Money Trees is one of the best-written tracks on the entire record. The central metaphor is such an inspired flip on the “concrete jungle” motif. It’s not as long as SAMIDOT but it’s a cornerstone cut.

Better Picks Lu, Lu, Ant, Lu, Lu, Ant, Ant Round Notes --------------------- Round One - I picked Lu in this round because I just like more of the songs that he picked. SAMIDOT is clearly the best song on the album however I listen to money trees and maad city far more often and like both of them collectively a little better. BDKMV is a good pick on ant's side but it's just not as strong to me, especially when Lu picks backseat freestyle afterwards. Then he even gets swimming pools. Peer pressure and poetic justice just aren't amazing amazing to me, which I guess might just be a bad take I'm just not the biggest fan. Lu also justified what he picked perfectly, Ant just sort of laughed and sat there and said nothing which yk doesn't change the picks at all but it's kind of annoying. Gotta keep in mind the audience when you're trying to get people to pick your side. I would like to reiterate that this was a very close win and I definitely see why you would pick Ant, I was just feeling the Lu pick here. Round Two - Easily a Lu victory this time. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Bound 2, but the pick is strong because the audience would like it a lot. Letting Lu get New Slaves, On Sight, and Hold My Liquor was kind of a major screw-up to me on Ant's side. Blood on the leaves is a good track But I honestly would've picked Black Skinhead first and then On Sight (on sight is my favorite song off yeezus but black skinhead is more popular in general, so the audience would like it better). Not as much to say about this round, I think it was just a cleaner sweep and honestly I do think Ant could've won in my books if he picked a little differently. In particular, I would've picked hold my liquor over I am a god just because I think Hold My Liquor is a stronger track, but you know I also think Ant had already lost at this point. This round was a whole lot further apart and I do not think you could justify the Ant win. A bit of first-pick advantage at play, though. Round Three - Ant won in the first two picks, honestly could've just picked sky and won against 5 other picks. I also just am not a fan of Carti in general because the beats get a little redundant too quickly for me, but this wasn't even close because sky is the only song I really like on Whole Lotta Red. Ant win by far, first pick definitely at play for me. But also good politics pick with the stop breathing pick. Not a fan of the song myself, but that's what I'm saying when I say you gotta please the audience. Round Four - Kind of a meh album in general, I would go with the Lu pick just because he got jumpman and scholarships. Digital dash is definitely on a lower level compared to scholarships, since scholarships has far, far better production, but idk I think this is honestly a boring album pick. You could feel the mood die a little. I'd be willing to void this pick just because of how boring of a competition it is. Round Five - Another lame ass pick for an album, easily J. Cole's worst. But, I do enjoy the picks from Lu again. Truth in Ibiza is a good pick and Pi has good production and a solid verse. 3001 might be the best song but I think that Lu's top 2 outweigh it pretty handily and crocodile tearz is just a popular one. Stickz and Stonez and Wabbitz are better picks IMO than Pricey and Ready '24, so I think this round pretty solidly falls into Lu's hands. Ant screwed up with crocodile tearz, and just with the first pick in general here. Round Six - I prefer the world is yours compared to NY state of mind. Those are the two most crucial songs. Life's a bitch was a stronger pick than represent, by a decent margin I feel like. One love sort of wins on the third pick, I do agree that represent was a little early. Halftime is a very solid rebuttal and Ant's theme of anthems and just the really solid songs, I liked. I do think I'll go with Ant this time around, though. The world is yours is just one of those songs that I stay up listening to sometimes, it's too good to just pass up on. If I'm going to be 100% frank, though, I don't listen to illmatic all that often. I know that Nas is the best lyricist of all time in hip hop HOWEVER I think that just the sound of the music itself is sacrificed a tiny bit because he focuses so much on the lyrics. Definitely a hot take, I know it is. I am not a fan of Nas's music in general, Is what I'm saying I guess. Forgive me. Ant win. Round Seven - The little debate at the beginning was interesting. Especially considering Ant had already picked stop breathing and he immediately admitted it was a politician pick. Highly hypocritical take from Ant, I didn't like the side he was arguing on here because it seemed like he was disagreeing with Lu for absolutely no reason. They had both employed the same logic at some point, so I don't really understand why the argument even happened. In my opinion, Ant took this round easily. Final Notes ------------------ -The final result came down to my first-round pick, which I'm not too happy with since I was already iffy on that one. Definitely could've gone either way. -Ant argues just to argue and doesn't know when the public is on his side -Lu loses a lot of energy sometimes, makes his picks appear less solid just because he doesn't hype them up -I didn't like some of the album picks from Nick, they seemed a little meh -I am biased towards Lu, I know I am. But public perception IS public perception and I do think that Lu is the better arguer of the two. -Nick is biased towards Ant. Rounds 4 and 5 seemed a little off to me, I think that Lu EASILY won round 5. -There was very little arguing about the picks this time! I would've loved to see more arguing, it's fun to listen to and dissect. This comes from an Argumentative Logic student from Johns Hopkins CTY. These are just my takes. I'm very willing to argue with people about the takes (arguing meaning literally just logical discourse, not the stupid shouting thing like people make it out to be) and would like to hear from anyone and everyone. If you read through the whole thing, god DAMN you must have a lot of time on your hands!

I wouldn't say Lu easily won the Yeezus round. Blood on The Leaves is the best song on the album (imo) followed by New Slaves, Black Skinhead and Hold My Liquor. Im In It also barely beats On Sight for me. Bound 2 is easily the most accessible song on the album but no where near the best when you consider the bangers that I mentioned above. Very very close but Ant wins.
