This game perfectly encapsulates the legacies of both QBs. Eli: Struggles and is imperfect, but he comes through at the end. Romo: Looks great for most of the game, but a mistake at the end causes the L.
@Gunleaver Жыл бұрын
Mistake at the end? It was in the first quarter that he lurched untouched into the end zone to fall down for a freebie safety, that caused the margin of victory (if not for the safety, the Giants final TD would have made the score 34-33, and they would have kicked the PAT instead of going for two; the 2pt conversion, plus Romo's wrong-way safety, put the Giants up 37-34, forcing Dallas to try the kick to tie the game).

@@CoreyT127As I said, it would have been tied if not for the safety. The Giants' last score put them up by one before the conversion, so they went for 2, because that late in the game, there is no real difference between a 2 point (if they kicked) or 1 point (if 2pt try failed)lead. Either one loses to a field goal. So NY went for the 2 pt conversion, to take a 3 point lead. If not for the safety, the last TD would have left the Giants down by one, and unable to risk going for 2. They would have settled for the PAT, if Romo had better situational awareness in the first quarter.

Legacies were made here and in the season finale as well as the 2007 Div PO game. Romo established himself as a choke artist and Eli as one of the most clutch QBs ever. Romo badly overthrew Austin, that would have clinched the game, while Eli led 2 TD drives in the closing 5 minutes. Three weeks later, in the Div title game, Eli has a 3 TD 0 Int game, while Romo has a 2 TD 2 Int game. In the Div PO game, Eli completed 67% of his passes with 2 TDs and 0 Ints, while Romo completed just 50% of his passes with 1 TD and a game-ending Int. That's why Eli is a HOFer and Romo isn't. The Giants left 8 points off the board when they couldn't convert two of the first three drives within the yard line into TDs. Realistically, they should've been up 23-17 going into halftime instead of being down 15-17. Everyone talks about 12:06 where if that pass was completed that the Giants season would be over. The sad thing is that during the season the Cowboys choked at that point 4 4th quarter leads. It began with the Jets choke in the last 5 minutes. Then the choke against the Lions where Romo threw 2 pick six's and one to Barbie Carpenter in the second half. Then against the Patriots where the defense had to make that one last stop to get the win. Didn't happen. Then the worst from the previous week. It explains everything Jason Garrett as a coach. 13-13 and Dan Bailey for the Cowboys had a kick to win the game. Garrett freaks out and fucking calls a time out just as Dan kicks the ball. It goes through, but it doesn't count. Next play Bailey hits the upright no good. That dumbass iced his own kicker. The Cardinals got the ball and scored on their first possession. The Cowboys would lose 4 out of 5 and either would have been stomped in the playoffs even if they won this game. They just choked when it mattered.

Demarco Murray was going to run for 175-200 yards in this game if he didn’t get hurt in first quarter. That injury and Garrett continuing to call 40 passes per game was what allowed door to crack open for Giants to make playoffs. Giants lost the next week to Washington and then beat a .500 Jets teams and then again sorry ol inconsistent Cowboys in week 17. It took Romo having back surgery in 2013 to force Garrett and front office to draft Zac Martin and go to a balance run attack. Romo > Dak. And that's a fact. Prescott is nothing more than an average NFL QB....

Defenders need to learn to block backwards on INT's. The guy with the ball needs clearance in front of him, AND he needs blocking from pursuing receivers from behind. On Sean Lee's INT at 10:09, his teammates seemed more like a hinderance than anything else. One or two blocks backwards, and less bodies to run through (some his own teammates), and maybe h breaks into open field.

This was a real heartbreaking loss for us I was not surprised the Giants went on another Super Bowl run as inconsistent as Eli was at times during his career this particular season he was the most clutch QB in football. The Giants had a tenacious defensive front and the Cowboys at this time had one of the worst OL’s in the league, which made it a bad matchup for us. Romo played great as he typically did throughout his career I think he gets a bad reputation as a player that came up small in big moments, but watching pretty much his entire career Tony was one of the top quarterbacks overall and in the 4th quarter. People forget how flawed some of the teams Romo played on and this game was a perfect example of that because Tony was able to lead the Cowboys to a double digit deficit with less then five minutes to play. The defense gave up the lead, which unfortunately has been a pattern not only in the Romo era also the last few years with Dak.

If Romo hits that pass to Austin at 12:14, the Giants don’t win the Super Bowl. Prove me wrong.

The error when we wish Dallas had a defense. Dallas's offense was good but their defense royally sucks.

Vikram Bansal 12:10 is unacceptable, for both Romo and Austin really. Romo for the overthrow and Austin for his trash effort to go and get it especially cause he was wide open. They complete that throw the game is over.

I'm grateful JPP waited to play with fireworks after this season, wouldn't have had enough fingers to get that last FG block.
