They use fields on critical downs to confuse the defense. But also, because Fields is quicker and can get big chunks of yardage when needed.

But Russ can still burn defenses with his legs when he has to. Don’t be fooled. Russ was 8th in QB rushing last season right behind 7th place Mahomes, and Russ only played 15 games to Mahomes’s 17. Russ had 22.733 Y/G for 341 rush yards. If he had played 17 games, he would’ve had 386 yards, possibly more. People keep claiming his legs are declining, but his yardage was over 200% the average for QB rushing.

Because someone very wealthy is paying these people to take shots at Russ. I don’t get it either. Mike Florio doesn’t know what he’s talking about out when he speaks of Russ. Russ doesn’t need to be controlled. You never heard them talk about Grady, Rodgers, Nanning, or any white all-time elite aqB that way, but they talk about Russ that way. Russ makes these people feel threatened. I think it’s about skin tone. Mahomes is a lot lighter and has a white mother. Russ’s parents were both black. They don’t want the sanctity of the QB position threatened by black QBs. Warren moon is the ceiling. They don’t want a black QB to be a top-10 all-time QB, which Russ can be if he wins another ring. With his stats, he can enter the top-5 all-time if he wins two more SBs.

His “source” doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Mike Tomlin is supremely confident in Russ. He doesn’t need to be controlled, and Justin Fields would be no threat to him anyway. Fields plays because they don’t want him to become disengaged or lose his confidence. Russ can still run (8th in the league in QB rush yards last season), but using JF on designed runs preserves Russ.

I’ll tell you what I told everybody all week about Joe Burrow: the only young studs ever to beat Russ in a first matchup were Andrew Luck, Josh Allen, Andy Dalton, and Lamar Jackson, and they barely did it.
