It's depressing to see how many players I grew up watching in the '70s appear in this video. Hearing that they've passed is always shocking, because I remember them in their prime and it's hard to reconcile with the idea of them being old, frail men. It's a stark reminder of our own mortality.

RIP. So many greats represented in one fantastic tribute video. Thank you NFL Films.

I'm 58. I remember Ray Guy asking John Madden if he could try to punt to the gondola at the Super Dome. Greatest punter ever at the time.
@kyledamron Жыл бұрын
I don't know if people understand just how great Ray Guy was, he could do it all not just punt, but as a punter he changed the game forever he invented hangtime. Raider Nation will never forget him or Daryle Lamonica

Guy is the GOAT of punters. No one has ever come close. I'm a Colts fan, but I remember when that ball was in the air it seemed it was never coming down.
@r.williamcomm7693 Жыл бұрын
Yes Ray Guy was such an amazing punter but Madden always said that he could’ve played safety, WR or even QB too. Although Guy was a dreaded Raider against my Steelers & many ppl I knew hated the opponents I admired the abilities & stories of both sides including Raiders & Cowboys. Franco Harris was one of my true heroes growing up. Those Steelers players were larger than life to me & running backs were the heartbeat of most offenses. RBs who got past the LBs & put his shoulders into DBs seemed to set up the deep passing game. It’s sad watching these giants leave us.

@King Rabbit This video is a tribute to the great ones we've lost. McAfee is irrelevant in this video. I am a fan of the Colts and the NFL.

i remember, and you gotta be some kind of special to be remembered as great, as a punter. honorable mention to john james, who was awesome but not given his due cause he played in atlanta.

Ray Guy is the reason for the NFL teams timing player’s 40 yard dash run because of the ridiculous hang time of his punts.

Many players and coaches of my childhood. I miss the game of football then. How it was played how men respected the league, their fans and their teammates.

RIP to Dan Reeves. Possibly the best coach who’ll probably never be in Canton. Also, one inaccuracy: If position players include quarterbacks, then Danny White punter regularly from 1980-1983 if I’m not mistaken.

I remember watching a lot of these guys when they young and I too was in my youth. You remember those exciting moments and those images are burned into your memory so it is very sad to them pass on. Seeing them here again brings backs those crisp autumn days.

Good video today, but one inaccuracy here: When talking about Cappiletti, if quarterbacks count as position players, then Danny White also punter in his first four seasons as a starter. But other than that, nicely done, and RIP to those who are no longer with us.

Another one lost alongside Rayfield Wright on the Dallas O-line was OT Ralph Neely, who played about 13 years and won two championships. Also, OT Marvin Powell of the Jets (think D'Brickashaw Ferguson only 20 years earlier) passed away. Don't forget the linemen.
@patbrooks9823 Жыл бұрын
How do you forget Ralph Neely? 😡 4 time All Pro. 1960s All Decade Team. 2 Super Bowl Champions. And how many guys can say they played for Bud Wilkinson & Tom Landry?

Don Maynard was a beast, but the greatest deep threat of the era was the mercurial Cliff Branch of the Raiders. Not only for straight speed but for natural route running skills. His 0-60 was about two seconds flat!

Wow! There were a lot of NFL legends who passed away in 2022! I never knew until watching this video a year later, that Dave Butz and Kenny Burrough both passed away last year. I knew about mostly everyone else. Ray Guy’s death choked me up the most, since I’m a Raiders fan. He was one of my all-time favorite Raiders, along with Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen, Lyle Alzado, and Mike Haynes.

Funny, Jim Brown, who just died, hated Franco Harris. He hated him for breaking his all-time rushing record at that time. He was thinking of doing a comeback at 47 with the Los Angeles Raiders. His hate was the fact he ran out of bounds all the time. Brown would never run out of bounds!
@Jetsea6 ай бұрын
Ironic, but I don't think Franco hated him back. Franco just played and just lived.
