@abc_12333 he was a backup in College & had no hype coming out of the draft.. to say they messed up by not drafting him is pure r*t4rdation. If it was so obvious, why did every team (including the Patriots) paas on him 5 times? Thats all hindsight.

And it's not enough for Brady to have a multi decade HOF career...he needs to go out of his way to remind everyone of how he was disrespected and how he overcame his 6th round status. To be fair, I don't think Rodgers has the same level of success in the nfl if he goes to the 49ers. The packers sitting him behind Favre for a few years was key in his development. Same thing with Mahomes, people underestimate how much the year behind Alex Smith helped him.

So did the 49ers … they took DT Solomon Thomas with their 3rd pick. This was after a season of bitter QB controversy that would lead to courageous incoming head coach Mike Shanahan Jr to dump their QB1 immediately. They scouted Mahomes and met with him and passed. Which was ultimately best for PM, b/c Reid already had a plan to sit him and let him learn before throwing him into the grinder b4 he was ready.

@@davidm.2141Well, 75% of Mahomes success hinges on having the greatest TE, fastest WR (at first), and a top 5 O line/defense, but most of all the unwavering support of the league and refs. Just the recalled interceptions from flags proves that. Mahomes has had FIFTY SIX interceptions called back due to penalty over the last five seasons, with second place Josh Allen only having SIX, and third place Kirk Cousins only having THREE. Adding up every interception called back from a penalty by every other NFL QB over that same time, you still don't get 56, Mahomes has more than everyone else combined. If you gave the recalled interception and automatic roughing or late hit for touching him dynamic that refs give Mahomes to Trubisky, he'd be unstoppable too. Any NFL QB would be, it's like letting one guy take PA drugs but not anyone else.

Honestly I don't see alot of these teams testing "Mental" capabilities with these players. It's just all about how physically gifted you are, and between the 3 QBs who won 4 or more SBs not a single one of them was a hugely athletic guy. Just tall, or stocky, or smart, and playbook centric QBs. Teams need to evolve beyond athletics with QBs.

The biggest draft mysteries are the Bears drafted Mitch Trubisky ahead of Mahomes and the Saints thought they were getting Mahomes at the next pick. Mahomes had quite a bit of bad habits at Texas Tech which is why some were unsure. Brady going to Pats and Mahomes to Chiefs with Reid are what helped make their careers. Just like this year whoever goes to Vikings has the greatest chance for success, it’s all where they go

Ah Tommy. The story is great. Gives kids something to work for. Brady knew who he was.

I don’t get why Tom never bothered working out during college. It’s not the most important thing but you can’t deny it helps. Being stronger and faster is always beneficial.

And just think...if it wasn't for a fine, fateful Sunday aftetnoon back in 2001 when Mo Lewis hit Drew Bledsoe so are his lung almost exploded...the legend of Tom Brady would have never came to be.

I were a Michigan football fan! Let’s face it! They were the third of my five college football favorites! And, saw him play all four years there! I were saying how did he become the 191st overall pick? He should have been like the 3rd or 4th choice!

What’s crazier is Brady’s dad was holding 9ers tickets until Brady would be drafted because he hoped he could watch his son play

Crazy how teams used to draft a qb in the third round with the expectation for them to start and be the “next Joe Montana”. Different times apparently.

I remember when all this unfolded. And watching Giovanni suck was hard to look at 😖 And knowing that Tom was a Bay Area guy and wanted to play for his hometown team made it suck that much harder.

How about understanding that spirit, confidence and mindset are as important or more important than what you can measure at a combine?
