MMATBS is the only one I listened to non-stop for an entire month and still not get tired of it. Sonically, I loved it from first listen. I still don’t understand how some people aren’t feeling beats like Savior, Count Me Out, Father Time, Die Hard, Silent Hill, Rich Spirit, Mirror, Mr. Morale, United in Grief, N95, Purple Heart. Of course, thematically, subject matter, and tonally the album is constantly giving me new things to discover each time I listen. It’s literally a gift that keeps on giving. Those are things I did not get from the other albums.
@killdeathentertainment88222 жыл бұрын
I feel you on that. But I believe its because this album is his absolute best because Kendrick finally achieved spiritual awakening and every single one of these songs sound way different then any thing back to section.80. I loved it on the first listen for the same reason as you. What people also don’t feel this time around besides the beats is his lyrics and the story he is telling this time. That same gift was also on the other albums when i was finally starting to grow up into an adult i began to discover all these new things in his older albums. From section 80 to Damn. You just gotta listen carefully, i guess it also depends on the sound of the album in general. But all of those songs you named, i listen to very often. In my opinion? This is his absolute best and well this album compared to the ones in the past. This ends on a very positive note and contains very positive messages for each of us because this is how he made it out. How he managed to save himself and he wanted to share this with all of us. But most people don’t get this album unfortunately. They don’t understand it. He finally got the answers he always was looking for and everyone was wondering where he has been. Protecting his soul in the valley of silence for 5 years.

Mr morale and Donda were both very moving and cathartic to me. Songs from Donda like come to life, moon, 24, Jesus Lord, pure souls etc etc were very moving. Mr Morale goes deep into subjects like generational trauma, mental health, toxic masculinity etc etc, and we get a side of Kendrick that really humanizes him in a way that I appreciate. The off season is a dope rap album and it definitely doesn’t have lows like remote or junya, but it doesn’t move me emotionally like Donda or Mr morale. I’m not even gonna talk about CLB that’s just easily the worst of the bunch.

Its funny that he says thier all past thier peak commercially. I would have to totally disagree. I believe Cole has actually got a second wind mainly because he took the Jay z and lil wayne blueprint. He developed a dope young team which had allowed him to continue to build momentum through bodying features. Kendrick/Tde missed a huge opportunity by not pushing the whole black hippie movement way more. They could've really ran rap for a decade. Drake seems to have a sweatshop that works overtime to keep his image relevant. Honestly I've been more impressed with Cole for the start of this decade. With all of their releases now out Cole still has more replay value imo. He has the better team imo and the better talent. Dreamville could really run the 2020s. Besides Yo gotti and cmg. 1. Kendrick Lamar 2. J. Cole 3. Kanye West 4. Drake I love all 4 albums though. CLB and DONDA were both too long. 20+ tracks is too much. If Drake and Ye both trimmed the fat on their albums to about 16 tracks, they would have been way more solid. CLB especially has grown on me so much since it’s release. The Off-Season is a top tier J. Cole album. It’s an easy album to like because it’s literally just Cole showcasing his rapping skills, rather than pushing a concept throughout the album. Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is my favourite out of the 4 because Kendrick always re-invents himself with every release and he did it again with this one. Kendrick albums have never been easy listens because he pushes the listener to dig deep and really LISTEN. It makes his music so interesting. I thought TPAB didn’t have replay value when it came out, and now it’s one of my favourite albums of all time to this day. Their is always something to gain from a Kendrick project and that’s what keeps them alive for years and years to come and I see no difference with Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Putting my 2 cents here. Personally I'd go: 1 - Donda 2 - Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers 3 - Off Season 4 - CLB CLB is a bit bloated and feels very safe overall. Has a couple of bangers but in general I don't revisit very often. It's a quintessential modern Drake album, and cool to vibe to, but doesn't push beyond anything further. The next top 3 though feel tougher to rank for me. J Cole gives a stellar performance rap wise in the Off Season. He sounds hungry to prove something even though he's sitting amongst the top in the genre. I like the beats and enjoy the story telling overall here. As for Kendrick, he gives possibly his most personal and vulnerable album here, and dives deeper into many cultural issues that are prevalent in todays society. As a result it's a bit polarizing upon initial release. I think it's an album that sits well in Kendricks discography, and although there aren't a ton of bangers on here, the themes highlighted here are what bring it up. Finally for Donda, I just think the sheer versatility in this album is what elevates it. It's not a perfect album, as there are a few tracks I can definitely cut, and the pt 2s don't do much for me. But the highs are extremely high here, and out of all the albums this is the project I come back to the most.

For me, as much as I love J Cole and the Offseason, this is mostly between Mr Morale and Donda. I agree with Lu that obviously CLB is last in my opinion, as its just not close to the other albums sound wise. J Cole delivered and showed he still has it and can put out consistent bangers, but I think Mr Morale and Donda were more complete albums, as I feel that Cole has 2014 FHD and 4YEO to hold above this album. For me, I still can't decide between the last two. I think I still need a little bit more time with Kendrick's album to properly rank it, and for me after the time spent with Donda, I think Donda is my favorite currently by maybe one or two songs. However, I think Kendrick's album will overtake it for me eventually, as there are so many good songs throughout the album. I just think currently, songs like Come to Life, Moon, off the grid, and Life of the Party are some of Kanye's best songs in years, if not all time, so I would put Donda number one, also because of the massive cultural impact it had for me dropping at the beginning of my freshman year of college. 4. Drake- Certified Lover Boy Do I really have to explain why this album is bad? Commercial bullshit from Drake, and there were like two decent songs 3/10 3. J. Cole- Off-Season Incredible flows, beats, and lyrics on this banger-filled project gives this the greatest replay value out of the four. 8/10 2. Kanye West- Donda This album was a crazy good blend of bangers and conscious tracks, and it really shapes Kanye as an artist. 8/10 1. Kendrick Lamar- Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers The most emotional and personal record out of the four projects, every song is unique AND this was a no-skip project. 2022 is only halfway over, but this may be the album of the year. 9/10

IMO it goes 1. MM&TBS 2. Off-Season 3. Donda 4. CLB I would put Donda higher but the problem is the 27 song tracklist making the album way too bloated while still being good theres def a buncha misses. The problem with Off-season is that although its a great emcee performance theres no thematic tissue connecting the tracks. With that said i think the Off-Season had great emcee performances with technical rapping I think MM&TBS beats it in storeytelling by miles & in that sense I think MM&TBS is the best lyrical rap album in years. MM&TBS def the most complete. Drakes album is just way too formulaic, overhated & has a buncha great songs, but its getting repetitive.

@mr pussy slayer 235 faggot Personally, CLB was the worst record. Shit replay value, too many tracks, boring production, and overall terrible lyrics. Off-Season definitely deserves the third spot because it showcases J. Cole’s rapping skills and has several bangers. Donda deserves number two for its blend of creativity and bangers. Mr. Morale gets number one because of the insane storytelling and production, and it’s a whole-ass vibe.

I think Mr. Morale is easily the best written and deepest of them, it really has so much content wise and is the best of the in terms of content and topic coverage. The off-season is easily the best rapping and will go down as a classic in terms of J Cole non stop giving some of the best rapping. But donda is just so diverse and has so many different aspects of the other albums, maybe not to the same extent, it has the deep writing about his life and mother, and some good rapping, but it really separates itself in that Kanye is really a conductor and is able to bring together so many different sounds and artists of the time like no one else can while also innovating music … I think the off season and Mr Morale both are fantastic in the fields that Cole and kendrick always excel in, but Donda is really the one setting up the decade in terms of sound and rapping. It’s not an insult or a knock at all, and not true for all songs on the albums, but kendrick and Cole are honestly the best at what they do in terms of writing and rapping respectively that kanye is able to thrive in the gap of not being the best at either but being the best at putting together an overall sound, which often is what thrives long past the release and influences future music. But yeah CLB is definitely the worst.

my ranking would be: 1. the off-season: most consistent, top tier bars, flows and delivery from cole; it'll go down as a classic mixtape and another gem in cole's discography... cannot wait for what he has in store for the fall off. 8.5/10 2. donda: i believe that its highs (tracks like come to life, moon, lord i need you) are higher than the other albums. the only issue is the run time, alongside the decent amount of filler, alongside the really, really cringy lows. take those out and you have a top 3 album in kanye's discography. 8.2/10 3. mr. morale and the big steppers: kendrick's most personal. you can feel his emotion and vulnerability; he goes over important topics over some great production. lots of variety, but not too much to seem heavily mainstream. solid project all-around, better than DAMN. 8/10 4. certified lover boy: drake, as always, comes through with the hits, but when it doesn't hit? big misses. i took away a couple tracks from it, but there's a shit ton of filler. haven't gone through it from top to bottom since the week it dropped, pretty forgettable to be honest. 4.7/10
