I bet the frustration from season after season of being in serious contention and coming up short is getting to the Shanahan. The Rams pulled a "F the future" strategy and a couple of bad seasons may be worth the risk for finally getting that Lombardi. And with the salary cap there is usually a way to rework the contracts so you can still field a good roster even with highly paid talent.

49ers management have been botching a lot of moves the last few years and getting a pass. They waited too long to trade Crappolo, now Aiyuk, played hardball with Bosa to end up signing him anyway when they could of done it earlier, didn't even scout Mahomes, the Trey Lance debacle, lucking into Brock, not building up the O-Line, etc. It will be interesting too see how well Washington does after snagging the top assistant GM from the 9ers.

He is an irreplaceable part of the offense because Deebo is a munch better WR2/RB hybrid than WR1 and TE cant be a number 1 option. I'm a Niner fan and Aijuk has 1 TD in 9 career playoff games. He sucks. Our WR3 had more TD in the Super Bowl than Aijuk has in 9 games! He has the same number of yards and catches too. Aiyuk is playing a game here that is inline with many of the talking head ex-nfl players that what matters is getting the most money possible. But what of being in the best situation possible? Focusing on craft? The idea that a player should ONLY care about top dollar makes me like the NFL less and less. Everyone has to make quality of life tradeoffs. I have so much respect for those players who have sacrificed a bit of money to make sure the team they are on is the best team possible. How has this played out for Devante Adams?

If they give top dollar to a WR who isn't top tier, then each and every player that comes up for contract will require the same. At some point there is a limit and if you want to build a good team, not just have a few stars, a lot of holes are filled with lower tier players that play for 5-10 million. The NFL is in a crazy spiral upwards, and some teams think they're best by just paying a few stars and ignoring all the rest. I'd prefer to manage and play for a team that is more evenly balanced.

I think Aiyuk stays in SF. This media fiasco has been carefully curated by the 49ers front office to generate leverage. Also, on the flipside Aiyuk and his agent have generated offers from other teams, like the patriots Browns and Steelers, in order to leverage back at the 49ers. I don’t think Aiyuk ever intended to join another team. And I don’t think the niners ever got close to trading him and won’t at all. This was all just a stand off to see who would budge first, player or team. And judging by the report that the niners have upped their offer for a contract tells me Aiyuk won. Can we also talk about if whether Aiyuk is worth such a big contract. I think not. He’s a great volume receiver that functions in well organized offensive system. There’s truly no telling what he would perform like in another offense not Shanahan’s or similar that knows how to scheme around BA’s abilities. Don’t get me wrong. The guy is pretty good but he’s not all world talented. The Steelers have Van Jefferson, who is a former second round pick. And is more talented than Aiyuk.
