Daboll isn't the type of coach to throw his players under the bus, so why is everyone seemingly overlooking the possibility that Tommy simply outplayed Drew in practice or knows the playbook better, or has better chemistry with teammates? Daboll is coaching to keep his job these last few weeks, keeping the locker room together is a big part of that.

Well I think it's the whole point is the question Daboll was asked - DeVito was third on the depth chart. If he was better than Lock why wasn't he the backup and Lock third? That being said, as a Giants fan I don't really care who starts at this point, I'm numb to it all. But I think it's a fair question of why Lock was skipped over if he was ranked second by the coach.

Jones being benched was both business and football. He’s been horrible, the team’s horrible with him, the injury clause is there… the only football plus on his side is he’s the best we have. Drew Locke was the long-term backup I.e., if DJ was on PUP list at the start of the season and he had to play 4-6 with some hope. At this point he’s an overpriced backup with no future on the Giants. DeVitto is a fan favorite and a more likely backup for the future. Get him the reps now for future dividends. With this team DeVitto/Locke is more or less a push. Locke is probably better, but Tommy has a higher ceiling.

I remain of the opinion that they should determine draft seeding of non-playoff teams based on record at 10 games, and then use the best record for games 11-17 to determine the first tier of tie breakers, in an effort to give teams with a lost season a reason to try to win once its clear the season is lost, and fans of said teams a reason to want to root for their team to win down the stretch. I'm not saying if this was in place DeVito definitely wouldn't be starting... but he might not, and even if he still was, I suspect it'd make the games much more appealing for the fans.

I think they are testing DeVito to be the second string next year or maybe even start the season as the starter until Sanders, or whoever, is ready to start and then Tommy will be the back up. The Giants are not accustomed to carrying three QBs, but this year was unique because of the injury to Jones and no one was really sure if Jones would be ready to start this year.

Drew Lock was never number 2. The Giants put Cutlets 3rd so people wouldn't go nuts about sitting Jones after week 1. Cutlets has been better than both Lock and Jones in training and in camp. Cutlets is also a locker room guy who is friends with almost everyone. Drew Lock was never going to get that look.

Giants fan here. The decision with Jones is very straight forward as the organization fully understands that he is incapable. DeVito's decision is mainly business but overall he does show more potential than drew. He will need some extraordinary preforamances to get a starting role for next season. Also Dabol will mostly likey be sacked by then

Clearly the Giants are starting Tommy Cutlets because it gives the lowest probability to win the rest of the season, but still showing the faithful fans that they're trying to play for something. Don't forget, he's a jersey boy, hometown hero! With Locke in as the starter they may just win a few games and ruin their place in the draft which is what the franchise doesn't want. Business first then football entertainment.

Here’s the simple answer: the only situation in which it would ever make sense for Drew Lock to play is if the Giants were in contention with DJ and DJ got hurt. That’s it. Period. In every other scenario, it makes sense for Tommy DeVito to be playing. He will keep fans coming to the games even though the season is lost. It helps keep his name in the mix for the future as a back up. Lock was a one-year rental to be to put on the field only in this situation I describe above.

Giants fan here. As I keep saying, the only way Lock was ever gonna see the field is if the Giants were winning with Jones and then Jones got hurt. That’s it. The Giants were not winning with Jones, so there’s no reason to play Lock. DeVito puts butts in seats in an otherwise lost season. He may be on the roster next year as QB2. Lock was a one-year rental only to see the field in the scenario I mentioned above, once it was clear Jones was gonna come back healthy this year. No Giants fans would pay money to come out and see Lock leading a miserable team.

His contract is onerous, but if the Giants cut him, my Colts should pick him up as a backup for next season if they can get a reasonable deal. Flacco is probably going to retire after this season, so we will need a new QB2. I don't think he's THAT bad to not be considered as a backup. You want someone who has been there and done that so they don't completely panic if they get thrust into a game. I know Daniel Jones isn't great, but he might be competent if QB1 gets hurt. Then again, Drew Lock will be a free agent, so we might be able to pick him up.

I don't see a clown show. I see this as prepping for 2025. I see Brian Daboll leaving no stones left unturned or leaving any doubts whether Daniel Jones had a fair chance to succeed. Daniel hasn't succeeded with the improvements made to the team. Losing Andrew Thomas sucks but the line has been ok. Playing DeVito is the better move now because he makes sense to fill the back up QB job. Tommy also brought a spark to the offense and excitement to the stadium. He will take chances down the field where Jones won't.

When your starting Quarterback fails and the season a huge disappointment it is time to play the second string Quarterback. Last season the Giants proved they were worthy by making the playoffs without DJ then this year the decision to start DJ was a big mistake and yes we understand the salary of 160 million but that falls in the hands of management and to disappoint the FAN base was a bad move even if you didn't play DJ at least the team may have been in better shape. I guess i will have to have something to cheer about in the 2025-2026 season.

It has nothing to do with attendance. The stadium will be filled up no matter what. It has been sold out for a century. If ticket holders do not show they will just sell or give tickets away.
