Kellen Winslow just before half vs the Chiefs. The first two games that preseason, Matt Flynn played the first half and Russell Wilson the second half. The previous season's starter, Tarvaris Jackson (R.I.P.), didn't play at all that preseason and was traded to Buffalo before the season started. Matt Flynn wasn't terrible but he wasn't anything special either. Nobody knew that at the time but it was clear on the field that he was just a guy. But having Russell Wilson play the second half against scrubs felt like a cheat code. He absolutely dominated those games. Then in preseason week 3 he got the start against the Chief and dominated. That TD to Winslow, they just made a big play, Wilson slow walks up to the line of scrimmage and quick snapped it and caught the Chief's sleeping. I was like, "Whelp, I guess he's our starting quarterback."

I have no idea. He jumped off the screen to me the few times I saw him play on tv in college. I just assumed he was a high first round pick and the Seahawks would never be able to get him. Especially the way he went to Wisconsin and immediately dominated. He also won the starting job as a freshman at NC State. The scouts had to work hard to ignore him. But from what I've heard they were split. Some scouts loved him and some hated him. So like every NFL team had one guy pounding the table saying to draft him and another guy just as loud saying he wasn't an NFL player. I think the Seahawks would have taken him in the first round if they had to. But they were able to get Bruce Irvin and Bobby Wagner ahead of him.

I don’t know how many Seahawks fans still come around to this video. But, I just wanted to ask any of you how the QB situation unfolded across OTAs, minicamp, trading camp and through the preseason. I’m a Bears fan and obviously they just drafted Justin Fields. A lot of people are comparing the situation with him and Dalton to Smith and Mahomes. But there are a few differences. One, Andy Dalton is not a 4-year starter coming off back-to-back playoff appearances and 3 in the last 4 years like Alex Smith was when Mahomes got drafted. He’s new to the Bears as well. Two, Mahomes (and its wild to think of it now considering how great we know him to be now) had a bit to work on. Tyreek Hill even said that he thought he was trash in training camp of his rookie year. And I believe Matt Nagy even said that Mahomes used to talk so loud in a huddle at practice that the defense could hear the call because he was not used to being in a huddle. The more fair comparison, I (and others) think, is Flynn-Wilson. Free agent QB brought in over the offseason and then a rookie drafted who eventually proved that he was the worthy starter. Obviously the comparison isn’t totally identical - Dalton has been a starting QB in the league and Fields is a first round rookie, but I think it’s holds more water than the Smith-Mahomes one. So how did it all play out? When did the media start to put the pressure on the team to switch to Russ? When was it apparent to fans? How did they make the change? Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts!
