Marshall Mathers LP - Heath Ledger as The Joker The Blueprint - Robert Downy Jr as Iron Man Both entertaining in their own ways but one is more groundbreaking, more technical, something we'll never see again. That's the best way I can describe why MMLP is better

I LOVE Blueprint, but MMLP is on another level. They're both classic albums, but MMLP is one of the most impactful albums of all time, not just in hip hop, but music as a whole. Its the MMLP's lyrical display that wound up influencing major players today such as Kendrick and Cole.

MMLP. No skips, full of classic tracks, Em's lyricism is at its peak. His humor and edgy bars make it more enjoyable for me.
@worldtree2027

Personally I skipped quite a few tracks after my initial listening review. Some of them are a little too cheesy for my taste in hindsight. I am not a fan of joke style raps and I preferred his more personal/serious cuts. If you don’t find some of those tracks corny I can definitely see why it’s more enjoyable.

@@federatedstateskmt1041 you're on something. Under the Influence (obviously disregarding Bizarre's verse because he's a terrible artist) is fire as fuck. Bitch Please 2 is really fucking good too, Em spits a HARD verse and I really think everyone does well, Snoop coulda done better but whatever. And Drug Ballad? The song is all about being addicted to drugs and needing help off of them, its kind of sad in a way. I would understand slips like Kim, that song is fucked up and some cannot handle it, maybe even Amityville for that, once again, terrible Bizarre verse.

Somebody needs to explain to me the "MMLP lyrics have aged poorly" narrative. That is something I've never heard anyone within HipHop say but it's somehow become a narrative on Twitter etc. People must just be looking for a way to discredit this masterpiece. BTW - both Em and Jay are GOATS, legends and in my top 5 of all time. Got love for both.
@worldtree2027
@worldtree2027 2 жыл бұрын
The production definitely is on some tracks but I don’t know how the lyrics have. I guess you could argue the terminology and style aren’t in line with what we see today for Eminem or other elite artists but that’s pretty much most early 00s rappers. He probably wouldn’t “get away with” the same language but that’s irrelevant to whether the lyrics have aged well. One thing I will say is a lot of the lines on this LP are a little too cheesy or corny for my liking but on the tracks where he’s serious, it’s an all time level performance up there with Jay-Z etc.
@bigtl9500
@bigtl9500 2 жыл бұрын
I mean they have aged pretty badly. Not just Eminem but in general I think anything that relies on shock value ages horribly because all that’s based on the time it was made, and once time moves on it doesn’t hit the same. It just comes off try hard and corny. Still a classic album and super well made it’s just such a product of its time with the shock value and all the constant dated pop culture references and also just a lot of stuff that looks super corny in retrospect, like the constant nsync/Britney spears disses.
@bigtl9500
@bigtl9500 2 жыл бұрын
It’s also an album fueled on hate, which is something Eminem has said. Which unless your in the mood for that it just makes it not fun to go back and listen to. Eminem music just reminds me of when I was an edgy 12 year old and that’s not something I want to be reminded of, regardless of if the music is objectively good or not and I think a lot of people feel that same way.

Ehhh, those Pop star disses/references are only in 2 songs - Marshall Mathers and The Real Slim Shady -so I think some people use that as a crutch for that argument. Anyway definitely a classic album. People are gonna always find reasons to tear down art. I’ve heard people say Illmatic is boring so everyone has their opinions I guess. Can’t be mad at it.

When he dropped The MMLP, the entire world moved. And it was a time in Em's career when he made his ridiculously technical rapping seem so easy by combining genius level lyrical content, story telling, and an almost conversational style delivery that made you almost forget that he was rhyming, let alone spitting such high level intricate and complex rhyme schemes. Then, when you factor in what would be some of the greatest comedy and sarcasm ever heard on hip-hop album, it's icing on the cake. There's no debate.

Artisty: Eminem Jay-Z has great flows and delivery but honestly nothing he says impresses me. His story's and messages are way more interesting on albums like Reasonable Doubt and The Black album, in fact this album just feels like a career victory lap. But Eminems flows and delivery's were on top form and he was in an interesting place in his career. He doubles down on the controversy, goes personal talking about his drug problems, his mother and his girlfriend all while showing immense technical skills. Production: Blueprint Although MMLP has great production, The Blueprint has some of the greatest hip hop beats of all time. All of the beats here are timeless. Impact: MMLP hands down. When it's all said and done this will stand as THE hip hop album of the early 2000s. Here we have the biggest music star of the 21st century with all eyes on him, after he's been blamed for a tragedy that was felt through the whole country and seeing if he backs down. Not only does he double down on his edgyness, he where's his heart on his sleeve, he talks about his struggles with fame, his family and relationships all while being hungry to prove himself as one of the best rappers of all time.

Going with Luca on this for sure, The Marshall Mathers LP a timeless album and every track is unskippable, the production is amazing and have a g-funk flavour from Dre's influences from his previous works on g-funk records, can't see how this'd be a discussion that any of the producers on The Blueprint beat Dr. Dre and Mel-Man, Em's reckless energy and venomous flows flow smoothly and compliment the beats too, the whole album is fun & entertaining to listen to and the concepts of Em's twisted psyche and horrorcore themes is done effortlessly

This is one is tough because clearly MMLPs lyricism and Ems performance outdoes Jays. But the production on the blueprint blows MMLP out the water. If you wanted to show an alien what hip-hop is an the highest most pristine form of it, then show them the blueprint. But if you want a master in artistry and getting deep into the psyche of an artist, I don’t think any album in any genre gets closer to Em on the MMLP. I have to give it to the MMLP, even though I hold the blueprint to a slightly higher degree because sometimes you aren’t always listening for lyrics and the blueprint is the best at just vibing. Great match up regardless Edit: after Ant’s point of the blueprint being Kanye’s genesis I thought if either album were to be taken away from history, I freaked out and immediately thought of having no Kanye and so it’s the blueprint hands down.

Yes Blueprint gave us Kanye but MMLP gave Kanye those guys to look up to him. So had it not been for MMLP Ye would not have those guys lookin up to him.

Both albums are quality first and foremost Personally Em on MMLP is more layered out cinematically sharped very minimalistic on the beats from the base brothers and Dre for Em to deliver the songs and putting his heart onto the tracks. Kill you, Marshall Mathers, The Way I Am, Real slim shady, Criminal. Blueprint is a pretty solid album but overhyped I felt the production overshadowed Some of Jay Performance (Heart in the City, Neva Change, U don’t Know) personally imo if we’re discussing Conceptually, artistic standpoint, Sampling Reasonable doubt is much better He’ll I’ll take Black Album & American Gangster over it.

I take the Blueprint any day however Stan and The Way I Am do make mmlp a competitor. However I think the Blueprint is more relevant and is a better concept. The Blueprint also has much better production that to me holds up a lot better today. The Blueprint has for me stood the test of time much better. I think they’re both classic albums however there’s no debate for me when you look at consistency, longevity, and relevance which to me are the 3 main factors in judging classic albums
@worldtree2027
@worldtree2027 2 жыл бұрын
I’ll try my best to explain why Blueprint is superior while simultaneously giving a quick review of each. The production of an album is very significant, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better combination than Kanye West and Just Blaze at their peak. Their creativity and vision when it came to flipping soul samples was unparalleled for their time and still is the standard even today. While Eminem is a decent producer, he would’ve been better off letting Dre exclusively handle that aspect. There just isn’t as much detail and smoothness to the production on MMLP and as a result a couple of the cuts sound dated, you could absolutely tell it was a track from the early 2000s. A couple of the beats definitely have a “funk” feel to them, but it often doesn’t mesh well with what the track is attempting to accomplish. The transition from track to track isn’t really bad in each of these projects but the overall tone and message of each could’ve been accomplished in less tracks. 13 is a good number for The Blueprint but it definitely didn’t need an hour of runtime. 18 tracks for MMLP is decent but usually you only really need 10-13 to convey what is needed unless it’s a concept album…which this was not. And having a hour and a quarter of runtime is a little too much in most cases, it seems like a bit of filler was added just because which contributes little to nothing to the overall theme. The songwriting peaks are really high on these projects and some of the best writing we’ve ever seen across any genre. Dense material with impeccable incorporation of messages and tone in a pretty creative/versatile manner. However, with MMLP, it’s a little less consistent with the inclusion of “joke” rap songs. They showcase his creativity and versatility but it gets really cheesy and simplistic in songs like ‘Real Slim Shady’. It was very tough for me to take it serious because it’s quite obvious tracks like those were meant for kids even with the parental advisory sticker on the face of the LP. His performance on Stan and The Way I Am definitely saved the project. The Blueprint was sometimes inconsistent when you consider most of the cleverness and creativity is just for more braggadocio lines. Personal cuts like Blueprint (Momma Loves Me), Song Cry, and Never Change are the highlights of the project, and more performances like that would’ve definitely worked. The themes on these projects overall were nothing to write home about, but they did cover key situations they were going through, legally and relationship wise. My biggest gripe with MMLP is the missed opportunity to expound upon what was displayed on Stan. Less comedic tone and more introspective material always makes artists more convincing in their efforts. It’s what made Eminem, Eminem but that didn’t have to be the case. He’s at his best with his heart on his sleeve. A song like Mockingbird or Sing For The Moment on this project would’ve done a lot more than Criminal or The Real Slim Shady. While Jay-Z’s lifestyle and possession lyrics would prove overbearing and overwhelming in most instances, the rich production and slick songwriting really saved the day. There’s nothing corny about Blueprint outside of maybe Izzo, so I guess that’s a highlight too. Overall - The Blueprint is a solid A+ and MMLP is about B+ or A-.
