Most of the what Trump has done was revealed to us by the people he helped. No one knows about these because he doesn't talk about it. Donald Trump tip all the workers whenever he's pleased with their work. He's handed countless people Hundred dollar bills, and no one ever found out about it. He funded an all black owned TV network years, and gained nothing out of helping them build a successful TV network. He never even used it to benefit his own campaign. They all came out, and let the world know the Donald Trump that they know. Someone with a big heart.

What I love about this so, SO much is the backstories. Like how Trump wanted to buy multiple NFL teams and Pete Rozelle told him in a private meeting that as long as he's Commissioner, Trump will never be a part of the NFL. I love it how Don Shula DID put some consideration into coaching in the USFL, but was immediately turned off when Trump prematurely opened his big, stupid mouth. I especially love how the league crashed and burned, when, under Trump's advice...despite huge pushback that the league wasn't ready...the league moved it's games from spring to summer, which was a colossol failure. And finally, I simply ADORE how Trump's stupid lawsuit yielded a verdict of the NFL having to pay one dollar in damages...due to the fact that the USFL was already self-destructing due to it's incompetetent business moves.

Trump screwed up what little toehold they had in the USFL, just greed and impatience. No way Shula ever would have worked for him, way too smart to put up with his crap. Biggest issue at the time was all three networks (remember when there were only three) were already having trouble selling their football ad packages, last thing anybody needed was more football on TV in the fall at the time. Trump thought he would push and cajole his way into an nfl franchise on the cheap. One thing they did in usfl was get top talent into the league if you look at what happened to nfl salaries and eventual free agency after usfl changed the dynamic the league had a lasting effect for sure . Lots of good players went to the usfl first, lots of good players over looked by nfl got their start in the usfl

The NFL sure seemed fine to me in 1984. The Super Bowl featured two incredible QBs in Marino and Montana. The Bears had Sweetness and recorded 72 sacks to set itself up for a huge run in 1985. Parcells was turning the Giants around with the best defensive player in history, LT. The USFL was perfect in the spring time, but Donald went ahead and gave huge money to Chiefs safety Gary Barbaro. Spending became out of control and it died out.

A lot of people don’t remember how big a part Fox played in the recovery. When they shocked the world and outbid the big 3 for NFC coverage, they went from being a small upstart station to a major network. And they had a fresh style that was totally different than ABC, CBS or NBC. It was perfect for the Dallas Cowboys era, and it forced the other three to change their styles. They invented the modern pregame and halftime shows and they created the team of broadcasters made up of coaches and players who injected humor into the whole thing. They destroyed news, but Fox made a lot of important contributions to modern entertainment and media.
@NJGuy19737 жыл бұрын
What isn't discussed here is how the USFL needed its ABC-TV revenue to stay afloat. ABC's contract stated that it could be cancelled if the league did not have teams in NY, Chicago, and LA. When the fall move was announced in '84, Chicago went inactive, knowing they couldn't compete with the Bears. And through the '85 season the LA team almost folded because their owner was blowing through money. Had LA folded, no ABC revenue, league closes up, game over.

Everyone wants to give Trump a hard time for moving to the fall. I do think it was a big mistake for the USFL to put so much into merging with the NFL , true, but everyone forgets that the USFL was a razor thin margin away from beating the NFL. He was right. The won the lawsuit but only got 3 dollars. It accelerated the leagues demise which was going to happen anyway staying in the spring.

Wrong! It started with 12 teams in 1983. Then in 1984, they added 6 more teams- Houston, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, San Antonio, Oklahoma. Then in 1985 to 14 teams. The USFL screwed up when it kept signing high priced rookies and NFL veterans.

That's not hyperbole. My father had the SI cover of Jim Brown at 47 in a Raiders uniform talking about his comeback being what the boring NFL needed. Football just wasn't as relevant. Then 1984 was this wild unicorn like year...passing record in a season broken. rushing record in a season broken. All time record for rushing in a season...broken. Most sacks...broken (and hasn't really been touched since). There were so many big individuals and achievements that one of, for my money, the 3-4 best teams in NFL history flew under the radar ALL THE WAY IN TO THE SUPER BOWL: The '84 San Francisco 49ers. No records broken individually, no crazy personalities. Just one of two teams to win 18 games in a season WITH A SUPER BOWL TITLE (sorry Patriots fans). And for most of that incredible year, they were lost in the backwash of everything else. Never gonna see that again.

Who is the narrator? I recognise the voice, but can't figure out exactly who it is.

***** Bruh, do you politics? Marx advocated for disbanding the state. Kropotkin was a full anarchist, and Ukraine and Spain were models for anarcho communism before destroyed by the Bolshies and Fascists, respectively. I'm not a tankie.

Deez Nutz What are you talking about? Defense plays, what do you mean they don't? Also celebrations are cool but it's not what football is all about or any other sport.
@cumuluschoir59457 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure celebrations are allowed in the AFL. The only problem with the AFL is that another arena football league, the IFL (which was at one point a minor league but at this point may as well be considered the major league) has been slowly absorbing AFL teams. They absorbed my Rattlers this year in fact, leaving the AFL with only five teams in total. Not great. But yeah, indoor football rules allow for celebrations.

There's plenty of indoor football out there. I'd love to see the CIF grow and the AFL rebound.
