To think that Miami won the AFC East in 08, and the Jets (despite signing Brett Favre) and Patriots (despite finishing 11-5 without Tom Brady) missed the playoffs.

During the time of the 16-game schedule, only two 11-5 teams missed the postseason: the 2008 Patriots and the 1985 Broncos. It’s crazy to think that a 10-6 team won the Super Bowl in 2007 (the Giants), but an 11-5 team couldn’t even make the postseason the next year. Insane!

How the jets start 8-3 and look like arguably the best team in the afc, to fall to 9-7 and miss the playoffs is a mystery to me. Reminds me a lot of last years ravens team (though in their defense, they were plagued with injuries)

Buffalo had such a soft schedule and failed to make postseason. They had started the season 4-0 and ended at 7-9. So much young talent on that roster too: Lynch, Jackson, Jabari Greer, Paul Poszluzny, Jason Peters, Kyle WillIams, Lee Evans, and then you have god damn Trent Edwards under center.

Bro the 2008 NFL season was probably one of the craziest seasons in NFL history. Tom Brady was out the whole season because of an ACL injury in week 1 against Kansas City Chiefs so that met the AFC east was up for grabs which Chad Pennington got revenge on his former team Jets while Dolphins made Playoffs,Patriots surprisingly missed the playoffs with a 11-5 record. Also in 2008 Detroit Lions went 0-16,Pittsburgh Steelers won the Superbowl over Arizona Cardinals because of a game winning TD by Holmes. So it was a very interesting season

I remember watching this game. Leading up to that Losman fumble, the Bills had been running on the Jets all day, and the Jets couldn't stop the Bills on the ground even when the Jets knew the run was coming. On that same drive as the fumble, the Bills had run several times for a first down, was running down the clock, and had the Jets starting to use their timeouts, which made that playcall for Losman to pass even more inexplicable. Even if the Bills couldn't ultimately run the clock out, had they had to go on defense one more time to win, I would have trusted the defense, given that Favre wasn't doing all that much in the second half and the defense seemed to tighten up in the half. Also, I made the mistake of congratulating the Bills on what I thought was going to be a hard-fought and well-earned win moments before the fumble happened. Even worse, while the Bills were more or less out of the playoff hunt at that point, a Bills win would have significantly set back the Jets in their hunt for a playoff spot.
