Best decision? Wrong, Mo Lewis made Tom Brady the GOAT. Back in 2001, Patriots resigned Drew Bledsoe to a 10-year contract, worth $108 million. Tom Brady got to shine because Mo Lewis took out Bledsoe. Give credit when credit is due

Aaron would have wasted maybe injured his arm like Alex did early on. Brady was passed by everyone 6 or 5 times... lol... they were hoping for a backup or why else keep 2 backups and Bledsoe. You're wrong. Tom would either have left the patriots or the Patriots would have dropped him. Bledsoe signed a huge contract, no way did bill or Robert saw anything In tom brady. Thanks to mo Lewis taking at bledsoe, brady took advantage of the spotlight and made something big out of it. Pretty sure if thay hit never happened, brady would be playing for another team right now. It's the same with nick foles. If carson never went out, eagles would have never won their only super bowl.
@mnarahari

@@KingAllpha321 At the time of the draft, Pats had 3 QBs, so it was not a position of need. Belichick saw something in Brady to select him. If Pats had a QB need, he might have been picked in earlier rounds. Again after Drew came back from injury, Bill was the only one who saw enough in Tom to keep him starter. Agree that without Mo Lewis hit, it might have started late; but I still believe Bill would have started Tom sooner or later; based on what Tom had shown practices/meetings. Tom did not give up on starter position at Michigan, and wasn't going to at Pats and move to another team. [Ironic that I am posting this message after he moved to TB, but not to confuse this move with pre-legacy days Tom].

Tom Brady would have always been successful. He had a stunning 20 - 5 won-loss record at Michigan in College, and won the Orange Bowl in dramatic, heoric, come-from-behind fashion. Tom Brady was always a consistent performer, and "winner" wherever he was. The NFL just didn't notice because they always get caught up in the meaningless physical traits of a player that have nothing to do with actually playing the position of quarterback. The important thing for a QB is lightning quick information processing, making wise choices, recognition of coverages, and throwing quickly with accuracy & consistency. Tom Brady always had that. He also always had that rare and intangible "cool and calm" demeanor under the most nerve-racking, pressure points of the game. Being a good QB is not about wowing people with sidearm slinging passes, or scrambling around in circles, or "atheticism" or who can throw the absolute farthest or the fastest. And it certaintly is not about vertical jump measurements, or 40-yard dash sprint time, or doing rubber-cone drills, or doing a friggin long jump in a sand pit. That's not what being a QB is all about. Who cares? The NFL is just stupid about the criteria for rating college players at the QB position (which is why lots of top draft picks often and quickly become busts, and never amount to anything).

A lot of unfair knock on this Giovanni kid, but if you watch his college highlights, you all would've chosen him ahead of Brady. He was more athletic, more rugged, and there was likely more potential in him than Brady. It's not like Giovanni was a Ryan Leaf who was a can't-miss QB with a cannon of an arm but flopped badly because of immaturity. Whether the spotlight got to Giovanni or not, that's very much a possibility but sometimes it's all about fit, and if he was in the right organization that's right for him, he might have blossomed. I think Brady got very lucky that Drew Bledsoe got injured and that he played for coach Belichick, who was a much sought-after coach at the time. If Brady was playing for the Detroit Lions, he would not be the player or the household name that he is today.

In your lives, in your careers, whatever that may be, if you were a last hire and you met the owner of your company would you have the nerve look the owner dead in the eye and state such a thing? Any college success at all does not necessarily mean pro success. Many QB's have gone to pro level and not done well and im sure alot of them was due to being put in too fast; too much on their shoulders too soon and just not brought along slow enough. Some guys have done it, coming right in and being good but you couldnt give them all the credit alone. It was how the system they were brought into was and you have to give credit to the Pats and whomever said we will keep him on and see if he improves ! How many organizations give players much of a chance these days to improve and have someone work with and develop these rookies. Owners and such want instant success and do not want to wait to develop the team and let them grow strong as a whole over time. Despite cheating allegations which I think some are possibly true, they have worked hard and made good decisions and built over the past 25 years and its still paying off despite falling short last season to the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Technically, EVERY team passed on Brady, including the Patriots, multiple times, and every team that didn't pick Rodgers also passed on him. Whether they had a franchise QB in place is irrelevant--if anyone could possibly know what they'd eventually become, they would be picked 1st overall. This video is a little dishonest about Carmazzi's role on the team. They talk about him like he was the first overall draft pick, when really he was just another guy who was expected to maybe compete for the starting role. You don't draft your franchise guy in the 3rd round. When 3rd round picks become the starter, it's usually a surprise (and Brady was the biggest surprise of them all). The truth is Jeff Garcia was the guy, and always the guy, but Carmazzi was a safe backup. Here's something else to know about Bill Walsh: he saw Garcia play against Stanford (Walsh's team) in college and told him if he ever returned to the NFL he would sign him. Garcia went undrafted and played in Canada, and when Walsh became the Niners GM he signed this undrafted kid and next thing you know he's a Pro Bowler. The documentary makes Walsh look like an idiot when he's really not. You can't draft a bust in the 3rd round when nothing is expected of a 3rd round guy.

C Mistrinho Welker was good before he came to the Pats, he was just sorely underutilized by the Dolphins. I was watching him the entire previous season wishing he was on the Pats. I knew what he could do in their offense, and after they got him and then traded for Moss I knew they would be a dangerous combination. As for his Denver drop off, that happens when you go from an offense where you are a focal point to being the 3rd/4th option. Still did good, but concussions are what really did him in. People should really give credit to the fact that Brady just had one of the greatest SB performances of all time throwing the ball to a 7th round pick who played QB in college, a rookie, a guy who played friggin Lax in college, Bennett with a bad ankle, and without his number 1 weapon (gronk). Give Brady a defense that can hold their own, and he always wins. Crazy.

To be honest, probably not many...you can see from this documentary that Brady's own determination is a big part of his success, even when his coach & the staff didn't believe in him. If a player like Carmazzi (like many others) could get shook to the point that they couldn't perform by the guys who are supposed to be against them, then I don't think they could rally themselves internally to come back from an 18 point deficit at the half. Maybe, but not likely.

Coaches measure the 'right stuff" but when you're dealing with 21 or 22 year-old players, these guys have only been SHAVING for what, four years? Look at Brady's physique at age 40 vs. that kid. I'll tell you this: if I'd had my 37 year old body at age 17, I'd have been my HS's starting power forward. In pro sports you have to pick athletes who mature early. That's not ALWAYS the right pick, but it's the SMART pick.

That O-line of Frisco back then would have destroyed him. If any of the other bad teams of that era-Bengals, Browns, Lions come to mind-he might get them to close to .500, but that is all. You also have to remember that he had a 5 interception game at Michigan. You see combine numbers like that, he is a good college QB and nothing more. There have been too many of those throughout the years.

yeah not the best QB of all time. one of the most fortunate for sure. landed in the best spot he could have dreamed of, and always had the same HC throughout his career. that HC just happens to be the best coach of all time. brady is still top 5 without a doubt, but i cant just crown him best all time. brady also benefited from a WEAK division year after year after year. rings are the goal, but they do not automatically crown you best all time. if that were the case terry bradshaw, who was an abysmal QB most of his years, is the number 2, or 3 QB of all time.
@Darkjediiii
@Darkjediiii 7 жыл бұрын
Disagree. Tom Brady is surrounded by mediocre to good receivers year after year, and yet he elevates them with his play. Look at Brady's statline: superb. Bradshaw, yes, has 3 rings, but has nowhere near the stats that Brady has. We're not just using rings as a metric.
@hankmardukas1424
@hankmardukas1424 7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Eichler 4 rings. And that is what this thread says, 5 rings and the best. I disagree. I say Brady has had the good fortune of the weakest division in football for his career. Basically giving him 6 wins a year. Anyone could have good stats in that division. He also has the best coach of all time, that gives him receivers that compliment Brady. His WR core has always had 3 things. A big body, a shifty guy, and the possession guy. Look who Brady throws to, his RB all damn day long. Again, anyone could have good stats doing that. He doesn't elevate everyone's play, bills game plans does. Brady is the perfect system QB. That system being bills. Brady is crazy accurate I'll give you that. But if he had gone just about anywhere else, his career stats would not be what they are now. But since I can't prove that, I'll give that he is top 5. But he isn't the goat. Just a man blessed with good fortune. Besides, if stats are the measure, then you are admitting that Payton manning is the best QB of all time. He holds every meaningful QB record.

As a diehard Raiders fan, I know we got robbed. But, I have to respect the legend he has made for himself. He has only had a few great WRs, If he had a Rice, Brown, Moss, Smith Sr., Megatron, etc his whole career, he would have more wins and more rings! Dislike him personally, (just as a Raider fan perspective)....he is the GOAT. Belichick shows his knowledge all the time. Shame on them Browns for letting him go.
