@8:33 "At the end of his career..." He actually finished his career with a Super Bowl Ring from the Cowboys; his last last playing days were as #2 behind Dan Marino in Miami. Bernie was the one who gave Dan Marino the "fake clock" call for a TD, which was early in the clock play's history. Always thinking - that should be Bernie's Legacy.

@BTLAGS4 жыл бұрын
From what Kosar said when he was back in U of Miami and he and testaverde were dueling for starting QB, Vinny had him beat out but the only reason he won the starting Job was his command of the offense compared to testverde's. Which in hindsight is true Kosar was far more clutch and less mistake prone compared to testervarde but the issue was Kosar was deemed fragile they didnt believe he would play for very long due to him being skinny.
@richiehunt50974 жыл бұрын
And two contrasting styles. Testaverde had a beautiful arm and throwing motion, but locked on receivers and didn't have good anticipation. Kosar looked like a guy losing a bar of soap in the shower when he threw the ball (credit Jim Murray), but had incredible anticipation and accuracy on very difficult throws.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was Kosar who called the fake spike that Marino executed vs the Jets.
@DASCO21365 жыл бұрын
You are correct. He originally called it in the 1986 AFC divisional playoff game (ironically against the Jets) in an attempt to take the lead with seconds left in the game. The passed was almost picked off in the end zone by Russell Carter. After that play, they went for the tying field goal which was converted and the Browns won the game. They played Denver in the championship game the following week. The rest is history.

@greensmithfootball104 жыл бұрын
Picking Kosar was definitely the right choice for Accorsi to make even though Art Modell wanted the Browns to draft Flutie. That's another example of why ownership should just let the GM and coaches have autonomy over their teams because I don't believe the Browns would've gone to those AFC championship games without being lead by Kosar. Not to say that Flutie would've been a bust in Cleveland but I just don't think it would've worked because of how different his skill set was. But even if the Browns went to the Superbowl during the latter half of the 80's I don't think they would've won because the Giants and Redskins were both way better all around teams

But you’re right, Testeverde & the 1994 Browns beat Parcell’s Patriots in the playoffs. I’m a big fan of Belichick. He said he used the lessons learned from Kosar when he kept Brady over Bledsoe. Also, to Belichick’s credit, Kosar was a backup the rest of his time in the NFL. He played well when he had to start for Aikman, but no team signed Kosar to be their starter. He has banged up.

@@mattthedestroyer2804 The Browns have been around since 1946. In their original form, they had one of the highest winning percentages in NFL history because they consistently had great to good QBs: Otto Graham, Frank Ryan, Bill Nelsen, Brian Sipe, and Bernie Kosar. The Browns=joke reputation didn't start until after 1999 when they came back as an abysmally run and seemingly snake-bitten expansion franchise.
